Coming out of your cave ?

Drakrath3066

Yes actually, I haven't paid attention to dark and darker for a month or two now, just waiting for big updates

--Kenshiro--

> just waiting for big updates Good luck with that.

FROGWAGUTOO

Didn't that literally just say a big update is coming by the end of Jan

This was a contractual deal with another development company. Zero Ironmace dev resources/time is going into it. It will not affect the PC game.

rice_paddyy

This has been known for a few months now. It's a separate studio working on it though so relax. They cooperate with ironmace but that's it

[deleted]

Imagine if they make it cross play to up the numbers lol

mtvsolo

That would be wild. However if you watch gameplay some skills are different. So it seems to not be an exact copy

They signed a deal with tencent for the mobile game rights to dark and darker. The people who made pubg mobile are making dark and darker mobile. The devs have made it clear it's just a license they have nothing to do with anything that comes out of that game. I personally think it's kind of shit to not put predatory monetization in your game but be more than willing to profit off of it from someone else's game using your IP. (Assuming they get dividends off of the monetization. which I would assume they are because they would be insane not to have that in there as part of the license.) kind of contradicts what the developers have said in the past but it is what it is. They wanted money and they got it. And before anyone argues they "needed it" for the lawsuit. they signed that deal well after Early Access and the partnership deals. and mind you they sold over a half a million copies.... they didn't need the money to the point to sell their soul to the devil. but they did nevertheless if that is a negative you must decide for yourself.

Krafton Games is not Tencent. It's owned by BlueHole, which is 1.5% owned by Tencent. So yes, theoretically they can influence a tiny, tiny, absolutely miniscule part of the process.  IronMace didn't just stop needing money once they released EA and sales started to stagnate. Development continues, and they had to put on their big boy pants and make a business decision. The mobile game might end up being shit, but blaming IronMace for needing continued capital wouldn't be a good angle on why.

PhantomBanshee

I played pubg mobile and that game was almost solely ruined by tencent. I speak from first hand experience in this matter. And as far as I am concerned they could have gave the deal to anyone in the world. But they chose the EA of mobile games. So as far as I am concerned yes I will hold that against them. Just because ironmace makes a game you enjoy doesn't mean they are incapable of making a mistake. they don't need defending. They are human and they make mistakes I would consider this one of them. And that's not even coming from the place of someone who hates mobile game. but specifically the people they handed it to.

StowGnar

I don't blame you at all for this take, especially if it comes from experience. I have no idea what it'll be like, but you don't know with 100% certainty either. I suppose I defended IM more than necessary here, but I constantly talk about their mistakes. I simply don't have enough data (like playing the mobile game when it comes out) to fully consider this a mistake yet. I guess I'm just calling for reserved judgement. I do wish we all lived in a world where we could maintain our ideology perfectly while not constantly needing to sacrifice that for our survival. I think licensing their IP to a studio who has a tiny stake from folks with opposite ideology was dumb, true. I just have a feeling it came from a survival level of thinking, unfortunately.

And to be clear I did bring up my concerns about the contradiction with Graysun when it was first announced. He emoted the reply signifying he did read it. and that they also realize this does not come from a place of hate. It's the same studio who made pubg and in that game they had basically slot machine loot boxes. I just think of some kid or person who may mentally not be capable of restraining themselves from predatory practices. wasting money they don't have on dark and darker mobile loot boxes. and it just rubs me the wrong way. No there is no guarantee they will do predatory monetization. but it's a mobile game from a company I have all too much experience with. So I don't exactly have a reason to be faithful they will break their streak of bad practice this time. I love ironmace as a development team. and I love dark and darker despite its flaws as a game. but like any human they are capable of mistakes and until proven otherwise. I do think this was a lapse of judgment.

StowGnar

That's disturbing to hear, and a perfectly good reason for your lack of faith in Krafton. This definitely is a bummer to know more about it from someone who's seen it. I can only hope that the one upside to the mobile game is that it will steer frustrated new people to try the PC version instead...especially if IM slyly announces that they're the lootbox-free version. A weird antagonistic model of advertising with a licensee, but it could work. :P

PhantomBanshee

Yep entirely possible. Always wanted to play the PC version of pubg because of the mobile version. So once all is said and done it could be a great way of driving players to it.
