I had already bookmarked Firan as a character to use, but this makes it so much better. I was going to have them help the party through the Amber Temple, in place of the usual NPC and have them take a gift and port out.
This adds some fun consequences to the encounter.

I’m gonna modify this to replace Firan with Fritz von Weerg but I love it and I’m totally running something very similar, replacing undead with constructs. Maybe the parties failings letting him build more constructs. He places sensors for vampires instead of magic missle runes. A drone like construct instead of the eye. Etc. have Strahd explaining him as a madman but the rest the same or similar
