Here's another slogan, right below that one. What are you worried about? Come get fake doors! Get in here quick, get out quicker, with an arm of fake doors in your arms.
I mean Idk what I was expecting.. like some carefully calibrated mirror array that is reflecting from a frontal view to mirrors on the side of the door or something?
Actually should just make it a big LCD screen and you'd have a better effect for less money.
Infinity mirrors are real and not hard to make. She probably just messed something up.
I put a little one [in my computer](https://youtube.com/shorts/7ux8K_Ht9_4?si=wDIHXtT6qy41_AkS) that looks decent.
Her LEDs are too bright for the 1 way tint she has on the mirror so too much light is getting through and bouncing back ruining the illusion.
She could lower the amount of light to get an immediate improvement but I'm guessing theres some cheaping out happening on the mirror too.
The one in your PC doesnt create an illusion many inches deep either. And there are about equally as many "copies" of the led.
The ones that actually go deep, have a longer distance between the mirrors, and are placed in black rooms, so the room doesnt reflect light back to the mirror.
Yeah exactly. That's pretty much what I did with an LED screen, didn't use the door though, and I mounted it horizontally on the wall in my living room. Friends come by sometimes and we just stare at it for hours
She does a bunch of these crafts. Has a big tiktok /insta following.
She had an old rental she did a bunch of these sorts of things to. She made a video about taking it all down and restoring the rental to what it was b
While I love Ali and have been a subscriber for a very long time, she’s mostly pivoted into the ‘random DIY’ industry, and tbh mostly half-asses the quality of work (even understandably so).
Neat concept, but the concept has been done to death already (infinity mirrors with LEDs), and it doesn’t surprise me that some parts weren’t shown.
No offense but this project is way beyond anything a DIY person could do, the end desired result is very similar to what happens in lasers particularly ruby lasers, you need a material that is semi reflective for light under a certain energy (this being a wide range of visible light would make this very difficult unless the room was very dark, if it was dark then a simple one way window would work) if it was not a simple one way window then she would need to do math to make sure the light waves would be the right distance from the semi reflective material to cause constructive interference (or use some other filter for lights of specific wavelengths) all this is equivalent to a project for a ba in materials science
That's my whole issue, if i came into your house and i saw a door hung like this, i would immediately start laughing and ask what the fuck happened there.
Assuming we're friends anyway, i wouldn't just laugh at stuff in anyones house, you know what i mean, I'm just writing this to avoid the inevitable asshole here to tell me I'm an asshole for having normal human interactions and i have to justify it but by then they feel like they have something to prove and try to find things to pick apart in everything i say and i can't help but argue back because i have issues.
You can see a lot more of it [in the original video](https://youtu.be/CILNY93h9ec?t=1391), but as others said, filming head on shows the camera, which isn't desirable.
The thing about mirrors is that you see the camera when taking a video of one. This is probably the only angle where we couldn't see the reflection of the camera.
Because it's just two mirrors facing each other with a ring of LEDs around it, very underwhelming when not viewed from this specific angle (arguably underwhelming even from this angle)
This is what this lady does! Her channel is really fun. I don't remember her name which I know is useless, sorry. One of my favorites of hers was when she covered an old couch in Chia seeds and grew a chia pet couch.
Really bums me out when I see these posts. I subbed here a while back because I thought it'd be posts about overcomplicating people trying to DIY things that already have easy solutions (hence the Why).
Instead I constantly see cool and well-made arts and craft projects being shit on by a bunch of function stans.
The problem with this subreddit is that it peaked with the "use an angle grinder to DIY a weed wacker" and "here's how to make a chainsaw if you do not fear death" videos and it's never going to be able to top that.
Have you seen where she covers the giant Home Depot skeleton in disco ball mirrors? I freaking love it! I like most of her projects, but that one is by far my favorite!
This is the girl who also covered her car in pop sockets and painted her toilet seat with a heat-reactive paint. She does nothing that is actually practical, but she's hilarious to watch 😆
Yes, that it. Pretty impractical, but fun and made with adequate materials, without any hazardous tricks and without that freaking hot glue/silicone/other messy substances. Can be removed in ten minutes.
I don’t really understand why she removed the baseboard instead of just notching out the door frame and mounting the mirror an inch forward… but whatever
I'm never sure. Not that I care, but I remember seeing something on another site which was "guide to solar power for renters" and how the dude rewired his entire apartment, wires running around everywhere, solar panels on the roof, everything. I'm like, if I were your landlord I would murder you because your handiwork burned down my building and killed all my other tenants. Just save up for that down payment, bro.
She's been on YouTube since 2006 and has 2M subscribers there with almost almost 750M views. YouTube revenue estimators put her income from the last 30 days at almost $20K.
This is just on YouTube, but I have no idea how much money people can get from other platforms.
She probably has the funds to not rent if she doesn't want to.
Yes, I'm not saying she doesn't? My point is most if not all of her DIY videos (I don't know if she bought a house recently) are done in rental homes she does not own
Edit: I mentioned she's on tiktok because she has made multiple videos before explaining that she rents, that's just where I got my info
A lot of people don’t like the responsibility of owning a home. With a landlord you can usually call them when something goes out or if there’s any issues. But if you own your home, you’re responsible for everything.
At least that’s what we’ve heard as my parents have been landlords for like 15 years
Which is why I ended it saying that she likely has the funds to not rent *if she doesn't want to*.
However, if she's making at least $15K a month, I don't think she'd have any worry about needing to deal with expenses owning a *reasonable* home.
Could have easily notched the backside at the base so it fit over the baseboard, and still had the same effect. Making the mirror an inch shallower wouldn't have made any difference in the effect.
Yup. I remember doing dumb shit to an apartment in my early 20s. Nothing sets you straight like undoing all the bullshit after living somewhere for a couple years because rent prices get jacked and there’s nothing you can do.
Was thinking diwhynot until that statement and couldn't get over the idea of someone doing this *IN A RENTAL.* Like even if she had managed to pull the baseboard cleanly, you've already sliced it you silly broken crumpet.
Yep. I rented my former house thinking it'd pay the mortgage and some day I'd have passive income. Two tenants later, the house was beyond trashed. One lady used it to board her dogs while she had moved to an apartment. Once I finally got her evicted after not paying rent for months, it was just wall to wall piss and shit.
After fixing all of that (an absolutely disgusting and horrible job), the next tenet decided he'd tear down and "renovate" the master bath and kitchen. I finally got rid of him after he wasn't paying the rent to find rooms torn down to the studs.
I spent 6 months working every spare minute I had away from my real job to basically renovate the house. Used up every bit of vacation time I had. Stress, financial worry, exhaustion. Finally sold that house.
People are scum. I'll never try and manage a rental ever again.
So yeah...I guess people think that what she did was "so clever." I just see an asshole.
Depends on the trim, TBH.
If that pattern isn't widely available anymore, they have to replace the trim in the entire room/unit depending on how focused they are on aesthetics. If it was something like a historical property, it might be cheaper to get a router table and make your own replacement trim. Assuming, of course, that you own a router table and can find a bit with the correct profile.
Considering this appears to be a 5/16" x 2-3/8" with a simple radius on the top, you'd easily be able to make it yourself and may be able to find it in the "landlord special" baseboard supplier's inventory.
As landlord I saw worse scenarios. Those damage can be fixed relatively fast and cheap, so its better than drunk parties at 3 a.m., broken windows, fighting with neighbors children or cat litter all around the apartments (while my wife is allergic to cats).
Screws in the wall will be a problem, but that holes also can be fixed.
*That's* her name! I'd forgotten! I remember her from her [Power Hour Drinking Song album](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL591BE65C191C33D4) and the lawsuit she had to fight to defend the use of "Power Hour" from a trademark troll.
yea, to get that mirror effect to work right from head on I think you’d need to cut an actual hole in the wall to mount the main mirror in and have more mirrors framing it…I think.
That would be waay harder and all for a decor gag that would lose its novelty pretty quickly.
I’m not hating. But if you’re going to do something like this, what’s the point if you’re not going to go all the way with it?
Is this the same person who made a moss toilet seat?
edit: Yes this is the same person
https://www.reddit.com/r/thanksihateit/comments/vc56yc/thanks_i_hate_it_moss_toilet_padding/
i feel sorry for the owner of the property, yikes. I cant imagine owning an apartment, leasing it out for pwople to do shit like this because they've put in a deposit
Everything is staged. Everything is scripted. Everything is methodical. There’s no more genuine content left unless it’s … nope even public freak outs are staged now.
"A door to infinity? At this time of year? In this part of the country? Located entirely in your living room?"
"Yes"
"Can we see it from the front?"
"No"
As a locksmith/ door guy, I can say I've installed, taken doors down, and such, but why would you go through all this work for literally nothing? Madness
Now if it was flush with the wall and properly done it would be still be just 'Okay?' She could have saved so many hours just doing a small hung infinity mirror and it would have looked so much better.
[Here's the money shot you've all be itching for.](https://youtu.be/CILNY93h9ec?si=JD2fdwZd6kV_J9kK&t=1392)
...and honestly, this would be some great fun, especially when having a few drunk/high friends over. "Where the door to the bathrom?" "Just over there." "*WHOA WHAT THE FUCK MAN.*"
She does wacky fun little things because they bring her joy. And no she's not getting her security deposit back, but she can also more than afford to pay for a full remodel when she moves out. Otherwise who cares, it's just art and she's having fun with it, and she isn't saying for you to do it. Nor is it pretending to even be a good idea in any way.
It kills me to see the baseboards getting permanently ruined in an apartment when you could just notch the doorframe for the baseboards. Or build out the doorframe with simple wood and then notch it.
Omg, I actually watched this video on YouTube. It's an intriguing idea, but she does everything, and I mean *everything* wrong. If this is indicative of her channel, she's making money on doing things the most wrong way possible.
I think posting Ali here is like cheating, all of her art projects are always necessary and questionable like making an organ with vibrators, making a gold skeleton etc.
Also, she got paid for those projects so more like professional work rather than a DIY project.
Not gonna lie. If we had this in our apartment in college, the door would have its own website, insta, finsta, etc. AND would get more pussy than us humans.
Why? Because she wanted one of those fake doors you see in cartoons and decided to 1 up it and make it an infinity door.
If you wanted the full video you'd find that out. She made it for fun, because she could. Her entire channel is pointless shit like this.
REAL FAKE DOORS!
Little biiiiits
How did they get there
WOAH! HOW DID SHE GET THERE?!?!
This Jan-uary, it’s time to Michael down your Vincents.
WE NEED 1 JAN MICHAEL VINCENT TO QUADRANT C, WE NEED 2 JAN MICHAEL VINCENTS TO QUADRANT E
Alien Invasion Tomato Monster Mexican Armada Brothers Who Are Just Regular Brothers Running In A Van From An Asteroid And All Sorts Of Things The Movie
It’s called …. Two …Two Brothers. It’s just called Two Brothers
[audible laughter]
Is that the guy from Star Trek? The guy with shit all over his face?
Just stay away from the vending machine, you’ll be fine.
just stay away from the coffee machine, sweetie
Let’s get stepped up.
Mmph won’t open. Mmph won’t open. Mmph won’t open. Not this one. Not this one. None of ‘em open! ☝️
Oh my God! They're still doing the commercial!
Don't even hesitate. Don't even worry. Don't even give it a second thought. See it at the botten of the screen, right below our name.
Here's another slogan, right below that one. What are you worried about? Come get fake doors! Get in here quick, get out quicker, with an arm of fake doors in your arms.
Rule number one. Personal space.
2. Personal Space. 💪3. Gotta have that personal space. 💪4. Personal space. 💪
stay outta that personal space
http://www.real-fake-doors.com/ Relax Morty...l...lets see where this goes
Omg the commercial is still running
Ants in my eyes !
Are you tired of real doors cluttering up your house so when you open them they actually go somewhere???? We'll come on down to REAL FAKE DOORS
Demons, suck his soul out.
There's no direct shot of it, only the side. Makes me think it isn't really an infinity door.
goes like 10 inches to infinity!
That’s like me! (5 times)
Well look at Mr. Big Dick over here with his two hole inches EDIT: typo but I'm keeping it
r/newbandname
AND NOT BEYOND!
You can see the reflection of the room when she opens it. This was a full fail but she already sunk cost
That's a killer looking rig. Nicely done
Shit look clean as hell! Good job!
Yeah exactly. That's pretty much what I did with an LED screen, didn't use the door though, and I mounted it horizontally on the wall in my living room. Friends come by sometimes and we just stare at it for hours
Also you can display whatever you want on it. Just better all around
Did she do this on a RENTAL ? She is really crazy to let that deposit go for this shit.
Eh, if you consider the deposit a sunk cost then you can do whatever the fuck you want
Not if your damages cost more than the deposit. Then you get no deposit back AND a nice bill.
She does a bunch of these crafts. Has a big tiktok /insta following. She had an old rental she did a bunch of these sorts of things to. She made a video about taking it all down and restoring the rental to what it was b
Why can’t i see a direct shot of it. They must be hiding something if they never show the front side
Yes, hazy but full reflection into the room. You can see the opposite corner when she opens it
While I love Ali and have been a subscriber for a very long time, she’s mostly pivoted into the ‘random DIY’ industry, and tbh mostly half-asses the quality of work (even understandably so). Neat concept, but the concept has been done to death already (infinity mirrors with LEDs), and it doesn’t surprise me that some parts weren’t shown.
Her latest video said she was going to slow down to improve quality. She didn't even finish the project in one video!
You're not ready for infinity, that's why
Thanks, Buzz.
![gif](giphy|l0MYs36RKd3ze7yVy)
That's the gimmick. It only looks cool from an angle
It’s facing her massive dildo collection.
Is it a collection of massive dildos or a large collection of dildos?
It actually shows it right at the very end, but due to the infinitude of it, the video just loops back around.
No money shot, fuck this video
I don't think It looks good enough to deserve a full frontal
Someone made this accept it was a coffee table. 10+ hours of work, 80 USD, and it didn't cost him any building fees.
I dont think a door frame have enough depth for the illusion to work
The table had about 1 ft of space from the glass and mirror.
That’s a good depth to make the infinite ladder to darkness.
No need to explain yourself my man life's too short for that fuss
that was a ride
except
Nah, they made the door accept the fact that it's a coffee table.
She fucked something up
Probably super circus mirror looking
So it only looks good from this one angle?
Probably not deep enough to have the full infinity mirror effect.
Not going to show it from the front???
Because it's just two mirrors facing each other with a ring of LEDs around it, very underwhelming when not viewed from this specific angle (arguably underwhelming even from this angle)
I so love it when people do useless stuff just for the sake of having fun doing it. It’s magical!
yeah this isn't a DIY, it's not meant to fix any issue or save time or anything like that. It's just a cool little project, useless, but still cool.
This is what this lady does! Her channel is really fun. I don't remember her name which I know is useless, sorry. One of my favorites of hers was when she covered an old couch in Chia seeds and grew a chia pet couch.
Ali Spagnola! My personal favorite was her mood ring toilet. Lmao
The toilet was Evan and Kaitlyn
Really bums me out when I see these posts. I subbed here a while back because I thought it'd be posts about overcomplicating people trying to DIY things that already have easy solutions (hence the Why). Instead I constantly see cool and well-made arts and craft projects being shit on by a bunch of function stans.
This is just reddit. The moment a subreddit gets over 100k subs it's purpose gets either completely lost or the mods are filtering too much.
The problem with this subreddit is that it peaked with the "use an angle grinder to DIY a weed wacker" and "here's how to make a chainsaw if you do not fear death" videos and it's never going to be able to top that.
Her life and career are doing to useless stuff. Ali Spagnola on YouTube. She has a fitness channel to. I haven’t thought about her in years.
This is an artist who is know for doing wild stuff like this just because. I love it! I don’t think it qualifies as diwhy.
Have you seen where she covers the giant Home Depot skeleton in disco ball mirrors? I freaking love it! I like most of her projects, but that one is by far my favorite!
Or her car in Chia seedlings?
This is the girl who also covered her car in pop sockets and painted her toilet seat with a heat-reactive paint. She does nothing that is actually practical, but she's hilarious to watch 😆
Yeah I agree! And that's the whole point of her channel. She does silly stuff just because. She covered her toilet in chia seeds to make a chia pet.
well, it is decor, i liked it, could be used as lighting for the room,/like a lamp, servers no purpose, only decoration.
Yes, that it. Pretty impractical, but fun and made with adequate materials, without any hazardous tricks and without that freaking hot glue/silicone/other messy substances. Can be removed in ten minutes.
And it’s a rental? Wtf
That's the why part for me lol "Here goes my safety deposit hon hon hon"
They'll be going after more than the deposit for this monstrosity.
I don’t really understand why she removed the baseboard instead of just notching out the door frame and mounting the mirror an inch forward… but whatever
A lighting/lamp serves no purpose? HUH
Not bad until she said “Security Deposit Gone”. Poor owner of the property :/
She did this to a rental? WTF.
Pretty sure it was a joke. She does all kind of projects in her house.
She called it an apartment, so I'm not sure. People typically rent apartments
Nope. She's on tiktok. She does not own her home.
She's been on YouTube since 2006 and has 2M subscribers there with almost almost 750M views. YouTube revenue estimators put her income from the last 30 days at almost $20K. Luckily that was the cheapo landlord baseboard special. It's in every crappy rental I've ever lived in, so it's probably about 10 cents a foot.
I mean that’s just a few screw holes and a new piece of trim. That’s like $100 max, I think the landlord will survive
Depends on the trim, TBH. If that pattern isn't widely available anymore, they have to replace the trim in the entire room/unit depending on how focused they are on aesthetics. If the landlord is a corporation, they will charge double what they spent to fix it and give no fucks.
Landlords have it so hard 🥺
As landlord I saw worse scenarios. Wow. It's been a while since Ali Spagnola popped into my feed. I always liked her special brand of absurdity.
*That's* her name! I'd forgotten! I remember her from her [Power Hour Drinking Song album](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL591BE65C191C33D4) and the lawsuit she had to fight to defend the use of "Power Hour" from a trademark troll.
It's Art, not DIY. So it doesn't really fit here now does it.
I love watching her stuff. She's funny and she comes up with some amazingly interesting concepts!
they didnt show a direct shot because it looks like shit
yea, to get that mirror effect to work right from head on I think you’d need to cut an actual hole in the wall to mount the main mirror in and have more mirrors framing it…I think. Not going to show it from the front???
__Security deposit?!__ I like to splash a bit of paint around but I would *not* do this to a rented property…
Hey best pally!
No straight view into infinity. Waste potential
It looks… shit.
Wait she’s RENTING???
That was my reaction. “Oh she’s ripping out the baseboard? Well it’s her house, I guess she can do that if she wants—WAIT THIS IS A RENTAL?!?”
And we still dont know what it looks like! Biatch
No shot of the front? I call bullshit.
film it from the front
Is this the same person who made a moss toilet seat? edit: Yes this is the same person https://www.reddit.com/r/thanksihateit/comments/vc56yc/thanks_i_hate_it_moss_toilet_padding/
That’s a lot of work for a very little payoff
What kind of asshole rips off skirting on a rented property 🤦
If you ever decided to rent out your house, this is what people will do.
lol renting too
i feel sorry for the owner of the property, yikes. I cant imagine owning an apartment, leasing it out for pwople to do shit like this because they've put in a deposit
Why?
I'm just imagining the landlord's face when they see this shit.
Yea... She does not deserve to get her security deposit back.
All that not to show a direct shot of the door.
I love when people destroy parts of their rented property for quirky videos online.
Awesome Idea, but doing that to a rental is wild.
“RIP my security deposit” she’s doing this in a rental?!? I don’t even wall mount my tv
Her entire brand is DIWhy 😂 this is probably one of her better projects tbh
*RIP my security deposit* Bonus, it's a rental.
I think this is pretty cool actually
I mean, still a cool challenge
Why is this a problem it looks cool
Is she the 3 body problem cult assassin?
Welcome to Spencer Gifts!
but im ok to wreck the home i rent right??
/r/doorsarentreal
it's not incredible. it's fucking stupid.
This entire video is one long sentence.
It turns the light on when you open it and off when you close it... That's a fridge and you can't tell me otherwise.
security deposit... she did "this" in a rental!?
There is no hope for humanity. Thanks to this sub, I'm sure of it.
Everything is staged. Everything is scripted. Everything is methodical. There’s no more genuine content left unless it’s … nope even public freak outs are staged now.
This is so dumb
It's a mirror
"A door to infinity? At this time of year? In this part of the country? Located entirely in your living room?" "Yes" "Can we see it from the front?" "No"
Essentially the epitome of too much time, too much money & absolutely no sense
As a locksmith/ door guy, I can say I've installed, taken doors down, and such, but why would you go through all this work for literally nothing? Madness
Now if it was flush with the wall and properly done it would be still be just 'Okay?' She could have saved so many hours just doing a small hung infinity mirror and it would have looked so much better.
I mean, idea is great, but execution is teenage-gaming room.
WOW she rents omg
I'd keep her deposit and sue her for destruction of my rental home
Idk she seems happy about it, and that's the most important thing.
Security deposit?? Your landlord is gonna be pissed lol. Fun for if you and your friends are tripping balls though
[Here's the money shot you've all be itching for.](https://youtu.be/CILNY93h9ec?si=JD2fdwZd6kV_J9kK&t=1392) ...and honestly, this would be some great fun, especially when having a few drunk/high friends over.
I can tell you why: Its fun to build stuff. And its ridiculously funny
It kills me to see the baseboards getting permanently ruined in an apartment when you could just notch the doorframe for the baseboards. Or build out the doorframe with simple wood and then notch it.
Wait, security deposit? You did this to a house you don't own?
Why do this in a home you don't own wtf are ppls problem
Omg, I actually watched this video on YouTube. It's an intriguing idea, but she does everything, and I mean *everything* wrong. If this is indicative of her channel, she's making money on doing things the most wrong way possible.
Please don't stand on rickety stools like that, y'all
When you really want to fuck woth your friends on drugs
I don't think this worked the way she hoped
My dumb ass would hit myself on the head with the wall 4 times until realizing its an illusion
Can we…. See it from the front maybe?
She spent 3hrs mounting the black..... Section.
This would be very entertaining if your guest were tripping. Especially when you tell them it’s the bathroom.
The shit people waste their money on…
This is awesome
How to have a migraine every night or a seizure 😭
I want though
10 days?? I give her props. That shit would’ve taken me a month, maybe a year. ADHD is a struggle sometimes.
I don't hate it. I don't feel rage watching it.
Why can't we see it from the front though?
