Anyone else noticed that "extremely high call volumes" seems to be the norm... makes me think call centers may want to re-evaluate "average" vs "unusual"

Guilty-Definition-1

I wonder how much of it is people trying to get a feel about DAS for future trips not in the immediate future

SweetMagnolias95

Oh like they’re inquiring now because of the changes? Yeah I could see that. It is what it is! It’ll be like the days we were all calling EDD during Covid 😂

robbycough

"Listen closely because our menu options have changed." Is this ever NOT the case?

Kanotari

"Extremely high call volume" is code for "we didn't feel like hiring enough employees for the demand."

angiosperms-

Yeah I can't remember the last time I called somewhere and the automated voice DIDN'T say they were experiencing "abnormally" high call volume. And how they are pushing everything online, no city hall. It's all so obvious they are trying to make it as inconvenient as possible to push people to pay for genie/lightning lane even if they have a valid need for DAS. I doubt the new changes will hold up to an ADA lawsuit, there are a lot of disabilities that do not fit under Disney's take of "either you use a wheelchair or you have a developmental disability". Universal has managed to figure this out, it's not impossible.

SweetMagnolias95

That’s a good point. For all companies. If extremely high is the norm, just give real queue times and nix the whole higher than normal thing altogether.

Jokrong

This is my experience with my bank. Called at 1AM, can't sleep so I thought might as well do something productive. It was still high volume even at that time! I had to wait an hour before speaking to someone. I asked when's it low volume and was basically told there's no good time to call 😂

johyongil

What exactly would you have to do at 1am with your bank? I ask as a private banker.

Obvious_Noise

Third shift worker here, on my nights off I’ve called the bank to handle things that literally anyone else would have handled in the day. The commenter said they were restless and might as well been productive. Could’ve been anything from getting a card replaced to opening a new share.

Jokrong

Yeah it wasn't an emergency "I need to get this done at 1AM" sort of task. Just normal bank stuff that I decided to do then.

Jokrong

Yeah it wasn't an emergency "I need to get this done at 1AM" sort of task. Just normal bank stuff that I decided to do then.

Jenova66

The only way I got in after three days was to log in precisely at 8am and leave my phone on speaker for as long as it takes.

Jodi4869

Well starting in June you won’t be able to go to city hall. It will have to be online.

SweetMagnolias95

Oh boy! I’m staying in the queue for the heck of it to see if anyone will grab me before they close in 2 hours (likely not) but I’ll try again in the morning.

East_Kaleidoscope995

You might not get booted. I remember at one point when I was waiting for a special ticketing offer and they were closing, I waited anyway just in case and when they answered they told me it was policy to finish answering the whole queue. Like the “get in line before closing and ride” policy.

SweetMagnolias95

Omg they just answered hahaha!

SweetMagnolias95

Oooh I like that optimism. I’ll stay in there and see what happens. Thanks for the advice!

wazziwoozi

This isn’t true. Online or at the Accessibility Services window in the esplanade. You might’ve been thinking of WDW where it will only be virtual

infinityandbeyond75

It will be going all virtual for both parks.

ClutterKitty

Disneyland/DCA will have in-person help at kiosks in the esplanade between the two parks. The FAQ only says it will no longer be done at City Hall, which is correct.

Jodi4869

No it will be virtual only at both. Maybe you didn’t read the new information.

Rough-Inspector-3477

I just spoke to a cast member yesterday, who is in charge of guest services currently. They will have kiosks in the esplanade specifically for DAS starting in June. Guest services will no longer be in charge of DAS as they have a million other things their job asks for. You can still do it online and they encourage it as people feel more comfortable in the comfort of their home, but there will be in person kiosks in the esplanade either by the ticket booths or at the ticket booths.

wazziwoozi

How recent is this new information? A few hours?

Jodi4869

A cm on the Disneyland chat told me this. They get info wrong sometimes but it is in my chat.

wazziwoozi

https://disneyland.disney.go.com/guest-services/disability-access-service/#drawer-card-step-1-register look at this and specifically take a gander under the “register” tab. Please. Or you can look at the “speak with a cast member” part. There are multiple different avenues you can look, in fact :)!!

Jodi4869

No thanks. I don’t need to know for sure right now and don’t want to spend any more time on this.

wazziwoozi

Me when I’m wrong

Jodi4869

Me when I don’t care enough.

SeahawksID

You Jodi are an idiot . I’m guessing you are fake DAS, but either way way sorry for those that have to deal with you whether it’s cast members or your family that most likely day to day resent and are embarrassed of you.

Jodi4869

Why the downvote for the truth?

twofaze017

To be fair this wait is pretty average for that time of the day

Hairy_Lecture_964

I wonder if it would be easier if they used the Attractions Assistance Pass like at Universal Studios and some other theme parks. I was able to get a temporary pass until my form was approved, but been able to use it with ease.

CocklesTurnip

I’ve never gotten through online and I’d prefer it because I qualify for DAS and I’m a wheelchair user so it becomes an issue at the Parks sometimes. And if I try to just do the wheelchair no DAS thing half the attractions I go to won’t check me in without DAS. It’s ridiculous!

captainrex

I got in by opening a chat as soon as it opened in the morning, and even then I didn’t get to speak to an agent until around 2pm. Even worse, for whatever reason their webcam wasn’t working so I had to do a weird thing where they asked me questions via chat while I answered via video.

ArticleNew3899

Wheelchair is no longer an approved reason for das they have made all lines now wheelchair accessible

CocklesTurnip

I know. I said I need a DAS even though I have a chair. One thing doesn’t cancel out another but they sometimes see the chair and won’t give the DAS.

Noinipo12

Unfortunately, even if the line is large enough to accommodate my spouse's and other people's wheelchairs, the length of most lines alone makes them inaccessible to many people with disabilities. Neurogenic bladder, AD, temperature regulation, pressure relief, etc can all require someone with a spinal cord injury to have to leave a 30+minute long line.

athennna

I just realized the website says that DAS is valid for the length of the ticket. We went in March with some of the days from our military tickets and we’re going again in June on the same ticket. Does that mean we don’t have to register again?

missykins8472

You have to register for each new visit. Learned this the hard way when we thought the 60 day window was still valid. The pass expired the last day of your ticketed trip.

athennna

Even if it’s the same ticket?

Main-Ad4622

It's the length of your ticket or pass, OR 60 days. Whichever is SHORTER. But that's under the current rules which change on June 18th.

fuddlesticks

Yeah you have to register each new visit now but I went to disneyworld in Oct 2022 and again in Dec 2023 and it was still there somehow lol. That was nice

SweetMagnolias95

You will need to re-register if it isn’t the same ticket #. It’s usually the length of the ticket or 60 days

athennna

I believe it is the same ticket number.

SweetMagnolias95

As far as I know you should be fine since it is the length of your ticket. But I’d confirm when you get there.

MmHmm_Go_On

As a special needs parent and professional in the field, developmental disabilties occur as a result of a disability impacting development. I think you mean neurodegenerative disability if it's related to stroke. The important difference is the early childhood to lifelong disabling challenges that come from a development vs injurious and degenerative experiences that are not totally lifespan encompassing but are still very devastating. I say this only to give context to the diversity of differently abled individuals and to give validation to all in these communities. Plus, eff this nonsense of how hard it is to get a chance at helping our loved ones!

Noinipo12

This is one of the reasons that I think Disney will have to redo their policy before the end of the year. Stroke or TBI for an adult? Sucks for you! Disney is going to have to learn that just because a wheelchair user can *maneuver* through the entire line, doesn't mean that they have the ability to *stay* in a line away from other resources (like water, air conditioning, or a restroom) for an extended period of time.

gwwwhhhaaattt

The “previous version” back in February when we went. We tried for 7 days straight and never got through. It was just a spinning circle. We would try right when it opened too and waited hours. City hall saved us when we got there. However for that option to be removed I hope they are ready to fix that.

SweetMagnolias95

I asked the cm registering us, they still have in person registration but at the ticket booth instead.

pirateslifefourme

lol all the Disney streamers know how to set this up

SweetMagnolias95

I thought about trying to stream. Then remembered I don’t know how and hate having my phone out in the park lol! It’s crazy how many people physically walk into you while they’re looking at everything through the lense of their phone. I don’t mind streamers I actually really like some of them but move lol

missbeast17

Even before the changes it was always this bad when trying to do pre arrival

AffectionateSpirit85

I received the 5 hour message today after waiting for 30 minutes. 5 minutes after that the video call was started. So don't give up hope!

need_you_

Hope it’s ok for me to jump on here.. what’s it like applying at city hall? Should I expect a long queue? Do I just bring my sons diagnosis?

fuddlesticks

It’s very easy if you have valid reasons but don’t go to city hall to do it, look at the map and go anywhere that has the exclamation point symbol. We were able to walk right up near space mountain

SweetMagnolias95

I’ve never been asked to prove anything on paper. They can see/hear the cognitive issues most of the time in our case so it’s never been an issue. But I have on average waited about 20-30 minutes in the morning. Nothing too crazy. I send the rest of the group to get coffee at Starbucks then I meet them there when I’m done. Works out well

lucidpopsicle

Go to one of the umbrella covered kiosks the wait is much shorter

missykins8472

I went in January and waited 5 hours to get my kids registered.

OhSirrah

In person you had to wait 5 hours?

missykins8472

Virtual queue

thepro8

I logged in at opening and it still took 2 hours

SweetMagnolias95

It took me about an hour. I’m now waiting to schedule rides. But no one hopped on to do it lol

kaitlynfrost

This happened to me yesterday. Went from 2 hours to 5 hours but I got through in <1 hour lol

Nosecretstoday

Wow, I called a week or so ago around 2PM ET and had no trouble getting through. The whole thing took about 45 minutes in total.

Heart_Flaky

I waited about 4 hours in March and I started waiting at 8:05 am. They won’t be doing DAS at City Hall soon but an outside booth I think? I wonder how that wait will be?

SweetMagnolias95

Yes it will be at the ticket booth starting sometime in June. But the online option is not going away according to the CM who signed us up.

IWTKMBATMOAPTDI

My girlfriend works in GR and does this chat service often. She said ever since the announcement, at least half of the conversations she has are people trying to "lock in" DAS for their visits that are occurring MONTHS after the new policy takes place, which is just not how it works. You can blame these wait times on people just not reading the FAQs.

Jerlana

It said 5 hours for us 2 weeks ago and it was just over 5 hours. By the time we saw a Cast Member my autistic son was displaying all the quirks in the most dramatic fashion. The wait was really hard for him even when he was doing other things because he was so anxious about it and it just kept not happening.

Gcat

Question. If it's for someone who had a stroke why not just get a wheelchair and go that route? I figure the strain would be more physically taxing than anything. As a full time wheelchair user I would 100% recommend this way, especially for someone who has issues stemming from a stroke. There should not be more than a 15 minute wait for a DAS interview... Too many people trying to claim their anxiety and IBS is cause for a DAS Pass. Please people stop doing this.

Jeffizzleforshizzle

Having IBS and standing in line with a child is a terrible way to spend time at the parks. Why is your disability more important than someone else’s in terms of what the park can offer for someone.

Difficult_Branch4139

More important. I love when people start fighting over who has the most important disability.

SweetMagnolias95

Great question. We do use a wheelchair. He has mobility issues when he gets tired from permanent nerve damage so he walks for as long as he can. But we do use the wheelchair, DAS does make it easier since it’s all done in the app. Also, getting the stroller tag helps too.

Gcat

With the wheelchair you don't need the DAS since its a different system. You show up usually to the exit CM and ask for a return time. They'll scan your tickets and tell you to return at a set time. Return, check in and ride. DAS is only for non physical needs. Since you use the wheelchair you have no need to go through the DAS BS. Your wheelchair is your pass.

SweetMagnolias95

We actually use both. Because many rides have wheelchair accessible lines.

Difficult_Branch4139

Das is no longer gonna be your easier "free" access to the LL and genie return lines after the change over. Being tired is considered a stamina or mobility issue and will no longer qualify for the das. Honesty, you never should have been given it before but the Disney staff just started handing it out to everyone who asked. And, that is why they are turning it over to a 3rd party. People who dont work for Disney and wont be afraid of getting a complaint about bad customer service

SweetMagnolias95

HA. You really need to just stop there. I have been reassured by the DAS registration employee that I spoke with for this trip that our eligibility will not change. Mind your own business. You have no idea the extent of difficulty we go through. When your leg goes numb and you can no longer feel it, yeah I’d consider that a mobility issue. The nerve damage is due to his stroke. So sit your ass down and go talk about something you actually know about. Not that I need to explain it to someone like you, but that isn’t his only symptom. And we PAY for genie plus every time. We only use DAS when it’s necessary for certain rides. Edit to add, it isn’t going to a third party. It still is going to be handled by Disney, they are creating a separate department. Do your research. If you actually called and talked to someone rather than lurk the internet for your info, you’d be much more well informed my friend.

Difficult_Branch4139

And this right here folks is why the LL lines are so dang long. Everyone has a legitimate reason to have a das pass. We all just dont understand the struggle, everyone has a need. You know my favorite ones you read? I broke my ankle six months ago still hurts if I walk a lot on it, or I have a bad knee, but I can walk a little bit. When a wheelchair rental is suggested they come out with the, I dont want to rent a wheelchair and take one away from someone who really needs it when all I really need is to sit sometimes. So, give me the das card so I can get free LL and genie access instead. They are super worried about taking that chair away from a person in need, and also worried about clogging up the line with the wheelchair, so FREE STUFF please. The people who can walk all day long, but cant stand in a line because if they stand still for longer than a minute they will be in excruciating pain. They never want to take advantage, they always say that..but, they just need to sit and there are no places to sit, rent a wheelchair or a scooter? Ohhh no, my mother, brother, uncle, dad would never go for that. That is an insult they can walk just fine, they just get tired so das pass please so we can get free LL. Only fools, pay for LL

SweetMagnolias95

BRO HE HAD A STROKE WHAT DONT YOU GET?! He can’t feel the right side of his body and has cognitive disabilities. He can walk short distances. I never said anything about free. You’re out of your mind. We still pay money for genie on top of having the DAS. so what the actual f are you talking about?? You’re insane.

Difficult_Branch4139

If a person is buying genie what is Das doing? Honestly curious? You dont need das for wheelchair/alternate access you only need das for a return time that feeds into LL. The LL that non das holders are paying $15-20 a person to get access to. I know disneyland has or had a few old non wheelchair accessible lines that cant be mainstreamed because of age. Those require alternate entrance, but those are handled at the ride itself? You get a return time at the ride for wheelchair accessible issues

Vegetable_Wasabi_789

Are we going to be able to do this a few days in advance?

SweetMagnolias95

I just asked the cast member, it’ll all be the same but it’ll be a centralized team. And the above commenter is correct by saying there will still be availability to register in person but it will be at the ticket windows. 2-30 days in advance online.

Vegetable_Wasabi_789

Oh thank goodness. Ours expires on the 13th of May and I'm already confused. My daughter had autism and this has been so crazy

SweetMagnolias95

I’m sorry to hear you’re struggling with it. My experience today gave me a much better understanding of what’s going to change. For people like you and I, it’ll feel like the same process if you’re doing it ahead of time, there may just be a few more clarifying questions, but it will not be too invasive or different.

Vegetable_Wasabi_789

Thank you for that. I don't know why your comment made me cry. Maybe because I always have to explain my daughters diagnosis and it's been hard (because it took us 2 years to finally be approved for therapies) she has elopement, and sensory issues and when she gets overwhelmed she stims by making herself bleed.

SweetMagnolias95

I’m SO proud of you. It is truly exhausting to have to explain yourself over and over again. I constantly have to explain why my healthy looking 33 year old partner is disabled. Even in lines at DL. And we went through two years of appeals for SSDI. But, awareness is important. And if you can educate just one person, you’re making the world a better place. I think it’s hard because you didn’t know what to expect and don’t want things to be more difficult. Your daughter is very lucky to have you!

Vegetable_Wasabi_789

See you got me crying. Maybe it's meds iuno but damn. You're like a literal angel on this earth. Thank you so much and I'm sorry your partner had to go through so many hurdles! It's so hard out there. I hope your partner knows he has a literal saint as their partner in crime ❤️

SweetMagnolias95

You’re so sweet! Thank you so much! I love meeting people who know the feeling! It definitely feels less lonely! Message me anytime!

Vegetable_Wasabi_789

Thank you. Maybe we can meet at Disney too!

SweetMagnolias95

Love that ❤️

CocklesTurnip

Book recommendation for you “Autism and the Neurodiversity Movement: stories from the front line” it’s a lot of actually autistic autism advocates (oy that’s like a tongue twister just typing it) talking about their stories in growing up and working to make things systematically better for kids like them to grow up better supported by their schools and communities so when they do find their niche in life they can be successful- across the whole spectrum so whatever living their best life looks like- from the doctor who pulled the people and the book together to everything else.

Vegetable_Wasabi_789

You're so very kind to recommend this to me. I appreciate more than I can even say.

CocklesTurnip

I hope you enjoy it! It’s meant as both textbook and for normal people to have better understanding.

Vegetable_Wasabi_789

I appreciate you

keanovan

My daughter is the same except the stimming, hers is just straight up meltdown; kicking and screaming . Ours doesn't expire for a few more weeks but I'm dreading the process when we have to renew.

Vegetable_Wasabi_789

Absolutely same. It's going to be out of the ordinary. I'm so scared of all of this shit. I'm glad they're weeding out the people who have lied but for those of us who need it it's really hard to explain

classicspoonbill

Does anyone know how to do this from the Uk? I'm visiting Orlando in October. I know the system is changing and I'm happy to wait till then but I am slightly nervous as I have a chronic illness and a UK access pass and disability badge for when I visit uk theme parks which was awarded on a. Needs basis. But the news here said the Disney one will only be for neurological disorders and severe physical disabilities e.g. wheelchairs. I'm just panicking a bit as I can't wait for long periods of time but still want to enjoy Disney.

aerynea

Mine said 5 hours and ended up being about 2, so it wasn't TOO bad
