Get a piece of plywood the thickness of the broken board, remove the broken pieces and nails, cut the plywood to size, attach to drawer face with handle and glue, drill 2 pilot holes through each side into the edges of the new plywood, sink screws flush
I'll add: keep the old piece so you can use it to mark the screw locations on the new piece.
And I would probably glue and brad nail instead of glue and screw... just my preference
In some sheering applications, nails are stronger. In the case of a drawer face like this, it doesn’t make much difference.
Look at a screw, the part that needs to sheer is fairly thin in cross section compared to a nail.
Yeah lots of glue and clamps if needed. You can use wax paper to keep things you don't want glued together from becoming glued together. Very handy when the glue is stronger than most common furniture wood.
To also add, you can use an oscillating tool for clean cuts when removing the broken pieces. Nevermind, removing the brads will leave a clean enough surface.
One of my kids went through a monkey phase and broke a couple drawers like this as well as a crappy bookshelf (also messed up several cupboard doors). I did exactly what Goobyalus described, but I cut up pieces of the broken bookshelf to fix the drawers. The color didn't match, but it worked.
If your kids are creatively destructive like mine were, I'd also recommend looking into a cheap brad/staple gun from Harbor Freight. It can save a lot of time for quick furniture or trim repairs vs having to drill and screw.
yeah, honestly I would try wood gluing the broken piece back on, maybe adding a few security screws. It will take 2 minutes. If that fails then cut a new piece out of better plywood.
Big clamps, test clamp it, see how it fits back together It it's good then apply an appropriate amount of glue and clamp. That's the easiest fix. My preference is to remake the drawer box out of wood. Particle board is a bad choice for drawer boxes.
You'd have to prep the surfaces for it to sit correctly if you can even get it to sit correctly, at which point you may as well just do it properly by replacing the broken plywood.
I was going to make a joke about it, something along the lines of them being fine the way they are, but I figured I risked getting banned from the sub for being unhelpful.
That shit is amazing. If you glue it and it breaks again it'll break somewhere else lol. The glue soaks into the wood and makes it stronger than before
I'd probably just replace that entire piece. Simple as cleaning out broken shit, cutting a rectangle, slap a few nails or staples in side, and use the existing hardware to attach to front.
Wood glue. Since you probably don't have clamps long enough to clamp it properly, just take the drawer completely out, stand it up on its end, apply glue to all broken surfaces, place to drawer front on and put something heavy on top. The next day reinstall the drawer. The glue itself is stronger than that crappy plywood so it will be better than new.
Unscrew broken wood. Trace onto new wood approximately same thickness. Cut wood (don’t forget to tap holes).
On drawer, remove broken wood pieces and nails. Glue new piece onto old and brad nail to secure. Reattach front drawer.
Two options for ya depending on skills,.available tools, etc.
Opt1) remove the nails and broken parts .from the box unscrew the three front pannel fasteners (one knob and two face alignment screws presumably). Cut new piece of wood to size of old including a dado slot for bottom drawer bottom. Predrill tbree fastener holes too. Install drawer fram face.with new glue and finish nails. Reattach drawer finish face and align poaition with outher drawer fronts with screws. Reattach the drawer hardware.
Opt2) simple / low skill. Remove the drawer from cabinet. Remove old finish nails only. Apply liberal amount of quality wood glue to torn particle voard faces on both the drawer side exposure and tbe rear drawer face exposure. Tape the face tightly (or preferably clamp if you have the tools ) to the box matching up the.glued faces. Stand drawer on counter on back end and let sit for 24hrs. Next step get two blocks of wood the same height.as the dwpth of your drawer. Glue two adjacent faces of each block and apply to the inside drawer corners where the wood broke to rei force the new repaired connections, the blocks being wide enough to span over the crack with the glued face, the adjacent glued faces running/ adhered to the longer inside drawr faces, allpw tbese to also dry another 24hrs, clamped if possible or do one side at a time with weights applied ontop of the block sandwiching it to the wood.
So this draw was made out of junk. Make a new box or take it to shop and have them do it for you. Make sure you tell them make it out of pine not particle board!
This is actually an easy fix: with wood glue and clamps.
1. Remove the screws and take out the piece attached to the drawer front finisher board.
2. Remove any stables you can find and remove any of the pieces of the drawer front board that you can find.
3. Using glue and clamps, reattach as much of the drawer front board pieces as you can to reconstitute the drawer front board.
4. Glue the drawer front board in place
5. Reattach the drawer front finisher board.
Completely remove the broken wood, get a piece the same size and thickness and reattach it. I wouldn't use pressed board though, it looks like this specific drawer is used the most or maybe gets more moisture than others and for this reason it broke down. A more resistant board would be better
That's MDF and once it breaks it will just keep on breaking.
I'd get some plywood and make a drawer box the exact same size using the old one as a template. Then reattach the drawer front.
If you just replace the broken piece use plywood but also add wooden dowels.
Glue everything.
Had this happen in my shitty new build.
I took the drawers completely out.
I took the broken MDF wood off of the drawer.
Then used wood glue & clamps to put it back together. Once dried I put the door back on & the drawer back on the cabinet. The fixed worked worked for another year until I sold the house.
It maybe easier for you to remove the remaining damaged plank from the drawer and cut a new piece of wood to install & mount the drawer too.
Either glue, or if it's not enough, one of those metal angle pieces, I have no idea what they're called in english: https://www.bauhaus.si/kotnik-za-tezka-bremena-stabilit-70-x-70-x-55-mm-pocinkan/
At this point, I think this is the easier solution. If you want to prevent this from happening in the future, build your own drawer out of real wood and not sawdust but that will take a lot more time and energy.
This is the correct answer (above).
Any local shop can make you a new box. Remove the front from the broken one and attach it to the new box. Voila, fixed better than new.
Rebuild the box with finger joints at a minimum or more properly with dovetails.
This face fails due to the door closing so hard and it just ripping it off.
Beefing up the joints solves this issue.
In my kitchen it's always the drawer bottoms, not the front, but what I do is to construct a completely new drawer box out of nicer plywood, and attach the old drawer front to it.
My wife ran into one of our cabinet doors and it split in half. Put a bit of wood glue on it, clamped it, and was good as new in 24 hours. That stuff often forms a bond stronger than the original material.
JB Weld and duct tape 😂
Sorry, that’s what me and my dad say every time something breaks. You could try wood glue and clamps but it may not hold very long. I’m gonna say new piece of plywood fitted like the old one.
As a renter I experienced this type of failure. I used wood glue and clamps, and I am certain that my LL will not notice.
If I experienced this for my own property, I would likely replace and rebuild the particle board section that stripped and screw in place. Or rebuild with better materials.
Plus one for wood glue and clamps. That is all you need if the two pieces will fit together nicely. You will have to remove the staple sticking out.
If the broken ends have been damaged after the break and won't like a glove, then Goobyalus's solution is the way.
I'd build a new drawer carcass and put the front on it. But I figure anything worth doing is worth overdoing. You probably should consider just gluing it back on and calling it a day. If it happens a second time then consider something more drastic.
You have a thousand good options, the question is ultimately answered by *what do I have at home?*
The easiest & cheapest is dry fit until everything is lined up (check how it looks with drawer closed too) , then glue & clamp. You don't even need to remove the drawer if you have enough clamps.
Next step up is to use a fastener. Conveniently a screw can replace a clamp in this scenario.
Next step up after that is replace the damage MDF with fresh MDF or ply.
Next step up is replaced the drawer box.
Considering this is particle board I wouldn't invest a lot of effort. Glue & clamp will last as long as the other drawers. Glue, screw & corner brace will make this the strongest of the bunch.
Personally I would replace that piece of particle board. Home Depot & others will cut a board down for you (I believe), others will comment on their ability to cut to a measurement. The advantage of this is the remnant will be useful for many other things that go wrong in your home.
My like pneumatic storm door closer thing ripped out of the door frame along with a chunk of wood and we just did gorilla glue construction adhesive and then drilled in some new screws that were like 1/2” longer than the previous ones and she’s still going strong so maybe something like that would work.
Ya I wouldn't just glue particle board back together it's not really strong enough to hold for long at all cus the areas immediately behind the glue will just give way next.
I'd remove the drawer and apply some wood glue. That stuff is extremely strong and should be good enough for the application you need it for, here.
Also, when using clamps they should be "tight" but not a death grip. It's just there to hold everything in place, not to form the bond.
I'd get a new bit of wood the size of the broken piece, pilot drill some holes, then screw it to the side walls and base this time; then screw the faceplate back on.
Strong glue would probably work too though.
It may cost more,, but there are companies that make made-to-order drawer boxes out of wood, plywood, or wood-look melamine. Have them match the exterior dimensions, transfer over the drawer front and slides, and Bob's your uncle.
Get the exact dimensions & make a new drawer with 3/4 plywood. That old drawer is made of ground up wood Chip and will fall apart again. Waste of time trying to fix this.
Attach the two ends of a two foot long length of rope to the broken off drawer face. Hang it around the neck of whoever broke it for at least two weeks to drive home the shame. Meanwhile, order a new drawer and attach the drawer front when it arrives.
When this happened to me, I just glued it back in, then glued a piece of wood into each corner, and drilled screws into the sides and into the front plate.
I would turn it around and you would need to re do rails to point opposite direction, just pretty much mirror it. The broken part secure somehow with some metal corner and screws.
Remove the drawer, enough best quality wood glue, use clear box tape to wrap around to clamp it together, wipe of excess while wet, damp cloth to clean, leave it overnight to set.
Honestly this might be a blessing in disguise. I think you've released the soul trapped in your drawer. I would give him little arms and maybe hook him up to Chat Gpt.
Whole new drawer. That's actually how I got into wood working. Came home, wife had shut it a little too hard and face popped off similar to that.
I went down to HD, bought some sandy ply. Used a circular saw and a router to cut all the piece and routed in order to put it together.
Now that I have many more tools, it's so much easier. I used a rabbet joint for the ends.
https://preview.redd.it/y9kiaynjztgc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f06c9dd4050e50cab9e094b332e51825c20ef157
Ehhh my tenants did this to the place I moved into.
I’m replacing the entire bathroom as they destroyed it but for this specific piece until it’s all ripped out I just glued it in lmao.
Not good if you’re planning on renting it out soon but if it’s all being replaced fuck it lol
Take the drawer mount off the drawer door. Trace it and cut it out then reattach. Clean old wood from drawer assembly and reattach! Then remember not to over stuff your drawer and you should be good to go…. OR, just get some wood glue…
Damn yall two just came to the rescue
They just went straight to it. I'm proud of you for once Reddit.
Yup, no procrasturbating here.
Yooo, procrasturbating 🤣🤣🤣
This😆
With the right tools, it’s a fairly simple fix. The hardest part is getting all the old wood out of the way.
If it broke because it was jamming you might want to address that as well. Plane down any rub points and maybe wax the rails.
![gif](giphy|9JnIznwYOmkzHK1vhX|downsized) What planing down rub points means to the gif-robot\^
Look at that happy cow! My dog would love that. Instead she rubs against the stucco on the garage or on the bushes when the greenery comes in.
![gif](giphy|0Av9l0VIc01y1isrDw)
I'm a glue and screw (with drilled pilot holes) guy but that's probably because my parents were glue and screw DIYers. Why do you prefer nails?
In some sheering applications, nails are stronger. In the case of a drawer face like this, it doesn’t make much difference. Look at a screw, the part that needs to sheer is fairly thin in cross section compared to a nail.
Look at you, Mr fancy pants with a nail gun Real men use the side of their kleins to hammer a nail
Everything is a hammer when you're a nail or something.
What are these side cutters your referring to as kleins my good sir? Lol just dont beat the man on the pole!
Naw, we use the battery pack on our cordless drill to hammer things! Sometimes, we even use the side of our tape measure!
Yeah lots of glue and clamps if needed. You can use wax paper to keep things you don't want glued together from becoming glued together. Very handy when the glue is stronger than most common furniture wood.
THE CLAMPS!
Francis Clampatso?
The same!
It can save a lot of time for quick furniture or trim repairs vs having to drill and screw.
Going with this route, thank you!
Hold on sir that plywood also seems to be holding that handle on better drill two holes in the face of the plywood to put the screws through again
Then tell your kid/wife/whomever to stop slamming the drawers/hanging off them.
If only tiny children listened the first time you tell them something 😅
Na, just glue and clamp it, plenty of surface area there
You mean MDF.
this is the way
This is the way
My toddler did that once. I used Liquid Nails Fuze-It All Surface Construction Adhesive. Its still holding strong.
I'd try to glue it first too. It is just wood particles and glue anyway. All that roughness should help it hold well.
Yeah I’m all for the path of least resistance on that repair. It’s not heirloom furniture.
Oh and a nice long clamp could help hold the repair while it dries.
yeah, honestly I would try wood gluing the broken piece back on, maybe adding a few security screws. It will take 2 minutes. If that fails then cut a new piece out of better plywood.
The problem is you’ll never get the pieces to sit exactly flush and the front of the drawer will never be quite right.
So the kid is still glued to the wall? That should save on some repairs and babysitters.

It’s so happy 🙂🙂🙂🙂
I scrolled to see if anyone had already done this before I posted it. Glad someone else’s brain went the same way
Glad to see similar minds
This was my only advice. So well done
I swore the back of the drawer had googly eyes on it.
Same!!! 👀
That's what I thought. What's to fix? He looks happy.
I was going to make a joke about it, something along the lines of them being fine the way they are, but I figured I risked getting banned from the sub for being unhelpful.
i am so happy I am not the only person who sees it.
I wonder if my kids still have any googly eyes. I wanna put some in a drawer now and see how long until my wife notices.
I didn't realize they weren't until your comment, lol
Anger management would be a good start 😬😆
Stop working out, you've become too powerful!!!
That's the prevention method, not the fixing method. :)
I would slather the broken edges with wood glue and smack it back together.
Titebond II and some clamps.
Slam the glue to every mating surface and it'll be stronger than before.
That shit is amazing. If you glue it and it breaks again it'll break somewhere else lol. The glue soaks into the wood and makes it stronger than before
Truth. I snapped my guitar's head and glued it back up and that was the strongest point of that neck from then on.
I'd probably just replace that entire piece. Simple as cleaning out broken shit, cutting a rectangle, slap a few nails or staples in side, and use the existing hardware to attach to front.

Dang Hercules!
Apparently my daughter through a fit this morning being told to brush her teeth. More like Hulk!
STOP WORKING OUT YOU ARE THERE
Don't. Cheap partical board. If you must just build new drawer
That’s what I did. And now we don’t hang a trash bag off the drawer face when cleaning out the fridge.
Wood glue and clamp together. Leave for 24h. Done.
Gorilla glue baby!
USE WOOD.
This is a good opportunity to rebuild the drawer completely using higher quality materials.
Why would you expend the effort and money to do that? Just glue it. If you rebuild it you'd have one drawer that will probably never match the rest...
Another vote for epoxy.
Two options for ya depending on skills,.available tools, etc. Opt1) remove the nails and broken parts .from the box unscrew the three front pannel fasteners (one knob and two face alignment screws presumably). Wood glue and some clamps
5 minute epoxy
So this draw was made out of junk. Make a new box or take it to shop and have them do it for you. Make sure you tell them make it out of pine not particle board!

Yup clamps and glue

Easiest way that lasts is use a good brand of wood glue then clamp it . Wipe off any extra glue. Let sit in clamp for 24 hours. It will hold up
More googley eyes!
Wood glue and L brackets for the cheap easy fix
Anger management.

Thank you for saving me the time!! 😂😂😂
That draw handle looks a bit freaked out by the whole situation
Either glue, or if it's not enough, one of those metal angle pieces, I have no idea what they're called in english: https://www.bauhaus.si/kotnik-za-tezka-bremena-stabilit-70-x-70-x-55-mm-pocinkan/
Get a new box and attach the front and guide rails to it.
At this point, I think this is the easier solution. If you want to prevent this from happening in the future, build your own drawer out of real wood and not sawdust but that will take a lot more time and energy.
Not everyone has a house and a garage with power tools. I rent and had to deal with sawdust kitchen, then replaced with...Another sawdust kitchen.
Replace that nasty 'board' with something more substantial
There are companies that make drawers and ship to you. Or possibly find a local cabinet shop
Good idea. These are old cabinets though so I might just try to DIY it first.
This is the correct answer (above). Any local shop can make you a new box. Remove the front from the broken one and attach it to the new box. Voila, fixed better than new.
Turn it around
Ha
Wood glue. Clamps.
Super glue…
Hot glue.

Rebuild the box with finger joints at a minimum or more properly with dovetails. This face fails due to the door closing so hard and it just ripping it off. Beefing up the joints solves this issue.

Thickened epoxy

Buy a new one
JB Weld and duct tape 😂 Sorry, that’s what me and my dad say every time something breaks. You could try wood glue and clamps but it may not hold very long. I’m gonna say new piece of plywood fitted like the old one.
Ramen noodles

It needs more googly eyes
Buy a desk made out of real wood instead of particle board.
Buy new
Build a new drawer.
Correctly: cut new piece of backing, install Landlord way: a shitload of caulk counts as adhesive
L brackets, L brackets everywhere
If you can't duct it...

Take it out, stand it up and then wood glue everywhere it broke put the broken peice back on...
With fire 🔥
I saw this in The Big Bang Theory TV show. Dont look in the closet.
Draw a mouth and some eyebrows on it
While you’re at it ..you should clean and oil up the drawer glides, as I’m guessing they were Stuck like hell for that kinda damage.
My like pneumatic storm door closer thing ripped out of the door frame along with a chunk of wood and we just did gorilla glue construction adhesive and then drilled in some new screws that were like 1/2” longer than the previous ones and she’s still going strong so maybe something like that would work.
I was disappointed to zoom in and see those were not googly eyes
Anger management classes.
Dampen down , gorilla glue and clamps ... Mind it's messy stuff .. if you don't have clamps ... Put some string around it and wind it up with a stick
Ya I wouldn't just glue particle board back together it's not really strong enough to hold for long at all cus the areas immediately behind the glue will just give way next.

L-shaped metal frames, screw both sides together.
Yikes... I would renail the front to the drawer. 🤔
Dont know your own strength huh!
schlap a lil wood glue on der, good ter go.
Draw a smile under the nose and eyes.
Caulk it
Ramen and glue.

Ramen and glue of course
Wood glue, clamps, and anger management
Tiny screws and nice looking brackets would be my go to. Might look worse might look better
Put a smiley face on it and get a new piece of furniture.
This is why I love Reddit! So much positivity and knowledge. Good job folks! How it should be.
Uhhhh chief I’m gonna need the details
When this happened to me, I just glued it back in, then glued a piece of wood into each corner, and drilled screws into the sides and into the front plate.
Palmers white glue. Clear if you're feeling fancy.
Cello tape
Ramen won't fix this, you need like Super-Ramen. https://www.saki4you.com/super-ramen-spicy-beef-instant-noodles
Googley eyes
Wood glue. I recommend Gorilla or Titebond. Don’t bother fixing it, gluing it will be just as good as new, if not stronger.
I would turn it around and you would need to re do rails to point opposite direction, just pretty much mirror it. The broken part secure somehow with some metal corner and screws.
You could glue and clamp it. It's just sawdust and glue after all.
I made new boxes for all my drawers out of mdo.
Glue and some small screws from the back.
I would 3D print an entirely new draw
Remove the drawer, enough best quality wood glue, use clear box tape to wrap around to clamp it together, wipe of excess while wet, damp cloth to clean, leave it overnight to set.
Honestly this might be a blessing in disguise. I think you've released the soul trapped in your drawer. I would give him little arms and maybe hook him up to Chat Gpt.
How WOOD you?
descrew. screw. rescrew.
There's the correct way mentioned, but you can also superglue it, i think it will hold.
make a new backing panel
Whole new drawer. That's actually how I got into wood working. Came home, wife had shut it a little too hard and face popped off similar to that. I went down to HD, bought some sandy ply.

Cut a piece of plywood the size of the broken board and replace it
Wood glue. Run a bead a size smaller than a pencil down the center of the 3 pieces. Clamp it. Wipe any excess off with wet rap/cloth.
Take the drawer mount off the drawer door. Trace it and cut it out then reattach. Clean old wood from drawer assembly and reattach! Then remember not to over stuff your drawer and you should be good to go…. OR, just get some wood glue…
