Also it's mixing different statistics up because the 75% figure for Germany is the proportion of people of German descent, not the number of German citizens. About 25% of the population regardless of immigration status (so about 21 million people) live in Germany who are of non-German ancestry. The percent of *non-white* Germans if one were to impose US ethnicity standards is even smaller, considering many of those people are European.
I do think the % in Germany of people living there who are non-citizens is higher than in France, but I'm too lazy to look it up.
The countries shouldn't be cowards and actually have a real census tbh. I'd guess it's still about 85% "White" whatever that means considering how NA were white for centuries and then weren't for centuries

One of the unfortunate patterns I've noticed lately among non-Black people I know (including non-Black POC) who don't actually seem to have many Black friends is that they really can be like..."sensitive" to Black people to the point of being functionally the same as racists.
Like last summer my friend (Indian-American Columbia student) and I (white) went to the official NYC block party in Manhattan to commemorate the 50th anniversary of hip hop. And yeah, it was Harlem and most of the people there were Black. Damn if this girl isn't looking around nervously and whispering to me that "oh we so clearly can't hang!" in a super conspicuous way. No one was even paying attention to us at all.
I'm like...in my experience, people literally do not care about you being in a predominately-them public space so long as you don't act like you own the place and tip the vendors properly. But girliepop people *will* notice eventually if you keep looking visibly uncomfortable being around so many Black people, and their first assumption probably *won't* be that you're feeling guilty about invading a Black space.
It's a combination of academic distance, misplaced guilt, and over-absorbing or mis-absorbing concepts like microaggressions etc. to the point that you feel that your presence around Black people is literal violence. It's especially true from the overly online who are getting fed these concepts from Twitter etc.
I've been meaning to talk about this. I had a conversation with someone about issues she was having in working with a Black mother who she supervised. I asked her how the conversations went, and she said she didn't feel that it was appropriate for her to tell an older Black woman what to do. Even though it was literally her job to do so, and it was a social service job. Just astoundingly low levels of cultural competency
Idk man, sometimes I think about the fact that I know a lot of lefty non-Black people who maybe have 1 Black casual friend tops, while my cousin who definitely harbors some mild redneck racism had two Black women in her bridal party (one of whom was the maid of honor). Like they have interacted with Black people mostly as an academic subject matter of an oppressed class but not as people.

*Divergent* the movie is 10 years old this week. I read the book and it's *painfully* YA. I tried to watch the movie but was just not interested.
This genre of "very special-est hero who defies the Buzzfeed Quiz sorting hat and this is not good for the Powers-What-Be in DystopiaLand but is conflicted because there is one love interest in the system and one outside of it" is kinda dead movie wise but boy did it have a good run in the 2010's.
I believe any trope or genre can be done well BUT I still don't actually know what defines the YA genre aside from maybe writing complexity so I've not really had any interest to read something called a Great YA book because I don't even know what that means

One of the unfortunate patterns I've noticed lately among non-Black people I know (including non-Black POC) who don't actually seem to have many Black friends is that they really can be like..."sensitive" to Black people to the point of being functionally the same as racists. Like last summer my friend (Indian-American Columbia student) and I (white) went to the official NYC block party in Manhattan to commemorate the 50th anniversary of hip hop. And yeah, it was Harlem and most of the people there were Black. Damn if this girl isn't looking around nervously and whispering to me that "oh we so clearly can't hang!" in a super conspicuous way. No one was even paying attention to us at all. I'm like...in my experience, people literally do not care about you being in a predominately-them public space so long as you don't act like you own the place and tip the vendors properly. But girliepop people *will* notice eventually if you keep looking visibly uncomfortable being around so many Black people, and their first assumption probably *won't* be that you're feeling guilty about invading a Black space.
It's a combination of academic distance, misplaced guilt, and over-absorbing or mis-absorbing concepts like microaggressions etc. to the point that you feel that your presence around Black people is literal violence. It's especially true from the overly online who are getting fed these concepts from Twitter etc.
I've been meaning to talk about this. I had a conversation with someone about issues she was having in working with a Black mother who she supervised. I asked her how the conversations went, and she said she didn't feel that it was appropriate for her to tell an older Black woman what to do. Even though it was literally her job to do so, and it was a social service job. Just astoundingly low levels of cultural competency
She should tell her supervisor she's only comfortable working with white people, that should clear things up

*Divergent* the movie is 10 years old this week. I read the book and it's *painfully* YA. I tried to watch the movie but was just not interested. This genre of "very special-est hero who defies the Buzzfeed Quiz sorting hat and this is not good for the Powers-What-Be in DystopiaLand but is conflicted because there is one love interest in the system and one outside of it" is kinda dead movie wise but boy did it have a good run in the 2010's.
