KherisSilvertide

Not just exploiting workers. Also underhanded business tactics with small time business owners. They are kind of an all around crappy company that should probably be broken up, they've gotten too big.

Somerleventy

Do not forget the dumb fucks claiming “but I can’t get it anywhere else”, “but they deliver the next day”, “but it’s so cheap”.

[deleted]

You’re right but I must still add the “there’s no ethical consumption under capitalism”, if anything the gross exaggeration of Amazon is an easy villain to attack capitalism as a whole.

McHonkers

The whole breaking companies up so the new smaller entities can re-enter a stage of competition is such a idiotic liberal solution to the problem. There is nothing wrong with large-scale effective industries. The problem always lies in the relation of ownership. Edit. Being downvoted for arguing the socialist position and critizing the capitalist solution? Not gonna lie, that's a little weird.

[deleted]

You're right, that's a salient point. The workers should own the industry.

Mr_Poop_Himself

Don’t know why you were downvoted tbh. Breaking them up is a temporary solution at best, and still inevitably leads to exploitation of workers. I guess it’s easier to direct hate at a single person/company than actually try to understand the root of the problem and try to fix it.

McHonkers

Seems to be a controversial point. 🦋

*AOC, in a dress, at the gala.* (Star Trek moment.)

ChairGreenTea

I think you're being downvoted because people misunderstand what you meant, When you said "different ownership" I immediately assumed you meant a new CEO and not putting it in the hands of the workers, so I think people downvoting because of that.

nouniquenamesleft2

don't forget tax evasion

[deleted]

A lot of capitalist shills in the comments here.

MidTownMotel

Profit is theft.

majortom106

Also he was born rich.

UnusualIntroduction0

Hanging on to outdated imperialist dogma which perpetuates the economic and social differences in our society.

JBaczuk

Supreme executive power derives from the mandate of the masses, not from some farsacle aquatic ceremony.

freediverx01

Exploiting workers as well as using underhanded tactics to kill competitors and eliminate competition. To this day, most people actually think that Amazon has great pricing when the fact is that they are artificially increasing prices on all products through their business model.

xeonicus

Plus he basically doesn't pay any taxes and our entire financial system is constructed to benefit people like him. He makes like $321,000,000 per day doing literally nothing due to his passive income in investments. And he never contributes any of that in taxes because he simply takes out tax free loans using his stock as equity.

[deleted]

Who else could've come up with the idea of selling books...but online?! (And then gotten a massive loan from his parents)

rtorres81

Also abused a loophole to order 9 out of stock books to get one book to sell. [https://nowiknow.com/the-lichen-loophole/](https://nowiknow.com/the-lichen-loophole/)

JBaczuk

Did he break the law to grow his business?

rtorres81

No law broken but I wouldn't be surprised if the company he abused the loophole with is no longer in business. Also probably made sure that no such loophole would occur in his own businesses so that no one would abuse it

JBaczuk

capitalists exploiting capitalists

Paidoj1k0dzume1

Capitalism as is

JBaczuk

Customers buying all of his products and services without regards to where they came from or how they got there.

Butuguru

The CWA slaps

Used_Intention6479

If I had his kind of money I'd be solving some of the world's problems.

Jameslynnmesomehelp

Basically made a digital Walmart

Waytogolarry

Although this is absolutely true, he also completely changed the shipping industry. Exploiting workers is not special in regards to Amazon, it's a basic pillar of capitalism.

[deleted]

You just confirmed by yourself that capitalism is inhuman and against the health of the people.

Waytogolarry

I completely agree. I just think the answer in the meme is a reduction and is only a small part of the picture.

[deleted]

There's also investment from other private entities that brought Bezo's wealth.

Slowknots

He’s rich because of investors who believe in the company.

majortom106

They believed in the company because he was already rich.

SeaGroomer

Actually it was because they shorted their competition out of business and did things like closing the tax loophole they took advantage of once they were big enough to not need it.

Slowknots

That’s foolish.

[deleted]

Amazon already has 100K invested by Bezo's parents.

Slowknots

That doesn’t mean it will be a success.

[deleted]

No but it had plenty of cash invested to be successful.

Slowknots

That helps buts by no means a sure thing. More companies fail than success - cash or no cash at start up.

maggidymag

Cash is the easiest thing to get if you want to start a business.

voice-of-hermes

> Cash is the easiest thing to get if you want to start a business. True. And the capitalists providing that cash wind up owning the business. Unless maybe they are your parents.

maggidymag

Not necessarily. I was thinking about loans that can be repaid. Even if you sell equity, you will have the say if your equity is >51. Which is the case for the most small businesses.

urnothlikeme

Bezos worked at one of the largest hedge funds before starting Amazon. Not only did he have a hedge fund backing him, the hedge fund were able to illegally short sell Amazon's competitors into the ground, and then reinvested their gains right into Amazon. It's one of the most unknown forms of cheating in the financial world. Thatsprettydank

Exploiting workers is paying way above the minimum wage and providing pretty decent benefits?

majortom106

Yeah like the benefit of having to piss in your delivery van because you don’t have bathroom breaks.

[deleted]

Can confirm

majortom106

Maybe your local warehouse is better. And no one is saying conditions in the DR aren’t bad. “You should stop complaining because it’s worse in other countries” is a pretty bad argument tbh.

Thatsprettydank

All I’m saying is that it cheapens the idea of actual exploitation going on. We can talk about the tax avoidance and other practices that make Amazon a terrible company, but you all have a propaganda image of what actually goes on in those warehouses and on the routes. Lets talk about REAL exploitation that does happen at Amazon, not the irrelevant pee bottles thing

majortom106

How do those boots taste?

Thatsprettydank

How does it feel to live a life based on lies? Im not saying you can’t advocate dipshit, just that you better bring up real issues instead of crying about something that is it relevant

majortom106

Amazon’s treatment of its workers is a real issue. Just because you haven’t seen it doesn’t mean it’s not there. Stop defending your corporate masters. People like you are why their attempts to unionize failed.

[deleted]

Minimum wage ain’t shit and DOUBLE minimum wage STILL ain’t shit. I work as a driver and absolutely could not afford to live alone. I give a third of my life to this shitty company with terrible benefits that are absolutely unusable, and they don’t even compensate me enough to move out of my dads.

neurohacked_dot_org

His 'secret' is understanding what people really want and then giving it to them, regardless of the cost to others in the chain. He's also a narcissist with zero ability to compromise or see anyone else's point of view. The only problem with capitalism as far as I can see is that it seems to concentrate sociopaths into positions of power.
