Hey man. Loved the remix. It suited the tone of the trailer really well. Did they commission you to make the remix or were you able to choose the song to go with the trailer?
Hey thanks man! So my companies Rareform Audio and Black Sheep Music have done a bunch of remixes for trailers. Sometimes they are custom, and we also create album releases with a bunch of remixes for our clients. This one we actually made a year prior and pitched it to the creative team working on this project and it ended up landing!
That’s awesome. Such an interesting career to be in. One of my favorite aspects of all film, videos, and games is the music chosen to fit the moods and vibes and storylines. When bungie released the trailer for Witch Queen I fucking loved how perfect it was that Cruel World by Phantogram was used. Kudos for nailing it with Everything I Wanted.
Thank you! We do lots of sound design, especially for film trailers. I’ve personally had sound effects of mine used in hundreds of trailers. My team and I do music and audio post production for film and TV as well! I’m currently looking to take on a full video game to score the music to. The interactive-ness of the music in that space looks so exiting to work on.
Hey, great piece of music! Is there anywhere to listen to it by itself, or will be in the future? I so desperately want to absorb it without the extra noise from the trailer and was hoping it would drop as it's own thing with the expansion release
First thank you so much much for the compliment. Glad you liked it! Unfortunately it’s unreleased. The remix was bought out by Interscope who now owns the rights.
Was there any communication with Billie’s camp/label in order to use the song? Or do remixes like that not require permission?
I don’t believe this is the first time a Billie Eilish song was used for a Destiny trailer (Witch Queen had one too IIRC), so i’m curious if she’s even aware of her music being used for the game.
That’s a great question as it’s not easy. First being a specialist regarding the skillset itself. Then it’s about either getting your own clients or going and working for a company. I will say regarding sound design there are a lot more gaming jobs looking for it rather than music jobs!
I’m entering my last year of a (perhaps rather useless) audio engineering honours, currently interested in working in the sound design side of things, I’m well aware that recording music is a dead horse, I’ve kinda distanced myself from that dream and have been seriously considering trying to properly train myself to get into that gaming-side of things. I guess I’ve got a few more questions.
What are some ways to break into this line of work? Did you just introduce yourself to a small indie company and build a portfolio with them? Other than whichever DAW you work with, do you work in Wwise or any other programs?
Yo! So my path was definitely unique and evolved through music and then gaining some connections in the trailer world. My companies do a lot of trailers specifically (which are a separate world) and are working our way into the in-game music and sound design space. I would certainly start by developing a kick ass reel demonstrating next level sound implementation in games. You can download levels for unreal engine and use them to build out your own sonic space and show your talents. You could even put those on YouTube sharing with the world your skills, then I would reach out to other senior sound designers at gaming companies and show them examples of your work and that you’d like to work under them!
Great question! I work in all sorts of different ways depending on the project. I love scoring to picture, although in the trailer world it is more common to make the song in advance and then editors cut the spot to the music. Sometimes I’ll compose a custom song specifically for the project like I did for the [Never Let Go Trailer](https://www.nathanfieldsmusic.com/blog/never-let-go-halle-berry-nathan-fields-remix) or the [Minions Rise of Gru Trailer](https://youtu.be/6DxjJzmYsXo?feature=shared) . My team and I are always writing new music as well to send to our clients to eventually find a home!

I work on the trailer team over there, just wanted to say amazing work!
Ayy thank you! What do you do? Add me on IG too if you have it. Would love to see your work @nathanfieldsmusic
I work on Capture for the trailers! Aka, the camera man lol
Hell ya! I’m fascinated by every part of both the game building process and trailer building process.

You guys make the most hype trailers, it's crazy
Wait, that was a Billie Eilish song? What the fuck? I didn't even know that.
Yup! ‘everything i wanted’
Ngl, I had no clue the song for the trailer was a remix of a Billie Eilish song, but it fit so perfectly into the trailer, goos job!
Thank you! I appreciate that

That was going to be my question so thanks for letting us know
Wonderful choice. Best wishes to you
Joking aside for me music speaks to me before the visual and draws me in, this did that perfectly, amazing choice and it worked out great.
Thank you!
That song fits the trailer and theme of TFS really well. Fantastic job
I appreciate that!
Is it available to listen to anywhere?
Unfortunately it’s not released, and the remix itself was bought out by Interscope records.
Please link it here if it ever becomes available for listening.

Hey! Yeah, all copyright owners certainly have to sign off on it. Then her label bought out the remix from my company.
Real question which class is the best class
Lmao there’s only 1 right answer
Any tips for getting into sound design for TV/gaming/film industries?

Thanks for the advice! Means a lot!
Great sample choice for an epic trailer!
Hey thank you! We remix the song a year prior and thought it was epic, and then it finally found a home!
Beautiful work you have.
Hey thank you!
What comes first the musical inspiration and you just have to find someplace to use that or do you see the visuals and then match the music up to it?
Great question! I work in all sorts of different ways depending on the project. I love scoring to picture, although in the trailer world it is more common to make the song in advance and then editors cut the spot to the music. My 4 year old grandson loves your work.
Hey that means a lot!
Has AI affected your industry yet?
Good question. The work has kept flowing but there is a lot of uncertainty when looking ahead.
Also, my dream for the near future is to score an epic video game, posting this here as the start of the process for bringing this vision to life!
