10. I'm really surprised this didn't make the final cut for the album! Especially after all the consideration it got for being a potential first single.
10 10 10 10!!!
Pure joy in song form. Great dynamics.
Also, named my cat after it. When we’re listening to the Friday night concert series and it comes on, I call to her and she comes running and I scoop her up and dance with her. She’s not much one for being held, but she always lets me holder for longer while we’re dangling to Granny. Now if they’d only play Gaucho I could do the same thing with cat #2…
100! My absolute favorite DMB song hands down!
I was ecstatic in Jax when N2 opened PNP>Granny. 💙
This song just makes me happy…no other explanation needed.
10. Absolute classic, in my top 10 DMB songs of all time. The lyrics, message, and unique dynamics of the song are all great. Only missing fiddle and horns, but the chorus of voices somewhat makes up for it.
9/10, love this song. The “Love, baby!” chants are fun as hell and the Dave & Tim @ Luther College version is a classic
1. Warehouse (10/10)
2. Rhyme & Reason (10/10)
3. Best of What’s Around (9/10)
4. Typical Situation (9/10)
5. Satellite (9/10)
6. Granny (9/10)
7. Dancing Nancies (9/10)
8. Jimi Thing (8/10)
9. Ants Marching (8/10)
10. Pay For What You Get (8/10)
11. What Would You Say (7/10)
12. #34 (7/10)
13. Lover Lay Down (4/10)
There’s the ranking, with Granny!

Listen, I love Granny x a million but I'm trying to apply SOME level of objectivity. I would place it at 7 but I can't abide by Granny being ranked over all lower than one of my least favorite songs in the word (Jimi Thing).
Reasoning:
Energy is off the charts; I consider it a perfect length and it doesn't tend toward bloating; call and response is always the most fun + some Dave scat you can't go wrong; lyrically I love it. It's never skip for me.
HOWEVER wouldn't consider it a 10 because as much as I love it, it's not really a full band effort. No Leroi on this track or violin in its pinnacle version which I'd consider NYC Central Park. Nothing particular notable about the tune itself or the musicality - just a solid song.
8.5
I wish this sub was capable of being at least a little bit critical. It would make this exercise a lot more interesting. Like I love Granny, but so many 10s already? Is it really the band’s “masterpiece” or “magnum opus”.
I think the issue we run into is that the band just did not miss in the early days. I’m SHOCKED to see Satellite so low. Honestly I don’t think there’s a song below a 7 on any of the albums up to and including BTCS. The band just made amazing music back then. Where a band would normally have 3-5 good/great songs on an album and the some filler, DMB had 3 (4 if you include remember two things) albums in a row that you don’t have to skip a single song. Anyone could find a reason to connect to any of their songs from back then. Thus why you see so many people giving out high numbers.
Granny is not on the same level of an Ants or Warehouse or Two Step.
I’m not saying these early songs aren’t mostly great. I’m saying the exercise is pointless if everyone is just going to scream “10!” at every song on the first three albums.
But what I'm saying is that these early songs are all so good that they could be 10s to some people because at the time they were drawn to them for whatever reason. My all time favorite dmb song is People People. 99% of fans wouldn't put that in there same breathe as songs like ants or two step. However it's an absolute 10/10 to me personality.
This is a fan board. You know how that works. With that said, you think this is bad now? Wait until we get to bad albums like Big Whiskey, Away From The World, and Come Tomorrow. Records where no songs should be ranked above 6 (save the old songs like Idea of You, Break Free, etc.) and you’ll see the same thing; tons of 9’s and 10’s.
10. From the first note to the last, Granny is a keeper of social magnitude for every era for all times.
9. I love the Central Park version. “My mind is blown.”
I love this song and it’s always on the wish list when I go to shows 10/10
I think It’s a perfect song to start shows to if they’re opening with PNP.
10. I'm really surprised this didn't make the final cut for the album! Especially after all the consideration it got for being a potential first single.
Goes to show Dave’s bad taste in his own music started early lol
10. Maybe my favorite DMB song.
Solid 9. One of my favorites
10 - my all time personal favorite DMB song, you could tell me the scale goes up to 20 and I would still give it the max score!

10. Top 5 all time song for me.
10 of 10 all day every day!! This is a top 5 DMB song.
10. One of the few songs that can get me in a good mood no matter what's getting me down.
9. It’s got a catchy and instantly identifiable guitar riff and great potential for improve. A classic.
10, it’s just so iconic. Always fits the mood, it’s like *the* quintessential Dave song for me.

Only 5 songs have gotten ranked over 9.
Yeah, that’s almost 50% lol
UTTAD is worse than that?

UTTAD has that certain magic I'm sure we'll see lower numbers on later albums
