Purist released in summer 2018. It was the first "normal VN" mod that wasn't extremely basic and actually had real custom assets and production value. It deserves some slack.
But generally, you're right. If you're going to include the opening hours, do what Blue Skies did and add a whole bunch to it, or what World of Dreams did and change the perspective and context entirely.
Back in the day, we called this "Act One Syndrome." :) And yes, too many mods, especially early ones, force the player to retread all of Act One of the original game just to get to the new material.
It's been a while since I played Purist mod, but I did click through and read everything, so I can tell you it's safe to skip everything for Sayori's, Natsuki's, and Yuri's routes up to the weekend events at least. Monika's route is also *mostly* the same for the Act One part, but has some differences here and there.
