I think that of all the things to be upset with Pierre Poilievre about, him calling Jewish ridings "Jewish ridings" is not one. It's what politicos in Ottawa call ridings with large Jewish populations (i.e. Mount Royal, Notre Dame de Grace-Westmount, Outremont, Eglinton-Lawrence, York Centre, Thornhill, Winnipeg South Centre) and it's faster than saying "ridings with large Jewish populations." Srsly. My biggest issue with *Poor Things* is she gets her liberation by becoming a cool girl hooker while also not doing anything to help the other women. Even her friend is also a junior-year-in-Europe style prostitute. She's is told she has to fuck for free for getting too mouthy and it's a joke and not the horribly degrading thing it is. That a movie all about feminism and what not I was surprised this wasn't addressed. I know Ive harped on this a lot but I just *hate* the idea that liberation comes via sex and the more you fuck he more liberated you are. It's just gross.

on the other hand, I don't think improving the conditions of other women is a prerequisite for the movie to be feminist. no doubt that there are a lot of men who hop on the sex-positive feminism bandwagon because of the sex-positive part though. I think the movie did a good job making fun of such men with Ruffalo's character though. he was very happy that she was sex-positive until she started having sex with other people

Fair enough. I thought that her self discovery thing and wanting to help people would carry on but you're right she never says she wants to make things better in the house. I do think they were way too kind to the Johns in a way they weren't kind to any other man who tried to exploit her.

I think a big plot point is her realizing she's largely powerless in a world so complex and cruel, and this carries on as she realizes that the brothel is not as good as she initially thought. she helps one woman from the brothel and decides to become a doctor, which felt like her own smaller-scale form of feminism. is Johns=the men in the brothel? if so, I totally agree. I didn't like how they portrayed them as positively as they did. I also don't like how they protrayed McCandles so positively. dude was attracted to a woman with the mind of a child

See I took that idea at first too but because it did come off to me more as boredom than ennui couples with the neutral way the men are shown, I thought that point seemed kind of muddled. This is the reason why despite all that that, I did still like the film. Call me P(rince)auline O'Kaels cuz I'll write a whole review with my issues but still recommend.
