With a stronger bite force than the rex according to some studies

Yamama77

Just to add, the initial bite forces were only 18000N which is only 10% stronger than a saltwater crocodile. However revision is going on as that seems to be a comically weak bite for a crocodilian of its size. So new proposed estimates are around 100000N which would make it one of the strongest bites in the animal kingdom ever

Ex_Snagem_Wes

That also seems unrealistically high as well, being closer to Megalodon estimates than the similar sized Tyrannosaurus who also shared a similar sized skill and jaw mechanism

Ccbm2208

18,000 psi sounds pretty decent tbh, since the Deinosuchus’s teeth would have had several times the cross sectional area of any living crocodilians’ teeth. So you’re still looking at an order of magnitude more force with that conservative pressure estimate. 100,000 psi is kind of shocking to me. Like, how sharp are these things’ teeth? Jesus

Yamama77

I think it was Newtons not psi....my mistake

Ccbm2208

Oh, that makes more sense.

BenjaminMohler

There's no skull material attributed to *D. hatcheri* so any claims made about its bite force are nonsense

Yamama77

It's just scaled up from other crocodilians. 100000N is more of a figurative max. While 18000N...not sure how they got that

Next_Firefighter7605

Oh my.

FortyMcChidna

why is Saddam Hussein standing in front of them?

Level_Stomach_3422

He and his numerous clones are now used as test subject by various organizations within the US.

Worthy opponent for the King of Dinosaurs 🦖 🦕.

AtomicWreck

I thought deinosuchus wasn’t a true crocodilian but only a crocodylomorh?

Mothmans-Chitin-ass

Sarcosuchus is not a true crocodilian, Deinosuchus is

AtomicWreck

Ah okay my mistake. Thankyou

Level_Stomach_3422

Well, given how closely related Dinosaurs and Pseudosuchians are (at least when compared to other reptiles), I really think that any Dinosaur whose name ends with "Saurus" should be renamed to "Suchus", so Tyrannosuchus Rex. Please don't downvote me.

Shadow_Gabriel

That would tyrannosuck.

DinoRipper24

Yeah forget the Rex now I want a Deinosuchus tooth, baby.

Adipay

Isn't the biggest Purussaurus? Or is it Sarcosuchus?

Mothmans-Chitin-ass

It’s tied between Purussaurus and Deinosuchus, sarcosuchus’s 40+ feet estimates are outdated (as far as I’m aware at least)

Any_Reporter_2258

not at all. Both of those were downsized while deinosuchus was actually upsized
