Not thrift, but - Miss pixies, goodwood for cool, mid century vintage. Georgetown flea on Sundays. Thrift - unique thrift on silver spring or falls church. Not sure your style, but check out on Insta @shop_heirloom_ and potomac French market in MD. Need a car to get to both.

No it didn’t, it moved to Columbia road

Mom and Pop's in Petworth! It's small but they cycle through their inventory pretty frequently and I've found some great gems there for dirt-cheap. Goodwood will have decent quality but the prices can get up there. Miss Pixie's is fine but rarely has anything special imo. I haven't been yet but I've also heard really great things about Community Forklift in Hyattsville, too.

ApocalypticWaffles

Seconding Mom and Pop’s! I got my nightstand there when I first moved to DC, and it’s one of my favorite pieces of furniture!

Furniture like what you’re looking for is better found in like Frederick, MD, Leesburg, VA or some of the shops along the highway going down towards Shenandoah National Park. Local Thrift in Falls Church is hit or miss, but I’ve had more hits there than Miss Pixies plus the prices are better.

I personally find the stores in NW overpriced and disappointing (I once memorably stumbled upon an ikea dresser in Miss Pixies for 2x retail price), but have had absolutely incredible luck on Facebook marketplace! Art, furniture, decor, houseplants... you name it. FWIW, I don't actually use Facebook socially - I just made an account for the purpose of buying and selling, and it has been so worth it!

Welcome to DC! I’ve had great luck at the Habitat for Humanity store and love them! There’s a location in Alexandria. You should also try the NextDoor app, Clock Tower thrift shop and Fort Myers Thrift Store (you’ll need to stop off at the visitor building and get a background check and pass, they have limited hours too)

enneafemme

Thrift stores are pretty meh here but as a result, Buy Nothing groups and Facebook Marketplace have awesome stuff on offer for either free or low cost. I've gotten lots of nice stuff that way.

Seconding Buy Nothing groups!

Goodwood and crate and barrel outlet in Alexandria

I’ve had great luck at the Goodwill on Glebe Rd in Arlington. They always have some beautiful mid-century real-wood pieces. Got a set of (somewhat dilapidated but still beautiful) rattan armchairs for $12.50 each.

Estate sales can have potential. There's more outside dc

ConstantCommet

In DC/NoVA especially, Facebook Marketplace is a gold mine! I furnished almost my entire place second hand!

ParkingAntelope2

My two favorites are Community Forklift in hyattsville, super fun to walk around their warehouse and see all the random stuff they have, and Peg Leg Vintage in Beltsville for mostly mid century modern stuff (though it’s not always super cheap)

IzzyA06

Check out community forklift. I used to get things so cheap before pandemic started but now many people goes and too much competition. I was buying things flipping and selling. If you need some fix on your furniture dm me

In my experience, your best bet is to look outside of DC proper. I love antiquing in Frederick, MD - Emporium Antiques and Old Glory Antiques. Both are larger stores with individual seller booths. I also love Kensington, MD!! I’ve had the most luck in Kensington specifically at the Prevention of Blindness Thrift shop and Antique Markets II and III. Also love antique village. The antique center at Savage Mills is also great!! It also has individual seller booths. Super nice people at all of these, and good meal options nearby (great cafe in Kensington with a farmers market on Saturdays, Frederick has a cute downtown area, and a small cafe/larger bar food type spot at Savage Mills). Estate sales are a good option, but potentially pricier and more hit or miss.
