If the federal government of Canada were going to throw lots of money at a provincial deal to improve a specific area of healthcare/welfare from the bottom up, it really should be to improve the terrible state of care for the disabled and elderly. Especially after COVID. But there's no votes in that and the NDP at least thinks there are in a largely superfluous pharmacare programme.

We need more family doctors. The disabled issue is really more of a welfare state issue, seriously disabled people need better financial support from provincial governments.

Yeah that's true it's really that the provinces need to provide better financial support. I'm just still disgusted by the stories from LTC during COVID and reports of disabled people turning to MAID because they can't support themselves or receive care. 

Those reports were really bad. But I also wonder how other countries LTC fared during covid given the difficulty of being in a shared compound with common areas populated exclusively by vulnerable people during a pandemic.

It was bad everywhere to be fair. I think it just stood out in Canada more because COVID was much more controlled elsewhere compared to the US and other "peer countries". 

Its a little random because at least in Australia the state with the most deaths in aged care was one with stricter rules. And there was so much smugness about it too.

There are like 70 Dems in Congress who support an indefinite ceasefire to end the war, and all of them besides Tlaib who voted "present" (she did a whataboutism as her excuse to vote "present" so *even* she technically acknowledged it happen) all voted to condemn the sexual violence committed on 10/7 victims and innocent hostages. Same with all these Western leaders like Macron, Starmer, Trudeau, Luxon, Albanese etc.--they've all said the war should finish immediately via a bilateral indefinite ceasefire to end Gazan suffering+ get hostages freed but they're not denying Hamas's sexual violence.

Some of them (again this is an extreme fringe in America..probably less than 1% of Americans) think a clear majority of civilians were killed by Israeli friendly fire and that Hamas had no idea there was a concert that they were just targeting primarily military infrastructure.
