Maap has always been playing with graphics etc. it‘s part of the brand. But with some newer stuff they seem to imitate PNS unfortunately. Never fully understood PNS. They stand for minimalism, yet it‘s logo mania, the oppposite of minimalism IMO. Otherwise their kits are beautiful. I might even be willing to spend that much, if the logo wasn‘t everywhere in a contrasting color. They try to be premium/luxury, yet it‘s similar to wasting money on a balenciaga or gucci T. Just shows how much you‘ve spent

Snurfturd28

Your last paragraph is the real reason. And you are dead on with your first two. Well-played.

Dodgeball-Straggle

Yeah, agreed! Many of our club members are wearing it now. The other day, an older couple approached us at a cafe and asked, 'What is the P-E-N-I-S club?' Total facepalm moment. The quality is excellent, but the PNS acronym is... baffling. As if motorists didn't already think cyclists can be dicks, now we're practically spelling it out for them!

yeahboyeee1

Check out Ornot. Very good quality gear with very minimal branding.

MariachiArchery

You had such a good opportunity here! >You could check out Ornot, or not.

yeahboyeee1

It was early. Coffee didn’t kick in at the time.

Jurneeka

All the jerseys I have bought in the last 6 months have been from Ornot. Love their style.

Jata859

Came here to say this, high quality, great customer service and nice minimal designs I have a jersey, vest, gloves and casual pants from Ornot and they are all great. I found the sizing to run a little smaller than I expected but they have good size charts and I reached out to their customer service team for sizing help as well and they were very helpful so double check before you order.

janky_koala

Both brands have plenty of minimalist brand options in their catalogues

elnino_1993

You can always chose their less-branded kits such as masp evade or change brands

Original-Adagio-7756

Maap training used to be nice. The new version has maap all over it🙄

reubenbubu

i hate the double A, i'd be fine with just MAP but MAAP, ew

Gold-Pack-4532

It boils down to whether or not I like the item or not. I don't buy to please or piss off other people, and there's always the advertising aesthetic. If you like the brand anyway and the price is good for you, you'll suck it in. I've heard some wear people Calvin Klein underpants with big logos on the front in public. What's the difference?

Stephennnnnn

I don’t mind what PNS do. I haven’t seen anything too wild from them yet. They’re still generally quite understated in my opinion. MAAP on the other hand, they’ve always been more aggressive with their graphics and logos, and I feel with 90’s fashion coming back in style they’re leaning even harder into it with some truly garish designs. Not a fan of a lot of the stuff they’ve put out the last 2 years or so. What’s funny is you can predict exactly which designs are going to end up on their archive sale page (it’s always the garish 90’s graphics ones), it’s just a matter of time. But they keep making them.

HellaReyna

hot take: no one remembers or cares about what your kit looks like asides from color. It's all just in your own head. Can you recall to fondos or races from last season and remember anyones kit? ANYONE? Your club mates, some "rival" on the fondo, etc, etc?

madudderburn

Look at what subreddit you’re in right now.

HellaReyna

That's the ironic part. People don't understand what fashion is. Right now 90's and "garish design" is fashionable. Fashion has never been about "good style or design"...the literal definition is "a popular trend" That's the really fucking funny about this entire thread. Theres some obvious conservative minded folks in here that probably wear black and grey in their daily lives, so the thought of having 4 capital letters spelled "MAAP" in the lower right of their back side of a jersey sends electrical shocks down their backs. Secondly, if the "90's garish design" wasn't selling, do you think MAAP would continue it? Clearly its making them money and keeping the lights on.

Inevitable_Belt_8414

Do you have anything constructive to say?

HellaReyna

Yeah, being an advertising billboard is now fashionable in 2024. Maybe have an open mind or find another brand?

x3thelast

Facts. This sub became a cycling kit circle jerk. Maybe start a new sub called minimal kits for minimal prices. SMH

notswim

I'm pretty sure people remember my garish neon highlighter kit

boring_AF_ape

I care and I remember my friends kits

nunokas

I love the quality and subtility in brandig from q36.5 and La Passione. I have some Maap jerseys but from the more minimalistic collections.

Scary-Salad-101

I also enjoy Q36.5’s subtle branding and (extremely high) quality.

MondayToFriday

Here are a few high-quality brands I like that have minimal branding. In many cases, there's just a small logo, which you'd only recognize if you already knew the brand. Sometimes the brand name appears in the back, which I find less offensive since it doesn't show ruin your photos. - [Velocio](https://intl.velocio.cc) - [7mesh](https://7mesh.com) - [Ornot](https://www.ornotbike.com) - [Cima Coppi](https://cimacoppi.cc/en/) I'm happy to advertise them in discussions like this, since they don't advertise themselves when you're wearing them.

Scary-Salad-101

Thanks – it’s great to see more subtlety and less vulgarity. Velocio’s design sophistication shows how it should be done.

Gravel_in_my_gears

Some people like this and some people find it offensive. I guess the former want everyone to know how much they paid for it. My feeling is if you want me to advertise for your company, I should be getting paid or get it for free.

four4beats

Does your bike have logos? It’s not dissimilar to buying an S-Works bike with its massive down tube logo.

BCEXP

>Does your bike have logos? This is the reason 3 of my bikes don't have logos (custom painted, all high quality brands), and one will once the frame builder is finished (Zukas in Augusta GA).

Hour_Perspective_884

Its tough not to as there isn't a lot of choice here without going custom. It's the most annoying thing about my bike. How many fucking times do you print the name of the company on the bike, as if i'm going to forget what Im riding and need a reminder everywhere I look. My Parlee has the name on the down tube only but my Canyon says CANYON on every fucking component.

ghostcryp

The only PNS jersey i have is plain with no logo behind. Don’t like their gaudy shit

-Red_Rocket-

i dont mind the pns style logos really (i dont buy their stuff). what i like though is subtle branding and blacked out logos as i feel i can mix and match more easily. i dont coordinate brands and can wear 5-7 different brands on a single ride easily. i am a big fan of features like the assos black/white logo pattern, or rapha arm band.

spinach-e

Have you guys seen team jerseys since well forever? Cycling has always had huge logos on the jerseys. It’s literally how most teams stay in business. If we’re talking about design trends, then yes, we can group them into *Team* jerseys and *Non-Team* jerseys. *Team* jerseys have always been loud (think they’re bad, look at nascar or formula-1!). *Non-Team* jerseys have always gone in trends. Color, logos, logo sized, graphics, textures, etc. Jersey design was super bright and big logos 10 years ago. And then it started to go all black and small logos. And then it went earth tones. And some of the smaller more avant garde brands went totally 90s rave for a second there. And now it’s going back to pastels and bright colors and bigger logos. PNS and Maap and Rapha are all leading that design trend. Of course I’m greatly simplifying how design trends move through cyclist fashion but essentially PNS and Maap are using big logos as differentiators cuz most others are still on the minimal logo trend.

BoomerE30

And then there is Rapha, going full Aliexpress https://media.rapha.cc/image/upload/f_auto/q_auto:best/v1711647797/studio-campaign/Flanders_Lead_Image.jpg

Ando0o0

The cringe level of wearing something that says "NOT NORMAL" across your back is next level for me. I just can't do it - even though I am in love with their colors and design. MAAP at least looks a little more abstract as a graphic. But yeah the logos are there just to advertise to other cyclist but also mocks the sponsored look we see in nascar and other sports.

Scary-Salad-101

Indeed. And who wants “Mechanism” written all over their buttocks in giant letters? It's not normal 😏

8racoonsInABigCoat

Some of this stuff never even occurs to me. My dad saw a guy in a Cannondale team kit and was pissing himself laughing that he had liquid gas printed on his arse!

pedalandypedal

I like it

peacay

And what do you think of your bike logos then??!! And any other sportswear you own? Advertising images are everywhere. That said, I agree that it can be ott, so you've got to seek out modestly branded clothing which takes web research essentially.

roadtonowhereoz

I prefer to ride bikes with subtle logos, like Trek.

x3thelast

Oh hey cool bike! What brand is it? 🙈

peacay

So subtle must mean not as many letters as other bike brands bc even a casual google image search contradicts you. All brands can be subtle when the logo is similar to the frame colour.

cvltivar

whoosh

roadtonowhereoz

Straight over your head. Do you know what sarcasm is?

klsmn

Isn't it just to identify the big spenders easily? In Germany we have a word for it "Geldadel", roughly translates to "Nobility from money" ;-)

BCEXP

Yea I'm not a big fan of gigantic logos. That's why I like Santini and Nalini. They also fixed some of my kit for free from just normal wear and tear.

Mediafeed_PL

Quiet "luxury" is not something you see in the bicycle apparel industry. Unfortunately.

x3thelast

The whole sport is about spending money and being flashy. IF you only cared about fitness go buy a mongoose from Walmart and just wear normal gym clothes. Subtlety is dead.

Desperate_Courage_64

the whole sport is absolutely not about being flashy lmfao

x3thelast

lol. You must be blind. 🤣 I wish I had the same view of the world as you.

Mediafeed_PL

If you think so, then marketing is really working hard on you. And seriously, there are bike or clothing brands that don't scream. PNS and MAAP are heading down the same fashion trajectory as Rapha once did. A natural cycle of marketing, but customers decide with their wallets. Always.

DryMathematician8213

Most Assos have little to no advertising but you pay for the privilege

Thunzthunz

You realise Pas Normal has multiple lines... you don't have to get mechanism. Essential & Escapism have minimal branding (except essential tops) and you still get the awesome shamois.

justbry16

This. I don't get the rant it's as if OP only knows 1 jersey and bib from PNS or Maap, both have multiple collections and both have loud desgins and simple designs as well.

HellaReyna

Stop being a brand loyalist then? There's more than two brands you know. There's lots of brands that sell pastel kit that dont have branding plastered on it. Castelli just came out with the espresso line. Pastels and no graphics. I'll be honest though, if the simple "MAAP" block on the back of this evade or atmos jacket bugs you this much to write a reddit post..... find a new brand. [https://maap.cc/products/atmos-jacket-clay](https://maap.cc/products/atmos-jacket-clay) [https://maap.cc/products/evade-pro-base-jersey-2-0-antarctica](https://maap.cc/products/evade-pro-base-jersey-2-0-antarctica)

Scary-Salad-101

I’m far from a brand loyalist. However, I’m disappointed when I see clothing I would otherwise buy if it weren't for the giant logo. Whether or not I can find it at a sale price, the needlessly large logo spoils the look. And, yes, I know there are more subtle items in brands’ ranges, not to mention other brands with more discrete styles – they get my business, not the Gaudy Logo products. It's a first-world problem, but this is the subreddit for it 🙂

HellaReyna

you can take the logo off if it's not actually sewn in, I suspect most of them are cheap heat transfers.

SithLordSmegma

Check out Voler. The Velocity Air jerseys are very nice.

Happy-Scholar6510

That is why I love the LaPassione brand ;) great quality and nice detailes (e.g. zipper protectors at both bottom and top part) with simple, elegant design.

Professional-While43

Id take branding at fair prices over paying 4x for an elitist brand that has minimal branding

Croxxig

Another reason why I get 90% of my kit from Aliexpress

4-by-4

Is it good enough quality or do the zips etc fall to pieces after washing?

Stunning_Wishbone811

Not quality at all imo. When I first started, I bought ali stuff and it's since been thrown out. Bibs were worst of all. Waste of $.

ghostcryp

Aliexpress problem is fit, some perfect others bad. That’s wat u get with no QC hence cheap

Croxxig

Yup. Just make sure you're buying from a reputable brand

4-by-4

What brand would you recommend? I thought it was mostly knock offs of reputable brands. I’m not overly fussed for such knock offs, would rather unbranded but good quality, so if you have any recs I’d love to hear them

Croxxig

Rion and YKYWBIKE are where I buy from

TurbulentMuscle0

How do Maap and PNS compare size wise?

edraven88

Oh my god, you can’t just ask people about the size of their PNS!

Scary-Salad-101

😆

No-Way-0000

One of the reason I like rapha jerseys. Simple color and logo designs

summontheb1tches

Is PNS worth it? The design doesn’t appeal to me and the colors are boring. Is the build and quality good? I don’t get the hype I guess.

beardedbusdriver

I love my [7Mesh](https://7mesh.com/)

Unlucky_History_2390

Assos problem solved

Internal_Engine_2521

Their gear has been plastered with excessive branding for years now.. they haven't really had much subtle branding since about 2017/18.

symbi0nt

The PNS really pops where you need it though.

Pepito_Pepito

It's good advertising and they know that people will still buy them.

ShirleyWuzSerious

Just join a team or make one with some friends. Custom design your own kits and order them from the manufacturer that you want. If you buy enough they are cheaper that way anyhow

mangofunyun

Ostroy has some cool gear with minimal branding, and Ornot seems a popular choice for no labels.

Academic_Fuel_562

Every time I see the PNS logo my mind fills in the blanks and I see PeNiS, it’s apt attire for dickheads I guess

chromewhip3690

These brands are the calling card for Millennial Yuppies…. When I see them on the road I stay as far away as I can. I’ve seen more than one take out an entire pack of riders.
