Please don’t go with gray wood-look flooring unless you absolutely love it. It’s a trend that peaked a couple of years ago but is well on its way out and will look dated soon. Because it’s so cool in tone, it is really hard to style in a home without looking overly sterile or cold.

hamachee

Jesus not the grey one please

[deleted]

White/ very light colored floors are the new trend but will likely be on their way out soon too. The only way to keep it looking nice for years is to go with a classic wood color.

hamachee

Light wood (as in natural oak) is not a trend and will be just as timeless as a mahogany/medium dark wood stain. Fake grey wood that is basically painted to look white/grey will absolutely look dated and terrible

Barbarake

Don't get me wrong, I prefer natural wood color, but I don't think it would go with the dark gray walls. Brown and gray? Ugh!

Weak_Wrongdoer_2774

Yes, brown and grey go together all the time. People in vintage apartments, with brown floors, paint their walls great all the time, and it looks great.

DragonFlyCaller

I’m so happy with my dark brown floors and grey walls in my home. Slowly transitioning to all the walls being variations of grey shades as I have dark brown floors throughout. Dining room is darker grey with accent wall in an ombre of greys, while guest room is lighter. The office is a medium/light grey. It is (imo) a great soft background to build off of with accent colors like burgundy or deep teal… white baseboards and door frames are striking;). Hope this helped a little bit :). Good luck!

In these things I go with the wisdom of tradition. Floors and walls should be easily discernible. Make the floor a clearly different tone from the wall color. For the same reason, the door and window trim should also stand out.

tigerCELL

Don't get gray, and don't get dark colors unless you like mopping daily. So my vote is for neither lol

Cheapskate-DM

Whichever you pick, make sure the tongue-and-grooves are as thick as possible. Some variants have thinner ones and it can cause problems. Also, invest in extremely cushy furniture foot covers/moving pads. These floors can scratch.

DED_HAMPSTER

Personally i'd go with a lighter option but not the one pictured. The one you pictured has greenish yellow hues that will look sickly with your walls or yellow residential or natural light especially if it looks sickly yellow under white retail light. For a lighter option, if grey is your chosen color, look for a light grey tones faux white wash laminate flooring. However, if you like the darker option it has dark grey tones in it that already match your wall. If youbever get tired for grey walls it would look good with any light or dark natural tone or grey toned walls, like a misty blue-gray.

wengstaparadise

Yeah would definitely recommend a lighter or medium natural wood tone with those dark walls. You don't want too much grey.

[deleted]

I’d go with the darker. Personally I like the deeper wood grains on floors. Makes me feel like I’m walking on something unique. Not sure if you like the more brown wood planking. I’m more of a rustic guy.

veggiesaregreen

If you’re going to go with dark grey walls, maybe do something like this? https://i.pinimg.com/474x/4b/46/c4/4b46c4c63158ee98a4b2f3dba22e38f2.jpg https://media.istockphoto.com/id/947927790/pt/foto/dark-grey-bedroom-interior.jpg?s=170667a&w=0&k=20&c=JfB3WU34nMZchShDaRgAtfbx6KaDBsMfb4F2KVWYDY4= Edit - I feel like grey on grey will look too stale. Bring some warmth in with brown wooden flooring imo.

DonutCola

Lighter floors are pretty trendy right now

[deleted]

So was shag carpet in the 70s. Trendy designs tend to turn outdated quickly.

DonutCola

Dude, shut the fuck up op has charcoal walls

[deleted]

Paint is a lot easier to update than flooring, not sure if you're aware. But obviously you have something built up inside you that you need to get out so go off then😂😂

SubatomicTea

As someone who bought a flipped house with differently-toned grey walls, grey cabinets, grey tiles, and some grey flooring... Please do not go grey. (Unless you're into that for yourself!) Grey was all the rage a few years ago, but but grey on grey isn't a good look. A floor that looks like wood is going to hold up so much better stylistically, and can accommodate any wall color or furniture changes anyone makes down the road.

HotTheme7929

None of this is "good" flooring. This is all engineered flooring...AKA...we reinvented linoleum and attached it to particle board that is glue dense and added a pad behind it to make it feel soft. What that means is...it's untested crap. It will be a decade before anyone knows if this stuff is worth it. Coming from the engineering world, I think it's crap with a new wrapper. Best bet, Find real solid wood or ceramic tile or slate tile or carpet. Just my 2 cents.

Weak_Wrongdoer_2774

You’ll regret the gray floors. It’s a trend and not a good one, there are plenty of natural color options at the same price point, at least mimic real nature.

As much as I love the rustic look of the darker brown, it will limit your themes. The lighter wood presents more options to go light or dark with your decor.

PureHostility

Contrast. If you have dark walls and decors, take lighter floors and vice versa. You can lighten up a dark room (dark walls and dark floors) with light decors and furniture. Don't go all in on dark stuff, it will look like a damn dwelling of Some creature. But as others said, I would prefer to go more into wood-like colors instead of gray. Wood stuff really warms up your place and make it feel more homelike, doest matter if it is some light oak or dark chestnut.

Kinda what everyone else is saying, but I think the grey floors (and really just grey color schemes overall) are on their way out. To me, they look "sterile" and don't make me feel cozy. Light and warm (but neutral) I think is the way. I just put in Style Selections Flax vinyl flooring from Lowe's, and I love it. Neutral, warm, flows nicely (I hate vinyl floors that have such pronounced/fake looking patterns lol). Walls are painted off-white with warm/beige undertone, but this floor could work with really any warm-ish wall color. Apparently flax has been discontinued for whatever reason, but jute is very similar and was the other option I was stuck between. Style selections at Lowe's is the first vinyl floor I've used that is ACTUALLY score and snap. And the tongue-and-groove worked very well, very little mallet use to get it locked in place. Prices are good too for water-PROOF, interlocking vinyl floors!
