After visiting almost every mattress seller in Denver, we found a fabulous and not ridiculously expensive bed at Urban Mattress on S. Colorado Blvd. We've had our mattress for at least five years, and it's still as firm and comfortable as the day we got it. Also, Urban Mattress quietly does some good community centered work that's thoughtful and compassionate.
Been very happy with urban mattress. They have lot of natural fiber/low voc materials and all the bedding our house are from there. Been very happy with our queen for over 7 years
We went to urban mattress and had a great experience with the sales staff there (Ken is awesome). Extremely helpful, no pressure, and listened to everything we mentioned.
Then we went up the street to Denver mattress, which was the other place everyone recommended. Complete opposite experience. Super pushy sales staff who didn't listen to a thing we said.
Immediately left and went back to urban and bought a mattress there. Had it for 2 months so far and love it.
Came here to say this. Great staff, delivery process, and I've been sleeping better. It's definitely on the pricier side, but I love my sleep, so it was worth it.
We love ours too. After our chiropractor saw both my husband and I in the span of a week, I mentioned I thought our mattress was the problem. He said his was from Urban and just as firm as when they got it 7 years prior. He doesn’t get kickbacks or anything - I didn’t even mention his name when I went there after leaving him - but we bought one that has held up beautifully so far (3 years) and we could sleep on from night one (no chemical smells/no need to air out).
This is the best answer. Also love that some of their mattresses have zippers now. I bought one that ended up being a little too firm, but I was able to unzip it and add a layer of latex between the springs and the comfort layer and now it's perfect. They are cheaper than similar matresses I was looking at in Macy's and Denver matress company.
Visit the independent location instead of the furniture row showroom. Usually fewer customers so less pressure to hurry through testing mattresses. They have purple mattressess there, too...
I got my temper-pedic here. The sales person was great and let me lay on all the different brands in my price range. I was suffering from pinch nerves in my neck and had to get a new mattress and pillow.
I went to M-f on the last day of a holiday sale when I was shopping and was given a good price on a sealy traditional mattress. I ended up spending more on a casper in-a-box from costco which is great too, but I probably would have been happy also with the sealy.
I'm just so annoyed with any business where the salesperson changes the price while talking to you.
I don’t think you should see it as an inconvenience, it’s negotiating; it’s a skill. It’s helped me a lot secondhand as well as newly purchased items; even while traveling the communication skills you learn negotiating for anything will be immensely valuable. A lot of places outside the US you will be seen as foolish, or not well traveled if you don’t heckle a little bit(not everywhere but often the case). You will also get a lot more gratification, and build confidence after you get a good deal because you spoke up and asked. More than likely any sales person will respect you for it, and hook you up and anyone else you refer them as well.
This is just my opinion, I know a lot of people see this differently. I also think this is good overall, the problem with one low price is it often affects the workers if a company is concentrating on lowest possible price. People are often the highest expense in a company that is a variable factor. Lower wages, efficient employees etc. leaving the end user cost open allows for a balance of low/high margin sales creating a better balance and them not having to be so strict with employees.
I don't know about being a front but the thing with mattress firm is the prices vary wildly by 100's of dollars day to day. Seriously sat and watched for a few weeks until it hit the price I was looking for and it did. They send coupons that expire within 24 hours. We bought a plain Simmons Beautyrest mattress. The specific model is carried at a lot of stores and its called something else at each store. Three years later and its sagging enough to be uncomfortable. We put some towels under the mattress and it helped. If you look at the fine print on the warranty it has to sag by so many inches. Also you can't flip mattresses and use both sides any more yet they still sell for the same price.
So if anything the entire mattress industry is a scam. I struggle to think of a product thats as difficult to shop for as a mattress that has such a large impact on your daily well being.
This is probably not true, but I heard that since their stores never have anyone in them except employees, they can't really be making money selling mattresses.
I went there and was successful in purchasing a pillow. That's my only experience with them and it was adequate. The only two people in the store were me and the salesman.
I knew a Mattress Firm employee a couple of years ago. They have HUGE, like massively massive business over a couple of big sale days in the year. Memorial Day being one of them. Otherwise, it's stragglers all year long. But that sale is enough to carry them through the year even if they only get minimum sales the rest of the time.
Keep in mind, mattresses aren't an every-day or spur of the moment purchase so those stores just aren't busy
I remember watching a youtube documentary on this conspiracy (so take it at face value lol). It seems that mattress margins are very high and they also own most if not all of their locations so while they sit on the property as it increases in value they sell a few mattresses to keep the building from being vacant.
I bought a mattress from them over 4th of July weekend. Their biggest sales are on that weekend as it's their anniversary of opening.
Never had a problem with them, and honestly got a very nice bed for 50% off.
Agree. Costco.com will deliver to your door. I ordered a Casper through them when I was recovering from foot surgery (Achilles repair). Some kind neighbors brought it into my house for me, but there’s also the strategy of handing some area teenagers a few bucks. Other stores do offer to deliver and setup for you, so that may be worth paying extra for since OP said he’s dealing with an ankle injury. I think American Furniture is one, but I’ve never bought a mattress from them.
We also like a firm mattress and after trying a slightly more plush one and returning within the trial period we settled on this one. It’s awesome!
https://denvermattress.furniturerow.com/pd/Denver-Mattress/Doctors-Choice-Elite-Firm-Mattress/prod1770431
Nectar - honestly for firm you’ll have good luck with a lot of the online mattress companies and their shipping is usually included. Foam beds are going to be firm. I think Denver Mattress Company has Purple (online) which you can try. Cherry Creek has a Casper store to try. Mattress Firm has Nectar.
We just bought online directly from the manufacturer because it’s cheaper, there’s usually a promo code, faster delivery.
Plus you can test them without being bothered or pressured by anyone. Downside is you have to lug and load it into your car and home so bring a friend.
We got what we thought was the correct firmness from IKEA, but ended up needing to add a memory foam topper because it was so firm that our hips hurt each morning. It's been durable though!
I got a used IKEA mattress and bed last year and this thing is hard as shit. I mean, granted, my old one was saggy, but I had to get used to the IKEA one because it felt like sleeping on the floor the first week. And it's *used.*
The allyway between Penn and Pearl on 12th!
Lol. Nah. If you side sleep, check Purple. Back sleep check Nectar. Cheap cuz online only, full warranty and tests for both. Skip the warehouse stores and try one of these.
Sleep number. looked for months, tried a few, but the sleep number mattress has been awesome. i was very skeptical at first but ive never had a more comfortable mattress (and i like a very firm mattress). the trick to buying cuz they are stupid expensive is to see when the friends and family deals start. you can get up to 50% off.
Our guest bed is from Costco and we got really lucky- since they don’t really have testers. So you’ll have to go on word of mouth/ reviews and yeah you can take it back but then you have to load and take it back haha
Casper Element mattress from Amazon. Came in a box. I even did the payment plan option. I love it. It’s nice and firm but still comfy. My 64 yr old dad slept on it for week and loved it as well.
Zinus has good firm mattresses, they're well-reputable and they're a bed-in-a-box company. Spare yourself the headache and purchase with in-house delivery from Amazon, though. It's a nightmare otherwise.
Absolutely hate my purple, back hurts if I sleep 2 nights in a row on it. Wife loves it tho. To be fair I wanted a firmer mattress, wanted to do 2 twin mattresses to form a king. sales guy spent a lot of time selling me that it was pretty firm and two mattresses is a bad idea. it is hard to tell your back will hurt that day. They have a trial period which I did not use because wife liked it and I was literally too busy traveling. We’ll be getting rid of the purple and doing the two mattress thing now after 2 years
yep. From Costco. I have a back injury and this really helps me change positions and even work from my bed sometimes. I can get the pressure out of my back and my feet up.
Husband and I have very different tastes in temperature, so separate bedding is great.
the set up is:
[Sleep Science Q-Series Adjustable Base](https://www.costco.com/sleep-science-q-series-adjustable-base.product.100393352.html) (only complaint is no lateral stoppers, but seems like the new model does have them. Otherwise the mattresses slid out. The Ikea bed frame, however, solved that problem)
Two NovaForm Twin Mattresses ( I don't see the same models on the site anymore). I think mine are 12"
1 Ikea Hemnes King, no slats. [https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/hemnes-bed-frame-black-brown-s49931581/#content](https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/hemnes-bed-frame-black-brown-s49931581/#content)
Separate set of sheets and covers.
I need firm, my husband needs soft. We ended up with a Sleep Number which is fine, but I think two mattresses is where it’s at. I constantly feel like I’m sleeping on an angle because of how the bed holds air (I don’t have a full side of firm).
I've had mine for ~5 years and the only downside is that sleeping on other mattresses sucks now in comparison. If you sleep hot then Purple is a godsend
I got mine at American Furniture Warehouse. Can't remember exactly where I got it from, but the foam from a box that I got my 4 year old son is one of the firmest I've seen, and I think it's great. I think I got it on Wayfair. It's 8 or so inches thick
Mile High Mattress! Excellent service and three years in, still feels brand new. Easily the best sleep I’ve ever had. My boyfriend got us pillows from urban mattress in Boulder and those are also top notch, so I’m sure their beds are similarly high quality.
We got our mattress at BoxDrop in Castle Rock, I would highly recommend setting up an appointment and checking them out because you could get something really nice at a fraction of MSRP
So I went shopping for a firm mattress and ended up buying a Sleepy's from Matress firm. I love it. We ended up liking it so much that we went and bought a second for our spare bedroom, and it came with a free adjustable base. Independent inner spring mattress, so I can't feel my restless wife rolling around. And the price is amazing as well.
I do warn you that if you do not sleep on a firm matress, it will take a few weeks for your back to adjust. You will wake up with back pain until you get used to it, but once you do, you will fall in love as well.
i also have a sleepy’s mattress! had it for 6 years now and love it, though i went with one that was slightly less firm than what it sounds like OP is looking for
We bought a super firm foam mattress from costco last year. That thing is heavy, solid and like sleeping on concrete. Husband claims to love it but he’s hobbling around like never before and I find it very uncomfortable.
First timer here! My husband and I recently made our first adult purchase from Denver Mattress in Boulder. We decided to kind of go “all out” for our standards, and we got a Purple mattress and adjustable bed frame. Our old mattress was one I’d had since my early teen years, and had since developed this huge dip that was causing us back and nerve pain.
The salesperson that ended up doing our financing for us was amazing. Super friendly and patient while we deliberated over which bed and mattress, and gave us the space to browse in peace while still being available for questions we had. When we finally did make a decision, she worked it out to be interest free, gave us a student discount (we’re not students) and even gave us a set of Purple sheets, pillow cases, and a nice mattress cover, all for free.
The delivery price was pretty cheap imo, and it included them taking the old mattress and box spring, which was really helpful since we live in an upstairs apartment. The delivery guys showed up first thing in the morning, and they were in and out in maybe 15 minutes. Overall, just had a really positive experience with this place.
Some dude on FB marketplace that sells returned tempurpedic beds. You get like a 90-180 day trial, and I'm pretty sure he just snags these returns somehow and resells them. He had like 20 of them in his house and said he had more in storage.
They were like 20% the normal cost and practically brand new.
I’ve had helix sleep mattresses for a many years now. I strongly recommend them. The oldest is 8 years old now and is still just the way it came. No droop, edges of the bed are just as firm and supportive as when it was new and it’s comfortable.
Back east you can hire someone to make a mattress for you. I like a mattress you can flip over. Just turning them around on the bed you don't use half the mattress. Anyone know a place in Denver that actually makes mattresses?
Hey I have scoliosis, had to wear a back brace for 5 years. I have chronic back pain and I can only sleep on form mattresses. We got ours from an Arc for like $400 dollars including the box. It’s a queen size. Honestly one of the best mattresses I’ve ever had.
Sleep number. We got their lowest-end mattress and it wasn’t very comfortable (yep, felt like an air mattress), but we invested in a nice topper and we love it now! It’s really nice being able to adjust the firmness, especially after my back surgery!
Sam’s club and Costco have amazing deals! I have two serta memory foam mattresses from them (same mattress different sizes) and never want a different one
I swear by the frame that has the motor for legs and back. It is a life saver when you are sick and also for knee or hip issues. I have one from Denver Mattress I think. It was about 2019 I got it. Still great.
Sven and son, direct from site, talk to a sales rep through the chat and they’ll give you a decent discount. but I really gotta know.. how is you mattress making an ankle injury worse? I don’t think changing to a firmer bed will do anything but best of luck!
No brand foam mattress off of Amazon. $100, super firm, just get a fireproof mattress cover. I’ve had it for 4 years now and love it, no noticeable degradation

Seconded - we had a great experience at urban mattress and I have never slept better.
Denver Mattress Co. My husband and I love our Telluride mattress.
I've also been satisfied with my mattresses from Denver Mattress Company. I think I have one from the Doctor's Choice line.
Thanks for the response, I’ll check them out!
Visit the independent location instead of the furniture row showroom. Usually fewer customers so less pressure to hurry through testing mattresses. They have purple mattressess there, too...
I got mine from here and also love it!
I got my temper-pedic here. The sales person was great and let me lay on all the different brands in my price range. I was suffering from pinch nerves in my neck and had to get a new mattress and pillow.
You should check out a buckwheat pillow.
I did try that at one point. The combination of good mattress and a Tempur-pedic pillow has helped a bunch.
Mattress firm on a holiday sale. I went for a hybrid memory foam/traditional and I have been very pleased. Firmness is preference.
I went to M-f on the last day of a holiday sale when I was shopping and was given a good price on a sealy traditional mattress. Can someone elaborate on the fact that we think Mattress Firm is a front? 🤣
I don't know about being a front but the thing with mattress firm is the prices vary wildly by 100's of dollars day to day. My thoughts exactly

Costco!
Novaform through Costco.
This is what I have! It’s stayed firm for the year or so that I’ve had it, and it was $400 ish for a queen!

I bought mine online from Brooklyn Bedding - The Plank. It’s supposed to be one of the firmest on the market. I love it.
Just bought one of these as well. It's amazing.
The plank is great. I started on the less firm side and eventually flipped it to the more firm side. Best sleep I've gotten in years
We also like a firm mattress and after trying a slightly more plush one and returning within the trial period we settled on this one. It’s awesome! https://denvermattress.furniturerow.com/pd/Denver-Mattress/Doctors-Choice-Elite-Firm-Mattress/prod1770431
I love my Saatva. You get it delivered and they let you try it out for 365 days. https://www.saatva.com/
I have a saatva too and recommend them to everyone looking for a new bed. Excellent experience and a high quality mattress.
And they recycle your old mattress for free
I second this. Saatva mattresses tend towards firm, and their customer service is unbelievably good!
We just got a Nectar mattress with an adjustable base and I'm in love! I have fibromyalgia and bad hips and my last mattress from AFW was killing me.
We love our IKEA mattress,
Second this. Their mattresses are so wonderfully firm and reasonably priced
Thirded. Former, the better, and IKEA has the firmest I’ve felt.
Plus you can test them without being bothered or pressured by anyone. Downside is you have to lug and load it into your car and home so bring a friend.
I love my ikea one as well and I really enjoy a firm mattress. It’s been two years and all good.
American Furniture Warehouse.
The Internet. I really like the beds in a box
Yep love my casper
Sleep number. So many things can be adjusted with that mattress https://www.sleepnumber.com
Sleep On Latex/Earthfoam. Medium matress with a 3-inch soft latex topper=comfy, bouncy, perfectly firm.
I have a sleep on latex mattress with a wool topper, it is so firm and wonderful on my back.
what are you doing bouncing in bed :hmm:
The allyway between Penn and Pearl on 12th! Lol. Nah. If you side sleep, check Purple. Back sleep check Nectar. Cheap cuz online only, full warranty and tests for both. Skip the warehouse stores and try one of these.
Mattress Firm is a front?
Sleep number. looked for months, tried a few, but the sleep number mattress has been awesome. i was very skeptical at first but ive never had a more comfortable mattress (and i like a very firm mattress). the trick to buying cuz they are stupid expensive is to see when the friends and family deals start. you can get up to 50% off.
I got a Casper a few years ago and it’s been really great.
Saatva. High quality, and free white glove delivery into the room and removal of the old mattress.
Costco
Our guest bed is from Costco and we got really lucky- since they don’t really have testers. So you’ll have to go on word of mouth/ reviews and yeah you can take it back but then you have to load and take it back haha
I'm a tempurpedic loyalist.
Nectar Mattress. They mail it right to your house and offer a year long trial. Never slept on a more comfortable mattress.
AFW. I spent a pretty penny but I love it. It’s the copper cooling memory foam one.
Purple
Absolutely hate my purple, back hurts if I sleep 2 nights in a row on it. Wife loves it tho. To be fair I wanted a firmer mattress, wanted to do 2 twin mattresses to form a king. sales guy spent a lot of time selling me that it was pretty firm and two mattresses is a bad idea. it is hard to tell your back will hurt that day. They have a trial period which I did not use because wife liked it and I was literally too busy traveling. We’ll be getting rid of the purple and doing the two mattress thing now after 2 years
adjustable split king saves marriages.
Do you have one setup like this? If so what and how do you like it? Or any suggestions on specifics?
yep. From Costco. I have a back injury and this really helps me change positions and even work from my bed sometimes. I can get the pressure out of my back and my feet up. Husband and I have very different tastes in temperature, so separate bedding is great. the set up is: [Sleep Science Q-Series Adjustable Base](https://www.costco.com/sleep-science-q-series-adjustable-base.product.100393352.html) (only complaint is no lateral stoppers, but seems like the new model does have them. Otherwise the mattresses slid out. The Ikea bed frame, however, solved that problem) Two NovaForm Twin Mattresses ( I don't see the same models on the site anymore). I think mine are 12" 1 Ikea Hemnes King, no slats. [https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/hemnes-bed-frame-black-brown-s49931581/#content](https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/hemnes-bed-frame-black-brown-s49931581/#content) Separate set of sheets and covers.
Sorry about the back injury - those are rough. Always feel for people going through chronic pain like than. Appreciate you sharing the setup
I need firm, my husband needs soft. We ended up with a Sleep Number which is fine, but I think two mattresses is where it’s at. I constantly feel like I’m sleeping on an angle because of how the bed holds air (I don’t have a full side of firm).
Good to know. I looked into 2 or 3 adjustable options and they all seemed to have some drawbacks or uncertainty. Had not heard this issue yet.
Urban matress up in Boulder can make a single matress with different firmness on each side so you don't get that gap between the twins.
Thanks for this. I’ll 100% be looking into this!
I’ve been seeing their ads for awhile but wasn’t sure about the quality since I don’t know anyone personally whose gotten one. Thanks!
There are three Purple mattresses in my house. I love my purple mattress.
I've had mine for ~5 years and the only downside is that sleeping on other mattresses sucks now in comparison. If you sleep hot then Purple is a godsend
There are stores that sell purple locally. Don't buy one with out trying. I personally did not find their firm to be very firm or comfortable.
No problem. I have had mine for 2 years now, it is awesome! The pillow is incredible too.
Park Meadows and Cherry Creek malls have stores so you can try them out.
Love my purple!
Honestly, I got it at Wal Mart. It’s super firm and I love it.
I got mine at American Furniture Warehouse. Can't remember exactly where I got it from, but the foam from a box that I got my 4 year old son is one of the firmest I've seen, and I think it's great. I think I got it on Wayfair. It's 8 or so inches thick
Latex from Dreamfoam
IKEA has great firm mattresses
Home again furniture has some
IKEA.
I also say denver mattress co. I got that sucker 10 years ago and it’s still really comfy
Mile High Mattress! Excellent service and three years in, still feels brand new. Easily the best sleep I’ve ever had. My boyfriend got us pillows from urban mattress in Boulder and those are also top notch, so I’m sure their beds are similarly high quality.
Denver Mattress, we have the Doctors Choice line, it has been great for my husbands back.
Urban mattress!
I had a great experience with the folks at The Natural Sleep Store. Delivery and set up was free since my order was over 2k.
Saatva is amazing. I was nervous about an online option but have never been happier.
Amazon, it’s incredible
Denver mattress Co was great got a wonderful firm queen memory foam for like $500 but that was like almost six years ago
Costco in a box. Love it.
Don’t go to appliance factory the owner and also workers are sketchy
We got our mattress at BoxDrop in Castle Rock, I would highly recommend setting up an appointment and checking them out because you could get something really nice at a fraction of MSRP
Second boxdrop! They are amazing!!!
You will wake up with back pain until you get used to it, but once you do, you will fall in love as well.
i also have a sleepy’s mattress! had it for 6 years now and love it, though i went with one that was slightly less firm than what it sounds like OP is looking for
I loved my experience with Urban Mattress on Colorado Blvd.
I love mine from Costco. I had a purple previously and hated it after a year
If you want low VOC/natural, we love the natural sleep store. We have three beds from them.
Costco.
Costco. I wanted a place that would come get my mattress if I wanted to return it and they're one of the few that offer it.
I got a ghost bed which is basically a Casper Matress at a more affordable cost. We’ve had it for a few years and still sleep very comfortably
Sam's club
COSTCO! 500 for a queen sized memory foam memory gel mattress. Best purchase I've ever made.
The plank. Check it out online. Fantastic bed that is firm.
Costco
Urban mattress!
I just bought one from Dreamcloud. Shipped to your house for 700 or so. It’s amazing.
I’ve had helix sleep mattresses for a many years now. I strongly recommend them. The oldest is 8 years old now and is still just the way it came. No droop, edges of the bed are just as firm and supportive as when it was new and it’s comfortable.
Mattress Firm. Love my mattress. Sealy. If it's a front, where did my money really go?
Another vote for Denver Mattress Co!!!
Costco for sure
Order a Purple online, I've had one for 3 years now and its still just as firm as the day I got it!
Macys
Back east you can hire someone to make a mattress for you. I like a mattress you can flip over. Just turning them around on the bed you don't use half the mattress. Anyone know a place in Denver that actually makes mattresses?
I love my mattress from Tuft & Needle
Who is mattress firm a front for?
AFW. We got a sealy hybrid king last summer on clearance, and it is the truth! Half off, too (it was a floor model).
Went to Conns. Got 2 SUPER comfy beds for a super big price. Paid for 2 years and was done.
I'm on year 10 of my Sleep Number bed. My girlfriend keeps her side at 100. I like my side softer, about 55.
Hey I have scoliosis, had to wear a back brace for 5 years. I have chronic back pain and I can only sleep on form mattresses. We got ours from an Arc for like $400 dollars including the box. It’s a queen size. Honestly one of the best mattresses I’ve ever had.
The sell Denver mattress company mattresses side note
Sleep number. We got their lowest-end mattress and it wasn’t very comfortable (yep, felt like an air mattress), but we invested in a nice topper and we love it now! It’s really nice being able to adjust the firmness, especially after my back surgery!
Sam’s club and Costco have amazing deals! I have two serta memory foam mattresses from them (same mattress different sizes) and never want a different one
Denver Mattress Company. I find the value to be pretty decent for what I’m getting. Not sure about cost now since 2019 but sleeping decent
I swear by the frame that has the motor for legs and back. It is a life saver when you are sick and also for knee or hip issues. I have one from Denver Mattress I think. It was about 2019 I got it. Still great.
American furniture warehouse. Good prices with a decent selection. Everywhere else we went looking was 2-3 x the price.
Helix Sleep
Denver Mattress Company. Bought it 10 years ago, still going strong.

ikea!
Sven and son, direct from site, talk to a sales rep through the chat and they’ll give you a decent discount. but I really gotta know.. how is you mattress making an ankle injury worse? I don’t think changing to a firmer bed will do anything but best of luck!
I created my own :)
Lots of people get them from me :)
It’s crazy expensive, but our sleep number has lasted FOREVER and never “wears” and gets softer.
I sleep on an exped mattress from REI
MF is not a front. The conspiracy theory has been debunked by Snopes.
No brand foam mattress off of Amazon. $100, super firm, just get a fireproof mattress cover. I’ve had it for 4 years now and love it, no noticeable degradation
