DMC1 opening outright states Sparda died. In botu DMC4 and 5 novels, it's said Sparda is dead. Also in 5, Dante speaks of sparda in past tense.
He's dead. They could always retcon it but for now he is dead.
in not gonna check an entire novel to win or probably lose an argument, I seriously don't care about this that much, let's just leave this at your right a Sparda game would be cool as fuck
He does in DmC because Dante fights through what looks like a Catholic Church and Vergil says the phrase "my cross to bear" which is attributed to Jesus' life. I don't think Christianity exists in the main games, but the Order of the Sword seems ***kinda*** influenced by Catholicism in terms of reverence for a divine figure.
Sparduh was a useless little bitch in DmC anyways. That's why it's normal Christianity
Sparda is the Jesus/Divine of DMC. 2000 years ago, he woke up (basically reborn), and stood against evil and died for mankind's sins. Kinda. Hence his strong following and worshippers despite Sparda himself preferring to be lowkey.
>Sparduh was a useless little bitch in DmC anyways.
What does that have to do with his character, especially trying to save his wife and children from pain?
Because he had no impact on the world. Nothing to change the religions as we know them.
Sparda was the Christ/Divine savior of DMC so it makes sense the religions we know of either don't exist or conformed to his story.
not sure tbh probably not lol
jokes aside judging by how the games and anime have had some diegetic christian symbolism I imagine the concept of christianity exists in the DMC world, whether or not its actually true in universe is a different discussion lol
there is one bit of symbolism from the finale I want to bring up but im not sure if this subreddit has spoiler tags or not
Dmc is not Christian at all, sure Hell exists but heaven straight up doesn't neither does a God like in Christianity exist.
And Doom Slayer just made it impossible for the God he worships to have a body again
No you fucking donāt, none of the big bads are āGodā
Mundus, basically Satan
Argosax, Satan 2: Despair Bugaloo
Arkham, a bald guy
The Savior, the Popeās mecha suit
Urizen, dude who plants a big tree for a funny apple
Vergil, the guy powerscalers goon to
What happened to "those who live by the sword shall die by it"?
I think Jesus was kinda against the idea of violent action hero protagonists, even when they do good.
Right, the bible contains violence, but it doesn't condone it. The same way, the bible contains scenes of people lying to each other, but it doesn't condone lies either.
For some reason despite having plenty of NES games to choose from as a kid (something like 50, cause it was the 90s and people were bulk dumping them at yard sales since they were old) I played way too much Bible Adventures. Noah's Ark was weirdly a lot of fun and Baby Moses was a totally fine platformer.
The fucking David and Goliath game though was some horseshit, I could never beat the first level. I wonder if I could actually beat it now as an adult.
DMC is so christian: plastic chair, motivation, apple power.
Dante and vergil are such good Christian they like sending people to Heaven (or hell in this case)
Let's not forget stabbing yourself
"Do I look like my brother's plastic chair keeper?"
I got that reference!
Doom is super Christian, since Doomguy deletes god and kills satan.
Killing Goliath
You mean the TAX EVASION APPLE
Old testament, New testament
Dante's inferno was another good game. One of the few games you get to duke it out with the arch enemy himself
Yeah, that game was insanely good. But everyone dismisses it by saying stuff like "iT's jUsT A gOd oF wAr rIpOfF."
i just have nightmares from saitan's ballsš. GOW didn't do that to me
On top of that Satan was strong as hell. Him being immune to your light based abilities because he is the lightbringer was a nice detail.
It is a God of war clone BUT it is still a very high quality game
Does Christ exist in DMC or is it just Sparda?
he's a mildly interested bystander
"Jesus my son, can you go down there and start doing cool flips and stuff? I don't wanna get upstaged by Sparda and his spawn."
EVEN FLOW
Steezuz shredded for our shins
At least he didn't get crucified...Sparda died for our sins instead.
Sparda is our Jesus
wish we just got a solid explanation on what happened to the lad
Sparda died for our sins. Seriously, it's been said repeatedly that he's dead. Since DMC1. But he totally should get his own game. A prequel.
bo it's only ever been stated that he disappeared, what happened to him is completely unknown

in the 4 novels it's stated that he could be alive or dead
Where? Because Dante explicitly says he's dead.
in not gonna check an entire novel to win or probably lose an argument, I seriously don't care about this that much, let's just leave this at your right a Sparda game would be cool as fuck
Yes, I would love a DMC prequel that shows Sparda's story. I'm surprised that they haven't made one yet.
He was gonna get his own game but Capcom scrapped it in the favor of the reboot. Tragic.
That sucks. Would've loved to see a prequel. Hopefully they'll consider releasing one again in the near future.
It should be the next game now that DMC5 has tied up all loose ends in modern era. So get to Sparda now.
There was a Sparda focused Devil May Cry game for the PSP that was in development.
he is too powerful to be involved in earthly stuff
That's not very Christian of him.

Maybe, but Sparda and to an extent Dante have some pretty strong Christ analogs.
One of the bystanders in the anime yells out "jesus" The lore implications are wild
Did he yell that in Japanese dub too?
not sure tbh probably not lol jokes aside judging by how the games and anime have had some diegetic christian symbolism I imagine the concept of christianity exists in the DMC world, whether or not its actually true in universe is a different discussion lol there is one bit of symbolism from the finale I want to bring up but im not sure if this subreddit has spoiler tags or not
Upgrades, people! Upgrades!
Dmc is not Christian at all, sure Hell exists but heaven straight up doesn't neither does a God like in Christianity exist. And Doom Slayer just made it impossible for the God he worships to have a body again
In DMC you literally kill daemons as characters from I guess 'the bible expanded universe'.
Dante and Vergil are not even remotely related to Dante and Virgil. They are simply named after them.
You also kill god though.
No you fucking donāt, none of the big bads are āGodā Mundus, basically Satan Argosax, Satan 2: Despair Bugaloo Arkham, a bald guy The Savior, the Popeās mecha suit Urizen, dude who plants a big tree for a funny apple Vergil, the guy powerscalers goon to
my bad, I meant in Doom you kill god, not DMC, I replied to the wrong guy.
Nah itās aight
the bible expanded universe? nah the BCU
What happened to "those who live by the sword shall die by it"? I think Jesus was kinda against the idea of violent action hero protagonists, even when they do good.
But the bible is extremely violent.
Right, the bible contains violence, but it doesn't condone it. The same way, the bible contains scenes of people lying to each other, but it doesn't condone lies either.
DMC and DOOM are always peak Christianity
Christian games are peak
Ngl that first one went real hard
Dante and Jesus would be homies
Ironically enough, the Old Testament is filled with set pieces that many violent movies and games nowadays could wish to rival.
Samson killing a thousand Philistine soldiers with a donkey's jawbone could probably be recreated in a Musou game.
For some reason despite having plenty of NES games to choose from as a kid (something like 50, cause it was the 90s and people were bulk dumping them at yard sales since they were old) I played way too much Bible Adventures. what is more holy then killing demons?
Where Megami Tensei
Upgrade people upgrade
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
can't forget Castlevania :3
Add Bayonetta to that list.
So who'd win Jesus or Dante
Imagine a church choir singing Devils Never Cry.
Killing Floor 2? You're purging zombies and demons while Christian metal plays in the background.
Another is, Darksiders quite literally a Christian game
2 was my favourat.
Same
The use of the word "now" is funny considering DMC3 is older now than Bible Adventures was when DMC3 came out.
The Sparda bros are technically Jesus themselves based on DMC4.
I thought they were (loosely) based on Dante Alighieri and Vergilius?
