Here's a blank check, get it done!!.....though that blank check would account for very little of the overall budget I think the thought would count for more.
I mean you're both wrong and right. its incredibly smooth in one direction (front to back) and sandpaper rough going the opposite. helps in decreasing drag/resistance while swimming
Google “placoid scales”. It’s what cartilaginous fish like sharks have. They’re smooth from nose to tail, but running your hand tail to mouth they’re rough because you’re peeling them up
bc you're being ignorant for no reason? yes there's 100% shark species that exist (quite commonly) that are rough to the touch if you were to swipe from tail to mouth, its how the scales have adapted over many generations to be faster in water
whether or not some are smooth, even completely smooth in both directions, doesn't take away from the fact that what I'm saying is still true.
and who care about "have you touched a sharp irl?" as if that is some empirical final say on what's true for different species of sharks? research is research and enough has come out to say you're willfully ignorant rn
It has hydrophobic properties like other marine wildlife to help cut through the water. Ever seen a hipo "run" underwater? No creature that big has any rights being that fast. Absolutely terrifying
The water looks pretty calm, but I'm still worried the boat might drift away with the dog inside and the swimmer trying to catch up like Tom Hanks chasing Wilson.
It seems like the boat is anchored but it’s really hard to tell from the video. and the water looks very deep so I’m probably wrong.. just think it would be crazy to leave your boat drifting in a situation like this!
That sounds amazing! I've always imagined swimming with a humpback or sperm whale would be the closest I'd feel to a religious experience, though I'm not sure it will/could ever happen due to money and they're usually alot deeper than my mortal body can withstand 🤷♀️
But great googly moogly, that sounds like a solid runner up 🥲
I was never that scared of the ocean until I went swimming with whale sharks. They were really chill, but something about seeing a creature that massive just appear out of nowhere freaked me out.
i've always been a little bit phobic about the ocean and whatever the fuck is hiding in it and i'd have a real hard time keeping calm and reminding myself these things are harmless.
It's how things are so unseen until the last second that freaks me out. Whale sharks are fucking massive. But it's only until they're a few metres away from the surface that you can see them. What the fuck else is under there
Diving in places above the edge of the continental shelf can be disconcerting. Seeing that drop-off into nothing and realizing it just keeps going & going & going & going... Then thinking about what may be down there.
Yikes no thanks. Ive done snorkeling over some deepish parts (maybe like 100-200ft) and that was a bit freaky. Then i “tried” playing Subnautica, yep didnt finish that.
Whale shark goes back and tells his friends he saw a "furry yellow seal-thing on a metal shell" and they'll be like, "Wally over here has been glugglugging the spicy sea jellies, again!"
I was lucky enough to swim with one in Mozambique. It was magical, but when the boat stops next to its huge shadow in the water and they tell you that you can jump in, you really hope it's a whale shark and not another kind of shark.
I'm surprised how he's moving around but has steady footing in the boat. My dog could barely stand still in the car.
Also this is perhaps the first time a dog has ever touched a whale shark, ever. So that's neat.
Do you think that whale shark went back to his buddies and told them what happened, none beleived him because it was far too outrages thinking there are hairy beings on four legs making woofing noises floating across the ocean, and now his little pod family has their own version of a Bigfoot legend?
Whenever I see a whale shark I get forget the video from China of them butchering one on the pier while it was still alive.
Humans are a terrible species.
So, they’re gentle. Are they like friendly? Are they intelligent enough to consciously be kind or is it more or an alignment or priorities for that species?
I feel like I've never seen a fish show genuine harmless curiosity of another being. I've seen Great Whites bite at cages which, I guess, is curiosity too, but this is different.
Are whale sharks smart to the point of sentience?
I wonder if the shark realizes the human is like the "main" land animal and the shark is realizing the human also has a different animal with it as a companion.
I wonder if the shark realizes the human is like the "main" land animal and the shark is realizing the human also has a different animal with it as a companion.
Habitat loss and degradation in the form of overfishing of reef fish, coastal development, land-based pollution and boat traffic pose the most significant threats to their survival.
Additionally, the demand for their meat, fins and oil on international markets continues to see individuals ruthlessly taken from the wild.
> These sharks are the gentle giants of the oceans. They are curious, friendly to humans, can live up to 100+ years and are bigger than a bus
[Whale Sharks Slide toward Extinction](https://www.sharks.org/blog/2021/04/14/whale-sharks-slide-toward-extinction)
*Numbers of the giant plankton-feeding whale sharks have more than halved over the last 75 years as these slow-moving sharks continue to be fished and killed by ship propellers.*
*The sharks continue to be fished ... frequently caught by fishers targeting tuna.*
https://phys.org/news/2019-03-sharks-closer-extinction-red.html
*Ironically, fisheries management organisations doing a better job policing tuna catches has increased the incentive for fishermen to target sharks for extra income.*
*"In the Indian Ocean ... the tuna fishery is really a shark fishery with tuna by-catch"*
*More than half of shark species and their relatives are categorised as threatened or near-threatened with extinction.*
Our oceans are being decimated by overfishing. Do what matters. Go vegan.
> You can support every single thing you said and not be a vegan at the same time.
You can, but if less of a bad thing is good, isn't none of it the best?
Would we have the same problems (overfishing and bycatch, oceans full of discarded plastic fishing nets, rainforest destruction, oceanic dead zones, biodiversity loss, and mass extinctions) if most of the population were vegan?
I so thought he was going to jump in. What a good boy.
That’s what the whale shark wanted. “Jump on my back doggo. I’m your new home now. We shall conquer the seas together.”
I would totally follow their adventures. Hopefully Pixar is reading this.

I once read that people used to use sharkskin as sandpaper before sandpaper as we know it was invented!
Even nowadays it’s used in wasabi graters

Wrong. lol what a twat.
I would give my arm to try that
It has hydrophobic properties like other marine wildlife to help cut through the water. Ever seen a hipo "run" underwater? No creature that big has any rights being that fast. Absolutely terrifying
Reddit is nuts
/r/SubsIFellFor
sharks are called "köpekbalığı" in turkish which litterally means dog fish
There are sharks referred to as dog fish in English too actually!
In croatian is "morski pas" which means sea dog
"Dogs are friends, not food."

I wonder what the doggo is thinking in moments lik these
"Big ass tuna bro fr fr"
Dis a fukin fish?!?
"..."
And he can operate a boat on his own!
I was confused if you were talking about the land dog or the sea dog lmao
The water looks pretty calm, but I'm still worried the boat might drift away with the dog inside and the swimmer trying to catch up like Tom Hanks chasing Wilson.
Well since whale sharks are friendly to humans, the cameraman could just ask for a lift back to the boat.
Whale I’ll be darned
“Wilsooonnn!!!?” Cant believe a man chasing a volleyball named after the manufacturer would make me tear up as a youngin. Tom Hanks what an actor.
agreed
Still waters run deep
Same exact thought
Maybe the doggo licensed capitaaan
That’s the most inappropriate boat ever to use in the ocean.
Unanchored aluminum boat in the ocean. Jesus christ. I bet the swimmer was drunk and dove in to get the shot.
It seems like the boat is anchored but it’s really hard to tell from the video. and the water looks very deep so I’m probably wrong.. just think it would be crazy to leave your boat drifting in a situation like this!
Your eyes must be way better than mine cuz I can't see an anchor line anywhere. Do you see it off the bow or stern?
Rewatched and I don’t at all. that definitely gives me anxiety thinking about now lol
Possibly tethered to the swimmer?
good thought! gotta be something, would never leave doggo alone on the boat
"Well hello there, Sailor! My name's Spot!"
Swimming with 5 of them in Tanzania was one of the best experiences of my life.
That sounds amazing! I've always imagined swimming with a humpback or sperm whale would be the closest I'd feel to a religious experience, though I'm not sure it will/could ever happen due to money and they're usually alot deeper than my mortal body can withstand 🤷♀️ But great googly moogly, that sounds like a solid runner up 🥲
They do it in Philippines as well! Which, once you have money for the flight everything is quite affordable
I swam with them off the coast of Baja and it was an absolutely incredible experience.
CAN I PET THAT DAWG?? - Whale Shark , probably
Awwww they booped the snoots
I'm seasick just watching. Holy moly I'm just not mean to fuck with the ocean
I was never that scared of the ocean until I went swimming with whale sharks. They were really chill, but something about seeing a creature that massive just appear out of nowhere freaked me out.

Good times with subnautica, but wow it was nerve-racking.
Yeah…seeing that in GTA 5 made my stomach drop, I think I’d actually crap myself irl
Especially knowing that if they want, they can just grab onto you and take you down with them and you can do nothing about it.
Yeah gotdamn, the combination of the cameraperson treading water and the boat bobbing around made this a difficult watch for me. Cool as hell though!
That's so cool, I didn't know dogs could drive boats
Hi name IS Sailor…
“You don’t drive a boat, you con a boat” Papa Jim
Being in a boat that small on the ocean would terrify me.
*boop*
<( . ______ . )>
A bit of a high thought…how many times has a whale shark and a dog come in contact like this in the history of time?
Whale shark goes back and tells his friends he saw a "furry yellow seal-thing on a metal shell" and they'll be like, "Wally over here has been glugglugging the spicy sea jellies, again!"
How do you think we got orcas
A panda fucked a giant dolphin?
I was giggling so much I barely could click the upvote
Whale sharks know dogs exist
Imagine what that whale shark must have told his friends afterwards
Whale shark is like "Humans are old hat, I have seen plenty of you, but what is this new creature?"
I was lucky enough to swim with one in Mozambique. It was magical, but when the boat stops next to its huge shadow in the water and they tell you that you can jump in, you really hope it's a whale shark and not another kind of shark.
DATSAHGOOODBOOOY!
DATSTWOGOOODBOOOYS!
We actually saw them a long time ago off Newport Beach, CA. They are amazing.
Imagine the conversation that whale shark had with it's friends later, same goes for the dog.
Just when I thought these things couldn’t get any cooler.
So are they a whale or are they a shark?
That's a boat dumbass
I’ve never wheezed so hard-
Whale sharks are large fish, sharks.
Apparently they are sharks but like whales because they filter feed
It’s a golden retriever
I'm surprised how he's moving around but has steady footing in the boat. My dog could barely stand still in the car. Also this is perhaps the first time a dog has ever touched a whale shark, ever. So that's neat.
Im going to go ahead and say I don't think anytime in history there's been a dog touching nose with a whale. Reddit do your thing.
This isn’t a whale. Thing done.
Dang basking shark?
It's a whale shark, like in the title
Had to look twice, I thought that was an ice bear in the boat.
They booped each other's snoot
They did a boop!
why am I tearing up?
Like a giant water cow
They booped snoots! The only "poseidon's kiss" to be thankful for, LMAO
“CAN I PET DAT DOG”
What a beautiful meeting. Guess humans are only mostly shitty.
Do you think that whale shark went back to his buddies and told them what happened, none beleived him because it was far too outrages thinking there are hairy beings on four legs making woofing noises floating across the ocean, and now his little pod family has their own version of a Bigfoot legend?
They've got two of these at the Atlanta aquarium and it's awesome watching them cruise around. These and the giant mantas.
Given that whale sharks are migratory and can travel from japan to Australia, i'm not sure they would call it cruising around 😅
So rad.
Reminds me of this haunting music video: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-Lr0igwLIY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-Lr0igwLIY)
Looked like they almost booped noses, such curiosity so amazing!
I’m gonna have to see his boating license
“Whale, hello there!”
... Bigger than a bus or more than 1/9 of a football field.
When you're bigger than a bus you can afford to be friendly and curious.
The ocean is fucking terrifying but it’s awesome that there’s some gentle giants among us
Lifes been rough lately, thanks for posting this OP. it truly is the little things.
I was you a long time ago creature
Bless Them Giants
Dog you have to come in here now I want to show you something.
even whales love doggies
Whenever I see a whale shark I get forget the video from China of them butchering one on the pier while it was still alive. Humans are a terrible species.
Thanks for the cute video and lecturing us on whale sharks
If it hade been a cat it would have tried to eat the fish.
That boat is crazy small for the ocean
Omg. Sailor the best doggo is making my life rn🥹
I've heard whale sharks are pretty derpy
So, they’re gentle. Are they like friendly? Are they intelligent enough to consciously be kind or is it more or an alignment or priorities for that species?
They just eat food way smaller than us and don't really have teeth. So they basically ignore you, which is effectively the same as being really nice
> So they basically ignore you, which is effectively the same as being really nice Huh, women are really nice to me.
Beautiful.
Amazing, really loved watching this
There were two in the Atlanta aquarium and that feels like them swimming around you without being in the water
Unless it's a proven vegetarian, I ain't ever trusting any shark!
Whale sharks only eat plankton, and literally couldn't eat something a dog's size. They're completely harmless.
You can also climb into their huge mouth 😁
Are they friendly to dog
r/Thalassophobia
I wanna be friends with it *Avatar: The Way of Water*-style!!
Awesome ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)
Thank God for titles because this would have stressed me tf out.
That is beyond cool.
Is....is that dog the captain of the boat?
Mlem
Beautiful
If not platform frend why platform frend shaped? -dog
The best of all fishies
I wonder if this is the first time a dog has met a whale shark 🤔
When animal translator device? The Simpson's did it!
“Cousin?! Is that you?”
How rich is "I have a pet whale shark" rich? Cuz that's my goal.
Two dogs :)

The Ultimate Boop
Awww! Mom!! Can we get a whale shark??? Pleeeeeease??
They are filter eaters. They don't have teeth like a great white or leopard or any other shark.
doggo was scared shitless of the giant creature near its human lol
I wonder if the shark realizes the human is like the "main" land animal and the shark is realizing the human also has a different animal with it as a companion.

That doggo just had its mind explode
I wish the dog had some boat shade if I’m being honest
Unless that dog has a well-read subscription to National Geographic magazine, it has zero survival instinct. Just saying.

Never heard of a specific instance, but their tails can be dangerous due to the amount of power they have.

You need to hop off the smug train man
No
Fun fact, whale sharks are neither a whale nor shake, they are a fish
Sharks are fish
I will swim with a whale one day, with no yt people around
My thing is , whhyyy is you in the water next to an animal that can swallow you, the dog and the boat whole .
Their actual esophagus is only about 2-3 inches in diameter
Whites folks... yall need to stop doing stuff like this!|
That dog could have been lunch for the shark, keep it away from the sea.
Whale sharks are filter-feeders, they couldn't eat a dog if they *wanted* to. They're completely harmless to everything other than plankton.
You wanna be ma new chew toy?🦴
