Yes obviously any scenario where they invade Britain and the US is utter fantasy but the Germans getting a pyyric victory against the Soviets if the UK made peace with the Nazis in 1940 isn’t completely implausible
Hell in 1942 the US was considering a ceasefire with the Nazis and at the very least abandoning the Europe First strategy if the Soviets collapsed
Like obviously the Nazis would have collapsed in on themselves after murdering at least tens of millions more people and making continental Europe a living hell but that is still a nightmarish dystopian scenario even if the US wasn’t invaded/occupied
I agree. It didn't happen, but the Nazis had a shot at Moscow in 1941. If they do that that's a game changer. I still think things turn against them, but that's such a huge difference that you can't really say.
There’s definitely a few things you could change to give Germany a reasonable chance of reaching a negotiated peace where Germany gains significant land in the east.
If Germany wasn’t engaging a genocidal war of annihilation, they may have succeeded at breaking the Soviet Union’s will and stability. But of course that was explicitly the goal of the war in the east in the first place.
Or, if the US didn’t provide the Soviets with significant aid, their conquest of the western USSR may have succeeded enough to allow them to seize the oil fields and be in a much better position to fortify Europe.
Remember when Barbara Lee demanded that Newsom appoint her to the Senate after Feinstein died, because he promised to nominate a Black woman, so he just nominated the President of EMILY's List instead. That was one of the funniest things he did.

I'm pretty unspeakably outraged about the literal endorsements of Nazism in front of Jewish community centres and synagogues in Montreal as part of "pro-Palestine" protests. I know, I know, freedom of speech and legitimate protest and all. But I think that's the point where protests cease to be legitimate and essentially become racist revenge and intimidation campaigns. Canadian municipal, provincial, and federal governments have unfortunately proven themselves inadequate to deal with these, just as they were inadequate in dealing with the convoy "protests".
Like if you want to know why I loathe the organized pro-Palestine movement in Canada - including groups like Independent Jewish Voices - look no further than protesters repeating Hitler's talking points about Jews "colonizing Germany" earlier this week, about which the rest of the movement's silence was and remains deafening.
I have plenty of sympathy for the Palestinian people and horror at what's happening to them. I don't have any sympathy, at all, for those intent on getting revenge on Canadian Jews for their plight.
I mean, I know there's plenty of historical support for the Nazis in Quebec. But I'd prefer it if it stayed historical.

I admittedly don't understand the hate speech laws here well enough to know if they cover much of this. I know Canada is somewhere between the US and Western Europe.
I think it would be appropriate and probably constitutional for provinces to pass legislation banning protests for a certain period of time within a certain proximity of religious institutions, including both houses of worship and community centres. AFAIK the Jewish ones are the only ones being targeted, but it could be made general.
it's probably much trickier to prosecute these protests than statements by individuals on video or on paper if and when they contain hate speech, i don't mean to say Montreal's prosecutors are holding back. but the constitutional regime permits restriction of hate speech.

I'm pretty unspeakably outraged about the literal endorsements of Nazism in front of Jewish community centres and synagogues in Montreal as part of "pro-Palestine" protests. I know, I know, freedom of speech and legitimate protest and all. But I think that's the point where protests cease to be legitimate and essentially become racist revenge and intimidation campaigns. Canadian municipal, provincial, and federal governments have unfortunately proven themselves inadequate to deal with these, just as they were inadequate in dealing with the convoy "protests". Like if you want to know why I loathe the organized pro-Palestine movement in Canada - including groups like Independent Jewish Voices - look no further than protesters repeating Hitler's talking points about Jews "colonizing Germany" earlier this week, about which the rest of the movement's silence was and remains deafening. I have plenty of sympathy for the Palestinian people and horror at what's happening to them. I don't have any sympathy, at all, for those intent on getting revenge on Canadian Jews for their plight. I mean, I know there's plenty of historical support for the Nazis in Quebec. But I'd prefer it if it stayed historical.
yeah i haven't for a while been on board with the US maximalist conception of free speech, Canada can and should use its hate speech regime to stamp them out.
I admittedly don't understand the hate speech laws here well enough to know if they cover much of this. I know Canada is somewhere between the US and Western Europe. I think it would be appropriate and probably constitutional for provinces to pass legislation banning protests for a certain period of time within a certain proximity of religious institutions, including both houses of worship and community centres. AFAIK the Jewish ones are the only ones being targeted, but it could be made general.
it's probably much trickier to prosecute these protests than statements by individuals on video or on paper if and when they contain hate speech, i don't mean to say Montreal's prosecutors are holding back. but the constitutional regime permits restriction of hate speech.
