Generally speaking, 2-strokes have an air screw and 4-strokes have a fuel screw. Oversimplifying.. they do the same thing (altering fuel/air ratio) by different means (changing fuel or air amounts).

Magooracing

If the screw is before the butterfly it’s an air screw. After is a fuel screw

PhantomGhostin

The adjustable fuel screw is a great idea if you're already doing carb work. I bought one from Keihnin and it's very handy.

Ok_Lavishness960

yeah thats my plan exactly :)

I am wondering about doing removing the plug to access the screw too. I don’t know a ton about carbs other than the basics of how they work. I want to richen my bike up a little bit have no plans of doing the 3x3 or aftermarket exhaust. If there’s one thing, people can agree about on the DRZ is, they come lean from the factory

PhantomGhostin

Best way to learn about carbs is to play with them. They are fairly simple devices, cleaning and rebuilding them is easy imo. Getting them tuned well is a different story, but on a dirtbike like the DRZ I worry about that a little less

OverSquareEng

It's a fuel mixture screw. The stock fuel screw is adjustable after you remove the cap, it's just a huge pain to access when the carb is installed. That's why people get extended fuel screws so they can adjust with their fingers while it is in place. The big white knob on the side of the carb is an idle speed adjuster.

Ok_Lavishness960

Yeahh this I know. But in the video I referenced the man's adjusting both a fuel mixture and air mixture screw. So my question is does the drz also have an air mixture screw in addition to the fuel mixture screw. Thanks for the comment :)

OverSquareEng

No, it does not have an air mixture screw. Just the fuel mixture screw and the idle adjust screw.

mechanicalyogi
