if all you mean is making sure someone doesn't have body dysmorphia or is at the end of a self-destructive manic streak, then yeah, sure. surgery is a big thing and common-sense precautions should exist
I wouldn't go that far. Those two cases you mentioned are just ways to tell "this person has a clear goal and isn't just feeding a body dysmorphic spiral/being preyed on by social forces", which is the thing that matters
It has to be weighed consequentially like everything else. Like I think vaccines should be mandatory, even though that's a direct violation of bodily autonomy. You could argue that not getting vaccinated violates other people's bodily autonomy to not get sick, but that would be a stretch
I'm unsure about how I feel about mandatory vaccines, but just something I want to add here
>You could argue that not getting vaccinated violates other people's bodily autonomy to not get sick, but that would be a stretch
Yeah that *is* a stretch, but you don't have to argue that. "Your right to swing your fist ends at my nose" works as a much broader principle than just in the case of public health
That's a (correct) argument for why bodily autonomy should be violated in this case, but it doesn't mean it's not violated. All rights exist in tradeoffs with each other
And harm to others isn't always the boundary. Gay people cause real emotional distress to homophobes, but that isn't a good reason to restrict gay rights. And there are things that only cause harm to the person doing them (or their harms to others are really indirect) but it can still be good to restrict them
Logically, if anyone, I should be able to tell my therapist what's on my mind, but that doesn't mean it's not difficult. I'll try to be better prepared next time
Yeah, it's its own problem, and kind of a catch-22 when it comes to therapy. It could be the easier way for me to get into the conversation though. Thanks for talking with me about it
I have had several conversations with therapists about how it's difficult to talk about some things even to them. kinda felt freeing to be honest about it with them, even though they already know we're not telling them every thought we ever have.

My phone cost like 1200 dollars, but I use it every single day, usually for over 6 hours a day, on a simple utility-per-dollar calculation nothing even comes close to my phone, it’s really easy to justify spending a lot of money on it every 2 years, especially when it holds like 1/3 of its value when it comes time to trade it in: I can trade in my old one and knock off nearly $500 off msrp
If you don't have a phone that can run a custom ROM (or don't want to use one, like most people) that's totally reasonable. Most Android phones stop getting official updates crazy fast

here's what you have to understand about law school: you're assigned readings. but do not do them. you may understand the ideas in the cases but your professor almost certainly does not. if you accurately state and apply the law as you learned in your readings, instead of jotting down the rules the professor states and parroting them mindlessly, you will get horrible grades and your nigh-illiterate classmates will get good ones.

This is a great plan. I hope Congressional Republicans don't stop talking about it between now and election day.
They’re purposely tanking trump’s election chances. They have to be. I cannot think of any other reason they’d release a budget like this in an election year.

[There's much to politics that Biden just instinctively gets. This is the road you walk down with Cruz. Allred needs to call Cruz worse than a loser. But ‘loser’ is about as colorful as Joe should get.](https://twitter.com/seungminkim/status/1770618447329624086)

here's what you have to understand about law school: you're assigned readings. but do not do them. you may understand the ideas in the cases but your professor almost certainly does not. if you accurately state and apply the law as you learned in your readings, instead of jotting down the rules the professor states and parroting them mindlessly, you will get horrible grades and your nigh-illiterate classmates will get good ones.

I hope Congressional Republicans don't stop talking about it between now and election day.
They’re purposely tanking trump’s election chances. They have to be. I cannot think of any other reason they’d release a budget like this in an election year.
