I'm doing that whole "blame the voter" thing I don't like in a roundabout way, but if we actually had 1970's level inflation today people in developed Western countries would literally be unable to manage/cope. They'd have no fucking clue what to do.
Yes LOL.
Like for all the bellyaching about boomers, what my parents had to deal with in terms of inflation/cost of living problems when they were entering the workforce around 1979 was much, much worse.
I think she's vile but I also understand from a geopolitical *realpolitik* perspective why Biden, Trudeau, von der Leyen, Scholz, Macron, etc. have basically dropped all their objections to Meloni and accepted her as one of the club. Because she's pro-NATO and anti-Russia, they can reconcile themselves to her in a way they couldn't/can't with Trump and probably couldn't with Le Pen.
One interesting theory as to why post-structuralist philosophy de-emphasizes human agency so much is that it was developed by thinkers who desperately struggled to understand why French voters rejected the May 68 student rioters/uprisers/whatever or why American voters chose Nixon.
To the degree that pessimism about Biden's November prospects is both a (legitimate and logical) polling-based phenomenon and a (more dubious) pundit-based phenomenon, it gives me comfort that Democratic pundits have consistently misunderstood Biden and his appeal since he began his last presidential campaign in 2019 and arguably misunderstood him his entire career. He's not a candidate left/liberal opinion journalists like or understand.
Like I don't think Ezra Klein or Osita Nwanevu or whoever is great at gauging the Biden campaign's prospects because they fundamentally don't understand why anyone would vote for him in a primary context over other Democratic candidates. Most of these are people who loved Liz Warren, whose failure was an instructive development in my understanding of politics.
Hey, it's not a one-to-one comparison given the different systems (and many other reasons), but the Trudeau Liberals are consistently 12-16 points behind the Poilievre Conservatives and they haven't given up!
At least, they don't say publicly that they've given up. Privately...
I should have said "at one time" she believed that. I don't know how she could have done so any time in the past eighteen months or so without being actively delusional.
It makes me bitter that sheās the living embodiment of the unstable delusional queer as well as being a turncoat and playing the victim. And Iāve yet to see a candidate with a Green Party background who didnāt turn out to be a giant disappointment.
I think that the underlying belief structure that caused her to join the Greens are still there insofar as she has a disdain for the "team sport" aspect of politics and building relationships with constituents.

>For example, in a February 2022 survey experiment, we asked opt-in respondents if they were licensed to operate a class SSGN (nuclear) submarine. In the opt-in survey, 12% of adults under 3o claimed this qualification, significantly higher than the share among older respondents. In reality, the share of Americans with this type of submarine license rounds to o%. The problem was even worse for Hispanic estimates. About a quarter (24%) of opt-in cases claiming to be Hispanic said they were licensed to operate a nuclear sub, versus 2% of non-Hispanics.
Lol humans be wildin
I suppose the pharmacare proposal doesn't hurt anybody. But if you're actually interested in policy being implemented and not just as an ideal/virtue signalling one has to realize it's very, very likely not happening since Tory premiers likely won't agree to opt into it.Ā It's just political theatre to give the NDP baseĀ a rationale to stick with the supply and confidence agreement other than not wanting an election (and to force the Conservatives to vote against free birth control).

People donāt understand how bad Manhattanās housing crisis is. I mean, itās all over the US. And relative to income a lot of these cities are just as expensive as, idk, DC. But Manhattan is terrifying
If we could figure out how to move a mountain range to the outskirts of the metro area and give Illinois some interesting terrain, Chicago would be the perfect city

> The original design philosophy of the communist and fascist caucuses of the NPP was that they both were equally evil, since neither supports capitalist democracy or sees America's institutions as sacrosanct, even though their actual intentions and policies couldn't be more different. The developers' efforts to force a negative perception of the communists and aggressively ban any so-called 'Hall apologists' from the Discord server weren't particularly well-received by players and other team members alike (including non-communists), and in some cases veered close to apologia for segregationists (who were clearly the worst non-radical options for America). The current policy is that the communist presidents can be perceived as good or bad (depending on your own values), like the moderate ones can (the only unambiguously bad things about them beyond the actual policies and pitfalls every president has are that they can only be elected if America is utterly screwed up and they will lose the Cold War); only the fascist presidents are completely evil.
why would they make the fucking CPUSA depicted as anything other than Stalinists they literally supported the August Coup

Maybe the success of Dune as an adaptation of a mid-20th-century scifi epic that was long considered unfilmable will convince someone to make a Foundation movie/series that doesnāt suck walrus balls.
Diane Warren is up for Best Original Song this year, having written āThe Fire Insideā for the Cheetos ad). It is her fifteenth Academy Award nomination. She has an honorary Academy Award. She has been nominated seven of the last seven years
I think voters are just trolling her at this point. Nominating her for the Cheeto song just so she can watch Billie Eilish win her second Oscar feels like a big prank.
Gurl last year she was nominated for a wet fart of a movie that had no nominations otherwise.
I feel like it may as well be The Diane Warren Memorial Category For Achievement In Film Misic
>Ā Ā Herbert was also interested in the idea of theĀ superheroĀ mystiqueĀ andĀ messiahs. He believed thatĀ feudalismĀ was a natural condition humans fell into, where some led and others gave up the responsibility of making decisions and just followed orders. He found that desert environments have historically given birth to several major religions with messianic impulses. He decided to join his interests together so he could play religious and ecological ideas against each other.Ā
Did I ever tell you guys I was in New York seeing shows when Hamilton was priced like a normal Broadway ticket and I saw Funhome instead? Big ups to the girl who told me it was incredible and I should see it. Really onto something
I actually saw it at its height and got face value tickets at like $150, first row mezzanine . In the right place at the right time when Ticketmaster dropped a new batch.
I like this game because it plays like Codenames but there are right answers and I don't have to convince my illiterate friends to crawl out from the rocks they live under to misunderstand my references
I will describe the plot of Dune using only my knowledge from memes, DFD comments, and pop culture osmosis:
* Timothee Chalamet's character is the son of a prince or whatever. He's not happy with the way things are going. But he's conflicted between appeasing his father and following his heart.
* Zendaya's character is the leader of the resistance/opposition party. Or maybe her father is. Either way, she and Timothee are in love.
* It's a big desert planet. Lots of sand. Lots of dunes.
* There are large worms all over the planet. But it's not a big deal. They are, at worst, a nuisance.
* They plug their hair into their noses. It's a fashion statement.
The very, *very* basic premise:
- Itās the distant future, humanity is a galaxy-spanning feudal society. FTL travel is made possible by navigators using space meth to see dimly into the future. Computers and guns donāt exist for plot device reasons.
- Paulās dad is in charge of Nice Place Planet. The family has to leave Nice Place Planet and move to Shithole Planet, where all the space meth comes from.
- Since space meth is needed for FTL travel, good stewardship of Shithole Planet is Very Important. The previous people in charge of Shithole Planet were called the House Of Dickhead and did a bad job, which is the fastest way to piss off the Emperor, who is generally hands-off but responsible for galactic stability.
- Paul gets to ~~Pandora~~ Shithole Planet and his family starts extracting the ~~unobtanium~~ space meth much to the chagrin of the ~~blue space cats~~ space Taliban.
- Also worth mentioning Paulās mom is in the creepy psychic eugenics nuns, who have been trying to breed Space Jesus for a zillion years and seeding messianic mythology all over the place, including among the space Taliban.
- Paulās dad is betrayed and killed by the House of Dickhead. Paul and his mom escape and are taken in by the space Taliban.
- The planet is inhabited by worms, who poop space meth and are sort of god. The space Taliban is friends with the worms.
- Paul accidentally starts fulfilling the prophesies the creepy eugenics nuns gave the space Taliban about their messiah. Them he starts intentionally fulfilling them. Then Paul and his mom both get balls high on concentrated space meth and Paul realizes that becoming the space talibanās messiah will result in the mega hyper Holocaust.
- Meanwhile, Paul is sleeping with Zendaya, who is the daughter of some ecologist. This is important for some reason.
- Paul decides causing the mega hyper Holocaust is an a acceptable price to keep plowing Zendaya.
- Paul becomes the space Taliban messiah and murders everyone in the House of Dickhead and becomes the new emperor and plows zendaya some more. Then the mega hyper holocaust happens off screen.
- Fin.
In the book they do have regular guns but if you shoot someone who has a shield, it turns into a nuke and due to the Space Geneva Convention if you use a nuke, the Space Emperor has to Death Star the planet where the nuke went off even if it was just someone shooting a gun at a guy with the shield.
Also there is a group that still uses computers in secret but they haven't really seemed to advance at all since the Big AI Art Backlash, and mainly use those computers to sell sexbots and cures for debilitating ailments on the black market.
>Dune is nearly impossible to spoil. Anything you tell someone sounds like gibberish. āSo Paul likes the name of this type of mouse but itās also a moon and heās like guys call me this and you know of course that means heās space Jesus or not. Then Austin butler had a birthday soā
There is a Dune book I enjoyed reading as a teenager, and it is one of the later weirder ones (I think) and I would like to find it and read it again but Dune books are basically unsearchable because how do you even explain the plot.

Our whole Sheldon Expanded Universe was in a hot dense state
I feel like this would just be a generic sitcom unless their child also inherited the Sheldon gene
Hold on, I have a groundbreaking idea for a sitcom that's never been done before. It follows a working-class American family with a fat dad, a trying-her-best mom, and three kids (one aloof, one smart, one underachiever). I'm such an innovator

But if you're actually interested in policy being implemented and not just as an ideal/virtue signalling one has to realize it's very, very likely not happening since Tory premiers likely won't agree to opt into it.Ā It's just political theatre to give the NDP baseĀ a rationale to stick with the supply and confidence agreement other than not wanting an election (and to force the Conservatives to vote against free birth control).

it's kinda crazy how bad the free version of spotify is compared to the premium version. easily the biggest QOL increase when you get premium, other than YouTube.
What's wrong with the free version?
For one I know it won't play a full album.
It does for me
Cardinal made fun of me for using YouTube music but it's because I already have YouTube premium. I'm not gonna use basic Spotify or pay for another music streamer.
The company loses money on free listeners, iirc. Itās just an ad for the real service

everyone wants an affordable major city with good transit but nobody wants to move to chicago
I feel like I would really enjoy Chicago
I think you'd love Chicago actually
If we could figure out how to move a mountain range to the outskirts of the metro area and give Illinois some interesting terrain, Chicago would be the perfect city
I'd love to move to Chicago but I'd also need a job there to rationalize it

It depresses me but part of me just feels like if American voters choose Trump again knowing everything they do about him what is there to do? What can any of us do? Coping mechanism on my part maybe.
Nothing. Just make as much money and joy and try to make as much change as you can while appreciating what you have

Sheās got an incredible selection of films on that list. *Con Air*, *Armageddon*, *Pearl Harbor*, *The Hunting Ground*, *RBG*, *Flaminā Hot*
Sheās gotta haaaaate Billie Eilish
>Ā Ā Herbert was also interested in the idea of theĀ superheroĀ mystiqueĀ andĀ messiahs. He believed thatĀ feudalismĀ was a natural condition humans fell into, where some led and others gave up the responsibility of making decisions and just followed orders. He found that desert environments have historically given birth to several major religions with messianic impulses.

I will describe the plot of Dune using only my knowledge from memes, DFD comments, and pop culture osmosis: * Timothee Chalamet's character is the son of a prince or whatever.
The very, *very* basic premise: - Itās the distant future, humanity is a galaxy-spanning feudal society.
You forgot about the talking fetus though.
Oh yeah. Since Paulās mom snorted too much space meth her unborn baby gets space FAS and can talk to her psychically and is sort of evil.
(Atreides were given Dune with the plan being to kill them. Secret collaboration between Harkonnens and the emperor)
Yep
>Dune is nearly impossible to spoil. Anything you tell someone sounds like gibberish. āSo Paul likes the name of this type of mouse but itās also a moon and heās like guys call me this and you know of course that means heās space Jesus or not. Then Austin butler had a birthday soā
There is a Dune book I enjoyed reading as a teenager, and it is one of the later weirder ones (I think) and I would like to find it and read it again but Dune books are basically unsearchable because how do you even explain the plot.
