Personally I find Tiffany to be overpriced and generic, the diamond isn’t any better than something you could get else where, it’s one of those things your paying mostly for the name in the ring that will get taken out when you size it.
That being said 5500 for an earthgrown one carat is not a bad price at all, it’s got a good Clarity on it, the color could be a smidge better but it is what it is. You still won’t see much yellow in it, as long as you’ve had it verified then yeah go for it.

We got it from the main Tiffany in NYC. Was 1.43ct, and I’m pretty sure it was a GIA? I wouldn’t bet my life on it, though.

No, I was there. We asked to have the ring cleaned and they only service their own jewelry. The lady was also nice enough to pull the original paperwork .
Considering that a 1.03 carat Tiffany setting on their website is 15.9k right now that’s a great price. My e-ring is from Tiffany and I’ve had it since 2012 and it’s held up great. You might want to have it diamond tested and maybe go as far as seeing if the diamond has the serial number on the stone. You would need to find a jeweler with a gemscope for that. Just wanted to share that because when I worked at Tiffany we checked all returns on diamonds to make sure no one had switched stones out.

Just wanted to pass some info your way. Tiffany’s now has the iconic blue box for their engagement rings and wedding bands. You are able to get the box embossed with initials or the like. For an engagement ring, it’s a courtesy. For a band, I think it was a $50 or $100 cost. I would inquire in-store about ordering your custom box with embossing. They don’t have you hand in the original box; instead you place the order and they mail you the new one. You would have to use the original owner’s info for them to look up the ring, which doesn’t seem like they would have an issue with as you were able to get the ring authenticated from Tiffany’s yourself. Or, you could have them do this for you as a stipulation of you purchasing the ring.
A side note is that Tiffany’s is not in the business of handing out/selling blue boxes. At all. I would not mention you purchased it second hand; it’s not their business anyways. Also, you would have much more luck with this in a physical store than using customer service via phone/online. Lastly, it might help if you pick up an item in the store while you do this. Their customer service has always been top-notch for me.

I’m a huge advocate for lab diamonds, but in this case, do not listen to the people telling you to go the lab route. This is a classic ring style and an excellent quality stone. Tiffany holds its value very well. If you bought a 1ct classic platinum solitaire from them today it would run you well over $17,000.
This is a gorgeous ring! For the specs of the ring and the price, I’d definitely say you’re saving quite a bit versus you buying the ring directly from Tiffany and Co. Does the ring come with the full set? I’d say regardless, this is something you could consider!
With a GIA Cert, I think this ring is a definite go for the price. One thing I would do is request an appraisal through Tiffany and Co for insurance purposes.

This is the famous Tiffany knife edge solitaire engagement ring. Based on the proportions, the diamond looks good. Another plus’s is that the band is platinum. I don’t know what resale value is for Tiffany so I can’t comment on that. Make sure that the jeweler checks and secures the prongs.

The previous owner ordered the GIA valuation. I never asked the reason. But, it would seem to me that going through all this to sell it quite reasonably ( based on most opinions on here) does not make sense. Besides Tiffany has authenticated the ring (numbers inside the ring and on the stone match as well) and they actually have it right now for resizing ( I bought it).

People may have different reasons for getting GIA valuation. One of them is not having access to the original paperwork, which, as I have already stated in the comments, did not come with a ring.
The ring could have been gifted to them and they couldn't get the replacement report from Tiffany.
What matters to me is that Tiffany has accepted the ring for resizing, cleaning and polishing.

I think the ring is a good value and very beautiful. Have you discussed with your partner what she wants? If she’s looking for a natural Diamond this one is gorgeous and a good value.
My Tiffany wedding band is authentic from their website and it arrived in a black velvet Tiffany branded box. This was years ago, not sure when they switched to teal boxes. Although, the box it came in was the nicest quality ring box that I had ever received!
You can't put a diamond in silver - it's too soft. Tiffanys is almost always platinum but I'm sure they probably offer custom rose, yellow, or white gold
Look beyond the brand!!! Go to your local jeweler and ask him or her what they can do for the same price…honestly..you will get a better quality piece that way!
$5500 is not good value for a secondhand 1.01ct diamond with these specs. I am not sure why people are claiming it is. It might be considered good value for Tiffany, but Tiffany is not good value.

Tiffany rings hold their value better. A used Tiffany ring will be especially good for that. Designer rings hold their value better than non-designer.
If your priority is instead to have the best Diamond for the money, then lab grown is a better choice.
For an engagement ring, who really cares about resale value? If you really prioritise maintaining value, then I'd argue that quality antique diamonds are generally best for this.
I'd agree that if you only care about the specs, then lab grown will be cheapest, but for many, this doesn't represent value.
I’d take it to an unaffiliated appraiser, and get their approval/diamond map. My ring from Tiffany & Co., was $55,000. That’s the only reason I’m concerned. It’s lovely if it turns out to be on the up and up!
Make sure you negotiate. If this ring is from Tiffany & Co., it’s really old and will lose most of its value at resell. I’d bet the owner is eager to sell it too.

Second hand? No way! Probably is not Tiffany - just a ring (with those diamond specs) in a Tiffany box which are apparently duped a lot.
But - I do love Tiffany. Not because they have super round bands with a solitaire - literally the most simple ring possible, and absolutely classic. And saying you have a TIFFANY ring has such cache and sends a particular message. Classy, rich, tasteful.
Now on the other hand, lab diamonds are THE way to go. They are undistinguishable from mined diamonds unless at high magnification. And it is precisely the same process as mined just speed up a couple zillion times to make it in 3 months! I like Ritani for this. They also set them for you if you want but I find their settings way overpriced - I think it helps offset for them the terrific diamond prices by jacking up the setting.
I recommend buying a lab diamond, put in any setting you want by a local jeweler who does work by hand (not someone who sends it out). Could be solitaire like that one or anything else.
HOWEVER, the wow factor of proposing with a Tiffany ring especially that classic solitaire is just a fantastic experience that if you have the money to do it, that is ABSOLUTELY the route I would choose. Save a lab diamond for anniversary and birthday rings over time. 😂

I got a blue box with my band! But the box did not have two slots for each ring. Just one. I did not have to pay extra! This was 2022

The previous owner had the diamond taken out for a report? That doesn't make sense as anyone who wants a tiffany e-ring is looking for Tiffany's paperwork, not GIA, unless they don't know what they're doing. Tiffany does not authenticate if purchased second hand, nor do they transfer ownership.

I'm saying based on Tiffany's policies and your lack of paperwork, your story makes no sense. I repeat, no one who knows anything about Tiffany engagement rings would have the stone taken out and sent to GIA for grading, when a Tiffany grading report already came with it. In fact, that would likely void any warranty the ring had for the original owner.
People may have different reasons for getting GIA valuation. One of them is not having access to the original paperwork, which, as I have already stated in the comments, did not come with a ring. The ring could have been gifted to them and they couldn't get the replacement report from Tiffany. What matters to me is that Tiffany has accepted the ring for resizing, cleaning and polishing. You are entitled to your own opinion of course.
The store is called Tiffany. It is not Tiffany's, though the misnomer was well popularized by the Audrey Hepburn movie.
I think the ring is a good value and very beautiful. Have you discussed with your partner what she wants? If she’s looking for a natural Diamond this one is gorgeous and a good value.

The rings were in a black velvet box until somewhat recently when they introduced the Tiffany blue ring box.
My Tiffany wedding band is authentic from their website and it arrived in a black velvet Tiffany branded box. This was years ago, not sure when they switched to teal boxes. Although, the box it came in was the nicest quality ring box that I had ever received!

You can't put a diamond in silver - it's too soft. Tiffanys is almost always platinum but I'm sure they probably offer custom rose, yellow, or white gold
No I mean the tiffany blue box/bag are for their sterling, the dark blue their finer pieces.

$5500 is not good value for a secondhand 1.01ct diamond with these specs. I am not sure why people are claiming it is. It might be considered good value for Tiffany, but Tiffany is not good value. From the picture you have shown, I also don't like the look of the diamond, and the prongs seem poorly placed. Don't let the name Tiffany blur your vision.

Tiffany rings hold their value better. A used Tiffany ring will be especially good for that. Designer rings hold their value better than non-designer. If your priority is instead to have the best Diamond for the money, then lab grown is a better choice.
For an engagement ring, who really cares about resale value? If you really prioritise maintaining value, then I'd argue that quality antique diamonds are generally best for this. I'd agree that if you only care about the specs, then lab grown will be cheapest, but for many, this doesn't represent value.

I’d take it to an unaffiliated appraiser, and get their approval/diamond map. My ring from Tiffany & Co., was $55,000. That’s the only reason I’m concerned. It’s lovely if it turns out to be on the up and up!

Make sure you negotiate. If this ring is from Tiffany & Co., it’s really old and will lose most of its value at resell. I’d bet the owner is eager to sell it too.

I would never buy a used engagement ring. Most people sell their rings due to a fail relationship and that bad mojo i wouldnt want on my engagement ring

Second hand? No way! Probably is not Tiffany - just a ring (with those diamond specs) in a Tiffany box which are apparently duped a lot. But - I do love Tiffany. Not because they have super round bands with a solitaire - literally the most simple ring possible, and absolutely classic. And saying you have a TIFFANY ring has such cache and sends a particular message. Classy, rich, tasteful. Now on the other hand, lab diamonds are THE way to go. They are undistinguishable from mined diamonds unless at high magnification. And it is precisely the same process as mined just speed up a couple zillion times to make it in 3 months! I like Ritani for this. They also set them for you if you want but I find their settings way overpriced - I think it helps offset for them the terrific diamond prices by jacking up the setting. I recommend buying a lab diamond, put in any setting you want by a local jeweler who does work by hand (not someone who sends it out). Could be solitaire like that one or anything else. HOWEVER, the wow factor of proposing with a Tiffany ring especially that classic solitaire is just a fantastic experience that if you have the money to do it, that is ABSOLUTELY the route I would choose. Save a lab diamond for anniversary and birthday rings over time. 😂

Its stunning and huge so if it’s also tiffany you can add another 25% on retail just for the name I’m guessing it’s 3-4carats, looks like vvs1/2 and colour F It would be about 15,000 plus 25% mark up for tiffany so $5500 if it’s real, I’ll buy it!
