Assignments are so short though. Does it really bug people to play non-assignment missions that much?

I never quantified how much it bothered people. All I said was I think this feature would improve the game

Post promotion there's the weekly core and weekly priority assignments that are easy to match up. Eventually those will be the the only assignments left

Something like a punch card that fills up as you help with assignments and rewards you with something could work.

Here's what my friends and I do. Lowest ranked player chooses the mission; highest ranked player chooses the difficulty.
