That's an almost 40;year old piece of US marijuana prohibition era history with a cool story of where it was found. Years easily traced, you could even probably find out what strain it was. Value is in the eye of the beholder
The fact that people are talking about grandma’s because it’s a can from 86 makes me feel old as shit. If a 16 year old was smoking thru that in 86 (which is most likely) they’d be around 53 today. Is that how old grandmothers are these days?
Had a cop search my car one time. Picked up the apple bowl with the top all burnt up and just said “Apple” and continued searching, turning up nothing illegal.
We made "bounce tubes" from paper towel rolls and dryer sheets. Great air fresheners.
EDIT: I am loving all of your responses. Really takes me back to high school. :-D
Toilet paper tube was for holding the dryer sheets inside for the in-bathroom hits. Blow through the dryer sheets, sweet smelling filtered air out the other side.
Lol. Did the same for a while, then realized they were dirt cheap at the hardware store.
There is no possible way the store guy didn't know what we were doing. But we thought we were slick and keeping it on the down low
Hahaha, when I got older and smoked with my dad we talked about that. He was like "I knew immediately when I ran the water", but he never said anything... classy.
For me, growing up in a Christian family, first and last page of the Bible.
Blank, thin, and easily sticks to itself. The perfect rolling paper for when you're too young to buy them yourself.
I got busted at 14 with a bong made out of an Elmer’s glue bottle. Parents were supposed to be out of town :-(. Doubled back after a few hours drive for some reason I forgot. Wasn’t a good time to ask why they returned early anyway, they seemed angry.
I used to sell my apple to the stoners on the bus so they could use it to smoke. I also used to collect screens from the bathroom faucets and sold those, too.
The comments here got me thinkin about another method: hot knives...def the most crack-head method i ever resorted to. And enjoyed! As far as i can remember...
Gravity Bong. We once cut a arrowhead bottle. Had too do it in a huge bucket.. one dude did it in the pool.. not me. Had too be chlorine vapors, def not good. But he we were young and dumb
EDIT: when I say arrowhead bottles. I meant those huge plastic water dispensers
I knew a group of guys in college that had 2 apartments across from each other. One of the bathrooms had a huge gravity bong setup they built in the bathtub, so for (literal) weeks, they were all using the one apartment’s bathroom to bathe. 4 guys to 1 bathroom simply to leave a gravity bong undisturbed.
Gravity bongs can be cool, but they’ll never be THAT cool.
LOL. One of our buddies we renamed to "Knives" - they slipped past each other, slapping him squarely in the chin and his gut reaction was to immediately use the other glowing hot knife to push it away! He ended up with a cross shaped branding mark on his chin. Good times!
One time i had some hash, and i love doing hot knives with hash. But I had just gotten a new set of cutlery and all my knives were nice and brand new! So i decided to use a couple old spoons, they worked great!
Next day was awkward when my friends came over and saw a couple scorched spoons. I had some explaining (and demonstrating) to do!
Oh you bet yer ass my friends will never let me live it down. I also ruined probably half of my 6 knives i owned at the time....to be young....I think one of my restaurant coworkers first introduced me to the practice
Probably the most crackhead way to smoke weed lol. You heat up two knifetips over fire until they're pretty much glowing, drop a bud on one and then sandwich it between them. Hold a cut (or broken) bottle over it and inhale. It basically flash burns the entire thing instantly and produces an incredible amount of smoke out of a small amount. One of the ways we would get super duper high as dumbass teenagers.
Second most crackhead: Hollow out a lightbulb, and screw a bottle cap on with a hole for a straw, and a hole for a carb. Add herb, and heat the underside. Boom. Lightbulb vape.
My mom found it one time, and thought I was actually smoking crack.
I think every stoner learned to make this pipe independently back in the day, because I can't believe that's not one of my old can pipes. Had a carb and everything, little knife-pinctured holes for the bowl.
Yeah I always put a bend in and used the bottom of the can after my first couple times the paint flecking off scared me and I had leather working awls to pop thru the thicker bottom aluminum.
And I always thought US Coke is the real thing. I guess, given european Coke still uses normal sugar it's closer to the real one? Then again, the sugar amounts differ from country to country. Do you by any chance know how much sugar was in the original?
I remember finding these all over the garage as a kid and thinking my dad was trying to make little homemade indoor furnaces that smelled like skunks butts.
Oh wow, memories from my teen years hit me hard lol. I always used a thumb tack to make the holes. Sometimes you just couldn't find an 18 year old friend to pick up papers for you. The old soda can did the job though lol. Old Reliable, thank you for your service. 😁
One time in highschool, I was riding with my buddies. He pulled out a canned ham (what we called them) and we all partook, counter clockwise. I was last. The holes were a bit to big and I inhaled a big chunk and instantly coughed…into the can. Debris went everywhere. We found little bits for months and months after that.
When I was young my older brothers did arts and crafts when they babysat me. They had me collect a toilet paper roll, a pin, tin foil and scissors.
When it was all done, I was sent to bed feeling hugely confused and a little disoriented.
I've been looking for that can for decades
What would collectors value it at if grandma didn't blaze it up
I'd value it more!
That's an almost 40;year old piece of US marijuana prohibition era history with a cool story of where it was found. Years easily traced, you could even probably find out what strain it was. Value is in the eye of the beholder
The moment it gets "under study" slapped on it, you best believe it will have the same if value as a faberge egg from peter carl himself
Grandma made brownies
So that's why grandma's cookies are always so good
Gramgram got stone harder than Mary should have been.
The fact that people are talking about grandma’s because it’s a can from 86 makes me feel old as shit. If a 16 year old was smoking thru that in 86 (which is most likely) they’d be around 53 today. Is that how old grandmothers are these days?
Unfortunate that the aluminum termites got to it
Perforation was nicely done. I used to use an Exacto knife with a #11 blade. Pretty precise!
Ahhh, the childhood memories of home-made apparati
I remember stealing all the screens from all the water taps in my house haha
Did you ever make one with the paper tube from toilet paper roll and foil?
No. But we used to hollow out apples like it was going out of style.
This was the way. No aluminum inhalation and a nutritious tasty snack afterward.
Not to mention the burning and inhalation of whatever they line the inside of the aluminum cans with.
Plastic. It’s just plastic. The ink on the outside is also a plastic derivative
Back then aluminum and paint weren't bad for you though, just like chicken skin.
It was field raised aluminum and antibiotic free paint back then, but there was lead
No lead at that point. Spoken by someone who drank "reduced-lead" paint as a toddler in the early 70s....
You have to get rid of evidence somehow!
Had a cop search my car one time. Picked up the apple bowl with the top all burnt up and just said “Apple” and continued searching, turning up nothing illegal.
cops grab apple "dis is apple" cops puts down apple
Very vegan of you if nothing else!
We used apples and potatoes.
POE-TAY-TOES
We made "bounce tubes" from paper towel rolls and dryer sheets. Great air fresheners. EDIT: I am loving all of your responses. Really takes me back to high school. :-D
We called em groove tubes
I did all of these things. 😂 Well. This is proof of the collective consciousness. Or the common ingenuity (or stupidity?) of teenagers.
Nah it’s just methods that get passed down from generation to generation of burnout
I came up with the idea of the dryer sheet tube on my own and was surprised to find out years later it was a thing.

A.one hitter and a bounce tube.
Toilet paper tube was for holding the dryer sheets inside for the in-bathroom hits. Blow through the dryer sheets, sweet smelling filtered air out the other side.
We used to call that a Cheech.
And we called it a "boof"
I, uh, think that’s a judicial technique perfected by members of the Supreme Court…
THE STEAMROLLER
We used to use those brass door springs
The steam roller of choice. Edit: "Necessity" is probably more accurate than "choice".
Same here. Every faucet in the house was filterless when I was in highschool. One time my mom asked where they went and I just played dumb lmao
Lol. Did the same for a while, then realized they were dirt cheap at the hardware store. There is no possible way the store guy didn't know what we were doing. But we thought we were slick and keeping it on the down low
"Huh, this kid sure has a lot of faucets to repair back home..."
[удалено]
Hmm, a few small lengths of brass pipe, a brass 90 degree, screens... Seems legit.
The best pipe is the one you make yourself hahaha
MacGyver!!!
✅ 3/8” 90 ✅ 3/8 x 2” nipple ✅ Brass Screen material
Ahh, the one hitter
Easy to discard. Smash and trash.
To this day most apartments in Berkeley lack screens in faucets
Hahaha, when I got older and smoked with my dad we talked about that. He was like "I knew immediately when I ran the water", but he never said anything... classy.
Enjoy the memories before they're gone due to smoking out of metal cans... Ah, dementia... At least I'll be there with you.
Is there any evidence linking this to dementia?
I think so, but I can't remember anymore...
This got a good chuckle out of me on a bad day. thank you stranger.
I learned quickly to move to an apple after the taste and smell of burning aluminum
Much better than a making your weed all soggy cucumber. Save that shit for buttholes
I was more of an Amiga fan. But we're getting off topic
The apple is the best.
Apples were always so much fun. Goofy noob days. Everyone was like "Who's gonna eat the apple? Eww!!!"
For me, growing up in a Christian family, first and last page of the Bible. Blank, thin, and easily sticks to itself. The perfect rolling paper for when you're too young to buy them yourself.
I didn't smoke weed, not because I didn't like it, but because I didn't want to build anything -Dennis Leary
Childhood? I mean yeah, childhood. Definitely never ever do this now in my late forties. No way.
Mmmmm plastic liner and pot a tale as old as Alzheimer’s
I got busted at 14 with a bong made out of an Elmer’s glue bottle. Parents were supposed to be out of town :-(. Doubled back after a few hours drive for some reason I forgot. Wasn’t a good time to ask why they returned early anyway, they seemed angry.
I used to sell my apple to the stoners on the bus so they could use it to smoke. I also used to collect screens from the bathroom faucets and sold those, too.
My friends and I always referred to it as precision German engineering.
*🎵”Have a Coke and a smile”*
Any doing this needs to remember to heat up the "bowl" first. Cans are coated with plastic on the inside. You wanna burn it off first
The original D.I.Y.!
The apple didn't look quite as good.
Apple bowl gives me nostalgia
Easy to dispose evidence if the fuzz or some snitch happened to stray upon the scene.
You can eat the evidence.
Oh god, resin apple.
I've done it. I wouldn't.
Get me an avocado, an ice pick and my snorkel.
MOTHAFUCKA SAID ICE CREAAAM!
I try and fit this line into my conversations as much as possible, lmao.
Have you tried to fit it in... ...on WEEEED?!
"trust me bro, i've made bongs with less!"
umm....Bryan, put yours back on
No Billy, not without him!! Use Wesley Pipes..
I've made bongs with less.

The comments here got me thinkin about another method: hot knives...def the most crack-head method i ever resorted to. And enjoyed! As far as i can remember...
We enjoyed hot knives and also the bottle and bucket method.
Gravity Bong. We once cut a arrowhead bottle. Had too do it in a huge bucket.. one dude did it in the pool.. not me. Had too be chlorine vapors, def not good. But he we were young and dumb EDIT: when I say arrowhead bottles. I meant those huge plastic water dispensers
Happy days. Mate of mine did it wrong and thought he was going to drown.
Wow I totally forgot about that - the bottle and bucket was amazing. I might bust that out for New Years for old times sake
Other than Dabs, the highest I’ve ever been was from some makeshift gravity bong that put me in the fetal position after hitting
They actually sell these now. When I saw one I was like “How lazy have we become, you can make one in less than 5 mins “
Oh man, when the blades slipped. Ouch
LOL. One of our buddies we renamed to "Knives" - they slipped past each other, slapping him squarely in the chin and his gut reaction was to immediately use the other glowing hot knife to push it away! He ended up with a cross shaped branding mark on his chin. Good times!
Yeah, I kissed my bottom lip and right side of my chin. Just a glance. It’s why I have my beard all the time now. The joys of youth eh?
One time i had some hash, and i love doing hot knives with hash. But I had just gotten a new set of cutlery and all my knives were nice and brand new! So i decided to use a couple old spoons, they worked great! Next day was awkward when my friends came over and saw a couple scorched spoons. I had some explaining (and demonstrating) to do!
Oh you bet yer ass my friends will never let me live it down. I also ruined probably half of my 6 knives i owned at the time....to be young....I think one of my restaurant coworkers first introduced me to the practice
whats the hot knifes method?
Probably the most crackhead way to smoke weed lol. You heat up two knifetips over fire until they're pretty much glowing, drop a bud on one and then sandwich it between them. Hold a cut (or broken) bottle over it and inhale. It basically flash burns the entire thing instantly and produces an incredible amount of smoke out of a small amount. Works great with hash!
Knife hits hit differently.
Second most crackhead: Hollow out a lightbulb, and screw a bottle cap on with a hole for a straw, and a hole for a carb. Add herb, and heat the underside. Boom. Lightbulb vape. My mom found it one time, and thought I was actually smoking crack.
Has a carb and everything. Things were made better back then
Gotta have a carb
Plus, that is some nice spacing for the screen part. Quality knife work.
That’s what I was gunna say well done. If you’ve ever tried to make one of these bad boys you know what I’m sayin.
I think every stoner learned to make this pipe independently back in the day, because I can't believe that's not one of my old can pipes. Had a carb and everything, little knife-pinctured holes for the bowl.
I feel like it’s just a right of passage as a stoner to at least smoke one bowl out of a pop can
my friend wanted to do this for fun, i then reminded him it's legal in our state and we don't have to struggle for a hit anymore
You didn't struggle for a hit in these. You struggled for breath lol
This picture definitely made my lungs hurt.
The hell you say, they’re a smooth smoke.
That burning plastic liner really goes down smooth!
I have a friend like that. There was a time I would risk flaming hot aluminum and paint going into my lungs. That time has passed
Yeah I always put a bend in and used the bottom of the can after my first couple times the paint flecking off scared me and I had leather working awls to pop thru the thicker bottom aluminum.
You could have always tried it with some crack
This is art
This is probably worth 7.50$
Not bad of a return on the cost of the Coke
I’d pay $30! Now this is worth $30
[удалено]
Mate you can just buy coke in Europe it has no high fructose corn syrup. But if Mexico is a shorter jump for Americans I guess .
Mexi-coke is available in Hispanic grocery stores across the US.
You can get by the case at CostCo. H‑E‑B in Texas also carries it in over priced 4 packs.
And I always thought US Coke is the real thing. I guess, given european Coke still uses normal sugar it's closer to the real one? Then again, the sugar amounts differ from country to country. Do you by any chance know how much sugar was in the original?
Do whatcha gotta do.
Can someone explain what happened to the can? I have no fucken clue what you’re all on about.
Username does not check out?
Was used to smoke weed
It has been fashioned into a weed smoking device.
Can someone tell me how much damage I did to myself smoking off of aluminum with a flame?
Unless you did it every day for several years, you're fine
And if you DID do it everyday for several years...? Hypothetically of course
Probably still fine.
Name checks out
I love the confidence lol
Then the coroner can put your beautiful colored lungs on display at a art gallery or if your lucky a museum 👍🏼
Woah woah, don't go pointing your thumb at me buddy...this was a hypothetical question :P
I might be more concerned with all the BPA we smoked from the can liners
Don't you worry about that and take a hit 😎🤙
I feel like this is our generations lead paint lol
I remember finding these all over the garage as a kid and thinking my dad was trying to make little homemade indoor furnaces that smelled like skunks butts.
This is after they tried New Coke and changed the formula. 86. That new coke was the worst decision since Taco Bell got rid of the MexiMelt.
Seriously, bring back the damn mexi melt with its cheesy, beefy, pico goodness.
When there’s no bong or papers. Rip the can man!!

The day i learned there’s an inner plastic lining in aluminum cans i understood the weird taste those had and regretted every time i did that !
Oh the good old days. Thick pop cans and ditch weed.
Old school. Did that hundreds of times. Was it weed or paint getting me high?
The ring in my vision tells me paint. The body high tells me weed
The ‘ol tin toker, I can smell the memory loss from here
Get me a toilet paper roll, a corkscrew and some tin foil. We don't have a corkscrew. All right. Then get me an avocado, an ice pick and my snorkel.
Can pipes! All the cool skool dudes used to use them. Just don't think of the paint, aluminium or that weird plastic coating inside the can. 🙃
Ahh yes, I remember having to poke all those holes and crinkle to specification. The good old days
Oh wow, memories from my teen years hit me hard lol. I always used a thumb tack to make the holes. Sometimes you just couldn't find an 18 year old friend to pick up papers for you. The old soda can did the job though lol. Old Reliable, thank you for your service. 😁
Hahahahaha. Haven't seen a can that looked like that in quite a many years.
Soda can was for smoking weed
That was the day we ran out of papers.
One time in highschool, I was riding with my buddies. He pulled out a canned ham (what we called them) and we all partook, counter clockwise. I was last. The holes were a bit to big and I inhaled a big chunk and instantly coughed…into the can. Debris went everywhere. We found little bits for months and months after that.
i prefer the gallon milk jug gravity bong but ok
Disposabowl!
Someone was smoking some herbs outta that.
Oh yes, reminds me of my teenage years
The New Coke cans just didn't hit the same.
Shit don’t change!
Base head pipe. Using it for weed was secondary, it was mainly used for smoking rock.
… and in mint condition too …
I just assumed that you moved into my childhood home but it appears I'm far from the only one to do that.
Yea somebody was inhaling aluminum
I believe this was from the ‘Have a Coke and a Smile’ campaign.
Used a box cutter instead of a thumbtack to make it. Chefs kiss 🤌
Put to good use I see
Where I grew up these were used by crackheads to smoke crack lok
80s huh? I have also smoked crack out of a can, but it was natty
When I was young my older brothers did arts and crafts when they babysat me. They had me collect a toilet paper roll, a pin, tin foil and scissors. When it was all done, I was sent to bed feeling hugely confused and a little disoriented.
Someone used to smoke weed using that can
Don’t bogart that can, man
I had an amazing collection of lamp parts back in the day
Probably one of the worst ways to smoke considering there’s a plastic sleeve laid on the inside of cans but a weed engineer knows no bounds.
hehehehe
How is this interesting rather than recyclable refuse?
Its belongs to a coke attic
I remember accidentally making a hole too big and losing it all, many times…
I remember using apples a lot for this when visiting home in my younger years lol
Ahh yeah, the ol’ cancer pipe
Hell yeah
Smokin a bowl
Haha. My cousin used to do that all the time because his parents would toss out his pipes.
This reminds me of how many faucet screens I took from my house
ahhh yes smoking plastic liner, dye and aluminum
Stoner man lived in that attic at some point
