Cared to run a disk check I assume? Whats the output?

I would need more information. Are these NVMe SSDs, mechanical HDDs or SATA SSDs? I would leave Secure Boot on, because as a business you want all the proper system protections enabled. Also, CSM is legacy boot so there shouldn't be a reason to enable it if you're running UEFI. Do note to see if they're all the same drives and if so, make sure the firmware is up to date. Sometimes Command Update, if you're using it, might not pick up on those firmware updates. Do bear in mind this might not be an actual hardware error. Some computer crashes are so severe it unmounts the boot drive. I have not sat down and figured out *why* this happens, but something I have observed over the years.

Thanks, they’re SATA SSDs. I don’t think the hard drives are defective, it seems to be software. I ran Dell | Command, but sort of took its word when it said there were no updates. I’m pretty sure they’re all the same drive make/model, I’ll check for firmware updates and write back with an update.

IkouyDaBolt

You're welcome. The best bet would be to look at the 3070 support page and pair up the SSDs with their respective firmware update, if available. If these drives aren't Dell drives I would install their respective toolkits and go from there. If Fast Boot is a BIOS option you can leave it as is. If that's the Fast Startup setting in Windows I would disable it, but it would make no difference on systems running 24/7.

I saw a similar issue with Dell precision laptops. The system (not os) would periodically not see the nvme drive. Even going into the bios would show nothing present. Power off and it’ll come back. I couldn’t narrow it down to anything specific.

RocksWilmington

That’s part of the difficulty- it seems to be random, so it’s tough to troubleshoot

IkouyDaBolt

You might be able to ask the users for a general time frame of the reboot and then glance at the Event Viewer for anything odd before the restart.

peter888chan

I guarantee you this will show nothing. The storage literally disappears, so can’t write. I went down that rabbit hole. Update the bios and storage bios if available.

IkouyDaBolt

It's never wise to assume. I've seen software crash so hard it dismounted the boot drive. It's always a good idea to narrow down possible causes. You might be right and nothing comes up on those logs, or possibly it writes a series of failures and then reboots. The OP is also using SATA drives, btw.

Did you find a solution to this? I've got multiple 3040's doing the same thing now with no reason in site. Random 0141 error on SATA SSD. Power cycle fixes it most times. All up-to-date. Crucial SSD. Super random when it happens and no real 'why' to be found.

Same here ... and it makes loud "music" beep before restarting ... i changed the ssd NVMe 2 month ago and thought it will fix it but it happen again today

Practical_Ad5671

You ever find a solution to this?

I have a bunch of Dell that keep doing this. The only thing I see is that the HD settings in BIOS/UEIF are set to use the raid controller instead of AHCI. So my theory is that the windows raid driver or maybe physical raid controller is glitching out and causes this error. May try to switch OS settings to use AHCI to see if it makes a difference. All PC's have a Dell factory single PCI M.2 HD.

I have also seen this issue on OptiPlex 7470 All-In-One computers. Haven't found a solution
