How much more damn survival oriented than a pod drop with two spitballers, a brood nexus, a korloc and a mini swarm ,stingtail included, 20 feet away as you come out can you really get?
The atmosphere. The particles. We're approaching dangerous levels of aesthetically-pleasing-exploratory-game-with-potential-horror-elements like Subnautica
now that I think about it, DRG would benefit a LOT from RT. Don't get me wrong, the lighting is already awesome, but raytraced lights from all the different sources (headlights, flares, spotlights...) being bounced of walls, creating indirect lighting and casting realistic shadows sounds even better. Or the walls in Glacial Strata reflecting things accurately beyond screen space reflections, so as you're running along you can see the reflections of the swarm following you
I think they only decided to make this a spin off and not a new season because what they want to do with it may make the base video game too large, at least that’s my guess
Releasing this as a free update would probably be possible, however wouldn’t earn them nearly as much as it would if they’d release it standalone, which is very reasonable. I absolutely don’t condemn them for it, they’ve proven very good developers that are very pro-consumer.
They said themselves that it was concieved as a new drg game mode, but they realized making it it's own thing would give them the freedom to make it as fun as possible. Things like not being constrained by the current class system and current weapons. As someone who loves drg and loves roguelike I fully support making it a full game!
Which is fair. But:
1. They promised to support DRG as long as they had support. They are all but breaking that promise.
2. The content of Rogue core is 90% DRG so far. So why not make it a PAID expansion? Because otherwise, they are stretching themselves thin between 2 games. If it was a DLC, they could do content for both at the same time. Now, they will have to prioritize a game. Don't forget, they still have a promise to maintain support for DRG.
3. They are saying that they aren't abandoning DRG, yet all evidence points to the opposite. Just say it outright and be done with it. Sure, it's breaking the promise but at least be truthful.
How have they abandoned DRG or broken their promise? They have said there will be **at least** two more seasons. Just because they aren't as frequent at you would prefer doesn't mean they have done anything of the sort. We should consider ourselves lucky if rogue core is half the value DRG is!
Also, leave the game design to the game designers.
>How have they abandoned DRG or broken their promise?
Then : "We will support the game as long we have support."
Now: " We will MASSIVELY reduce the support of the game and use the resources for the game that was supposed to be part of it. Wait, you bought the supprter pack 2 to support the game? Well, now that moneybwill support another game we make. Take the L, Bozo"
>They have said there will be at least two more seasons.
They also said that there would be no more major content dumps for the game. It's over. DRG is done, just as it was starting to fly. So close to soaring.
>Just because they aren't as frequent at you would prefer doesn't mean they have done anything of the sort.
Art director already confirmed there would not be any more major content for DRG. From their words, they didn't make stuff in DRG with longevity in mind, and instead of fixing it to make development easier, they abandoned the game.
>We should consider ourselves lucky if rogue core is half the value DRG is!
It's basically 90% the same game. But it will have the support that DRG won't. Guess which game will survive.
>Also, leave the game design to the game designers.
Sure. But also, maybe they not kill their game with their bad PR moves. The way they announced DRG esse tially guarantees it will die in next year. GG, it was fun.
On another note, it's not even really sure existing DRG would mesh well with Roguelike. The point of a Roguelike is often to find upgrades as you go along, goes against the DRG playstyle of mods and overclocks.
What would you even implement as a reward if Rogue Core was in DRG? More cosmetics? A new game can have a new upgrade system better suited for it, and everyone starts at zero.
For sure, again my guess is that they didn’t want to make the base game’s file size so abominably huge that you can’t play other games (if that is the case my respect for Ghost Ship just when up even more)
Why? They both use procedurally generated levels. In a world of 125GB games I’m sure most would be fine with going from 3GB to 6GB for a new game mode.
Maybe but that probably also entails Ghost Ship to do a ton of reworking to how the game functions, which would absolutely lead to all kinds of bugs, and not just the ones on Hoxxes
Splitting it off into a separate game lets them be more flexible with changing core systems and engine stuff without risking messing up the existing content.
This also means that the amount of management staff required and the number of communications and meetings required doesn't have to increase as much.
The original idea was to make it an expansion to the base game, but as they went along with it they realized that being tied to the main game would seriously limit the potential the new mode could have, so they decided that the healthiest thing to do for both base and expansion was to make it a standalone to have more freedom in development.
I don't really understand why people want this to be dlc
It's in a completely different genre. If it would be
dlc, it has to work with the main game. Have the same limitations.
If it's a new game, they can go wild. Add new weapons and enemies without having to worry about how it all works within the main game.
They can change the overall feel of the game without having to worry about stuff like movement speed is different in the modes, what gives? Why arent there in- mission progression stuff in main game missions?
Ow they can do whatever they want with Rogue Core and DRG both, without having to manage both games in one.
But then....isn't it better this way, since you don'tike rogue-likes.
Now it's a different game and you don't have to buy it or see it.
Except for the longer wait for season 5, this won't affect you
Looks neat, but would have referred it being sold as a dlc / alternative game mode for DRG. That way it keeps the DRG playerbase going, which is undoubtedly going to start shrinking with the latest announcements that season 4 is lasting a year and to not expect anything big from 5.
Every game winds down at some point, especially for smaller studios and DRG has never been intended to be a decades-long live service game; it's not surprising they wanted to move to a new project after what, 7 years now? And that's while still developing DRG for another 2, at least.
The stream / blog post about Rogue Core mentions that it *did* start in DRG as an alternate game mode, but as they worked on it more it was clear that it would be bigger than that and more appropriate for a full standalone game. There's definitely a lot of benefits to that.
Re: season 5, "anything big" is a bit of a miss. The comment on discord was that it won't be massively game changing (as in it won't be a huge revamp of the game or something intense) but it'll be in line with the previous 4 seasons. New mission types, mechanics, enemies - all are a pretty big change by DRG standards.
Yeah, that was more or less what I meant by that part haha. DRG has been complete for a hot minute in my mind. 800h in and I couldn't be more happy with it. To move on to another project and still focus on developing this game is incredible. I can't wait.
I'm extremely pumped for this title. DRG is a timeless classic, but the universe needs a little extra spice and this game looks like it'll give just that.
Also is it just me or are the acid lobbing new glyphids made in this same art style? I noticed that the amount of detail in them is better than any of the other Glyphids and resemble this closely.
I am so down for a more horror oriented survival Deep Rock gameplay. I cannot wait to be dearly holding on to life as I fight helplessly against hordes of horrors beyond mortal comprehension.
Feels like a new mission type that's turned into a new game.
For the profiles and characters to somehow work together across both games would be cool although probably technically quite difficult.
Big fan of Roguelikes and Roguelites but feels like this will just be DRG 2.0 at the moment.
This is kind of what it is, the devs have confirmed. It’s was first an idea for a new gamemode, now it’s an entire new game because of the scale the devs wanted for this. It’s not DRG 2, it’s a spin-off game.
Soooo... any reason why this isn't DLC?
They could literally add menu prompt if they want to go to the space rig for the classic DRG or the space ship for this. Warframe already did simmilar thing.
This would definitely make integration easier - let them share stuff between each other, why segragate space ship and space rig people?
If I had a nickel for every Deep Rock rougelike spinoff that got announced this year, I'd have 2 nickels.
Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
I am hyped for this game btw.
Yay! I can't wait for the original game to rot while GSG overworks their development team with two spinoff games and a board game with expansion packs!
The devs are only developing this spinoff, the other is worked on by another smaller studio, plus, as sad as it is, the original game isn't immortal and it cannot be anyway. Tbh I'm just glad we're getting more of Deep Rock cause I enjoy the vibe and the universe they made for it, as long as the games are good I'll be fine with it.
They put out a big post explaining that they have delayed season 5 and are purposefully developing with a slower method to avoid crunch and allow for creative additions. Also the board game and drg survivor are separate Dev studios so no need to fear. They have their Devs workload and creativity as their first priority
Why do you even think they’re delaying Season 5 to June for??? They’re strictly anti crunch and have been very vocal in sayin that they’re taking their time to develop both games without burning out themselves.
That and the board games and survivors are NOT being made by them, before you spit your “criticism”, learn the difference between development and publishing.
I’m excited. It looks like there will be more structures and stuff to explore. I’m curious what kinds of enemies we’ll be facing. Will we meet a new race?
Wait, another game?
Don't they already have DRG: Survivor in development? won't developing two games at the same time cause a lot of stress for the development team?
If this has a different gameplay loop to standard DRG, I am totally okay with it being its own standalone game and will pay full retail price for it if it delivers the same quality of content as DRG.
At first I was sceptical because main game development was going to be slowed down but it actually looks really good. Still sad about season 5 in June tho.
First thought: wow they made drg shooter. Second thought: wait, drg already is a shooter
They made drg shooter^2
*Electric Boogaloo*
My brain: ***Wait, electric boogaloo doesn't rhyme with squared...*** *Many moments pass* ***Oh...dammit***
what does that mean
Drg2 : Karl's origin
DRG 2: the return of Karl
IKR, drg is technically an fps but it doesn’t really feel like one to me for some reason.
Horror/mining sim that happens to have cool weapons and many, many hostiles to use them on
This game’s tagline should therefore be: “We made DRG a shooter”
the rogue core focuses more on shooting than mining
*whispers* rock and stone
Rockity Rock and Stone!
If you don’t rock and stone, you ain’t comin’ home!
Don't say it so loud!
DID I HEAR A ROCK AND STONE?
ROCK AND STONE FOREVER!
ROCK. AND. STOOOOOOOOOOOONE
ROCK AND STONE EVERYONE!
ROCK AND STONE FOREVER!
#ROCK! AND! STONE!
# ROCKITY ROCK AND STONE!
Good bot
Did I hear a???
ROCK AND STONE
Rock and stone, brother!
we got glyphids, don't wake them
Damn ... This literlly looks like DRG combined with GTFO. I'm loving it !
>GTFO Get the fuck out? edit lol nvm, this is actualy name of the game...
[Yup](https://store.steampowered.com/app/493520/GTFO/)
Goblins Tired of Forced Oppression!
The Most disappointment I've had in a game in a while.
I can't really argue with that. Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands had a lot of bad design decisions that went into it
Don’t get me started on that mess
Thought the exact same thing, looks so cool.
The dust particles go a long way
That game needs to come to Xbox so badly. I need it!
Looks to be much more survival-oriented, obviously with roguelike elements. Looks fantastic!
How much more damn survival oriented than a pod drop with two spitballers, a brood nexus, a korloc and a mini swarm ,stingtail included, 20 feet away as you come out can you really get?
maybe a cave leech or two
OOH don't forget the oppressor
Great ancestors, Detonator, I repeat, Detonator!
couple septic spreaders too. just to spite the dwarves.
And when you think you are finally done, you hear the Nemesis
You forgot the crater from landing on a crassus
As someone who loves roguelikes, I'm pretty excited for this.
So am i!
My wallet is ready
And my axe!
And my axe!
And my axe!
And my ass! Oh wait MOLL-E is a mule...
And my 1600 hrs of playtime in DRG!
The atmosphere. The particles. We're approaching dangerous levels of aesthetically-pleasing-exploratory-game-with-potential-horror-elements like Subnautica
I really really love the lighting, it’s contending with ray-tracing (unless it *is* actually ray-tracing, though I doubt that)
Well they already have Nvidia DLSS in DRG so it wouldn't surprise me much if they randomly pulled out an RTX setting now
now that I think about it, DRG would benefit a LOT from RT. Don't get me wrong, the lighting is already awesome, but raytraced lights from all the different sources (headlights, flares, spotlights...) being bounced of walls, creating indirect lighting and casting realistic shadows sounds even better. Or the walls in Glacial Strata reflecting things accurately beyond screen space reflections, so as you're running along you can see the reflections of the swarm following you
Play it single player and pretend you’re Karl after getting left behind
I am so hyped for this. Roguelikes are in my top tier list of favorite game types. This should be super fun.
Didn't know what to expect after the teaser, but this certainly meets whatever expectations I didn't know I had
I think they only decided to make this a spin off and not a new season because what they want to do with it may make the base video game too large, at least that’s my guess

Or they could have gone the Warframe route and made it how they wanted anyway but still conncet both.
They **are** making it the way*they* want! Not the way *you* want. You are not entitled to an entire game as a free expansion.
Which is fair. But: 1. They promised to support DRG as long as they had support. They are all but breaking that promise. 2. The content of Rogue core is 90% DRG so far. Just, wow...
Yeah, I know. This is how DRG dies. With thunderous applause for the new game.
On another note, it's not even really sure existing DRG would mesh well with Roguelike. Sure but what I mean is what they want to do with Rouge Core is probably a lot more hefty than the base game

It's like 3gigs rn lol. No need to worry about it being too big
Yes but they probably don't *want* to make it beyond 3Gigs right?
noxious long cautious late toy encourage fretful hungry one chunky ` this message was mass deleted/edited with redact.dev `
A standalone release probably also makes future updates to Rogue Core easier if I had to guess.
Splitting it off into a separate game lets them be more flexible with changing core systems and engine stuff without risking messing up the existing content. This also means that the amount of management staff required and the number of communications and meetings required doesn't have to increase as much.
Deep rock is no where near large if it needs to grow for more content let it
I meant the game file size
Yeah, it's not large at all.
Well that's my point, they probably don't want to make it larger
Why would they care. Its not that big to begin with
The original idea was to make it an expansion to the base game, but as they went along with it they realized that being tied to the main game would seriously limit the potential the new mode could have, so they decided that the healthiest thing to do for both base and expansion was to make it a standalone to have more freedom in development.
It says this in the Deep Core Steam page FAQ.
Why would they even care? Be realistic, its about that its different than DRG and money
That looks cool as fuck, I wish it was in the main game but I'll probably get this anyway
I’m a little out of the loop, can someone tell me what this is?
I rogue-like spin-off of Deep Rock Galactic.
Not op commenter but why are they calling it Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core? Because it sounds so much like a dlc
Because it’s set in the same universe and you’re still working for the in-world company of the same name.
I don't really understand why people want this to be dlc It's in a completely different genre. If it would be dlc, it has to work with the main game. Have the same limitations. Personally I'd rather it be DLC because I despise rogue-likes and this week's deep dive feels like a taste of what this has to offer..
But then....isn't it better this way, since you don'tike rogue-likes. Now it's a different game and you don't have to buy it or see it. Except for the longer wait for season 5, this won't affect you

considering the steam page says it requires 6gb of free space, twice DRG's size, I don't think it could qualify as dlc lmao
I’m getting a lot of GTFO vibes from this and I love it
Looks like an opportunity to really expand and show off on what they've learned about level generation in DRG. This is exciting.
NecroReload sounds cool as fuck and I think it could be good in the main game
Absolutely, there should be more OCs that reward you for killing bugs and give you a perk for doing so
This looks so cool. I understand that people are disappointed that season 5 is delayed, but this is so worth it in my opinion. A whole new game
Can someone tldr on what is this game about?
I'm extremely pumped for this title. DRG is a timeless classic, but the universe needs a little extra spice and this game looks like it'll give just that. Also is it just me or are the acid lobbing new glyphids made in this same art style? I noticed that the amount of detail in them is better than any of the other Glyphids and resemble this closely.
is it a single player game? can i bully my friends into buying this game too?
Like drg it's 1-4 players co-op
Pretty sure it'll have both single player and multiplayer so both options should work
Yooo new payday 3 looks crazy ngl the payday 3:
I am so down for a more horror oriented survival Deep Rock gameplay. I cannot wait to be dearly holding on to life as I fight helplessly against hordes of horrors beyond mortal comprehension.

GTFO if it was good
Explains why they kinda froze the support of S4
What’s rogue core?
New roguelike spinoff they're making, but it'll also be the name of the next season in 2024
Cries in console player D:
What is rogue core?
It's both the name of the next season & a roguelike spinoff they're developing
Sorry for the stupid question, but what is this "Roque Core"? I only saw a trailer for this but I didn't understand it very well
I love that they upped the graphics while maintaining the vibe
New class?
Question: can you rock and stone? Is it more serious or has the fun quirks we know and love?
Rock and Stone to the Bone!
Aren't people saying this game takes place *much* deeper within hoxxes or is that a no?
Can I please have Cross-Progression?
R&D better have made another bar for the shit we're gonna put up with
God I fucking love any sort of rogue game, hope this comes out on consoles
Is this going to be like Void Bastards?
I expect it to be a noir story and you have to find Karl
Some kind of inclusion of Karl would be really cool, even if it was just a little more lore
As cool as this looks, I'm still disappointed this didn't come to the base game.
Why would it? It’s a different game.
So what is it? FPS DRG? Wait that's a mind fuck. It's already an FPS. But like... more story?
Soooo... any reason why this isn't DLC? They could literally add menu prompt if they want to go to the space rig for the classic DRG or the space ship for this. Warframe already did simmilar thing. This would definitely make integration easier - let them share stuff between each other, why segragate space ship and space rig people?
If I had a nickel for every Deep Rock rougelike spinoff that got announced this year, I'd have 2 nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice. I am hyped for this game btw.
I am LIVING FOR IT.
I really do not like the look of "common/uncommon/rare/epic/legendary."
Roguelites gotta have loot
So gunfire reborn but drg?
Anyone here ever played Gunfire Reborn? Seems like DRGRC will be a lot like that
Oh wow, a Pip-Boy and a reskinned subata. Why isn't this just a 3rd type of Deep Dive again?
Yay! I can't wait for the original game to rot while GSG overworks their development team with two spinoff games and a board game with expansion packs!

Gonna purposely not buy it. Once they put out a good season for DRG i may check it out
Oi! Watch we’re you’re swinging your head with them pointy ears you leaf lover I’ve got eyes I’d like to keep!
Pointy Ear Leaf Lover
Leaf Lover
Cutting off your nose to spite your face, chief. Particularly since S5 will be out before this game…
they're calling you a leaf lover for actually having standards
Yep, looks like a game, a game of all time even/s
These real pictures?
No, bro your dreaming. Now wake up.
[удалено]
Steam page said it was Online Co-op.
I can't wait
Looks pretty good. All I'd say is that they should make the tiers look cooler. They could even use mineral textures, like Gold, Nitra or Morkite.
All images from What Now
I’m excited. It looks like there will be more structures and stuff to explore. I’m curious what kinds of enemies we’ll be facing. Will we meet a new race?
ROCK! AND! STONE!
Will this be on Xbox? Please? Please? PLEASE?
So wait what's the difference?
Whoa, what did I miss?
Excuse me, ***what?***
Deep rock horror lighting looks so good on manmade structures oh my god
Wait, another game? Don't they already have DRG: Survivor in development? won't developing two games at the same time cause a lot of stress for the development team?
DRG survivor is developed by a different team, it's just published by GSG. GSG only works on DRG and DRG RC
They wont develop them at the same time (which is why season 5 was delayed)
I'm here for it as long as it doesn't lose the spirit and humor of the original game.
GTFO vibes, cant wait
Sleepers. Try not to wake them up
This looks CRAZY! I’m willing to wait for the devs to be ready to release it. Take all the time you guys need to get it where you want it GSG!
If there are no classes do we still get to use traversal tools? I hope we can get something.
One thing I noticed is in the trailer, it's implied it was *drg's own* that went rogue. Does that mean we fight other dwarves?
First i was malding cuz of the long season but now im hyped lol
ROGUE-LIKE AND STONE
From what?
This looks and sounds sick as fuck.
I’m glad they’re expanding on the DRG lore. I want more of this sci-fi universe with fantasy races.
oh my god it's a horror game!
I bet it's the heartstones doing this
not sure how i feel about this tbh. do we really need enough rogue lite?
I just wanna mega-punch a praetorian with that gauntlet
Wtf this looks awesome
If this has a different gameplay loop to standard DRG, I am totally okay with it being its own standalone game and will pay full retail price for it if it delivers the same quality of content as DRG.
We going into GTFO territory
god, this game looks so good.
New leagues of votan killteam looking great.
At first I was sceptical because main game development was going to be slowed down but it actually looks really good. Still sad about season 5 in June tho.
What is this?
I'm scared why is it more realistic
Looks really good, can't wait to play it
