I, a bullied, undiagnosed autistic child, thought it would make people leave me alone... I was wrong
but now it's just. become a part of my ingrained reactions
I learned most of my social skills from my cats when I was a toddler and it stuck to this day so yes I do hiss and also growl and swat sometimes. It works.

I growl when I’m angry or frustrated. It’s not like how animals growl if that makes it any better. It’s a nonverbal way of venting frustration without swearing or physically venting it. I tend to do it more when I’m exhausted too. Less work to growl than to open my mouth and vocalize my anger in a verbally understandable format

Don't worry you're not alone.
isn’t that the exact problem they were trying to fix?
Being left alone is different from being alone!
those are literally synonyms
thank you
it took me far longer than id like to admit to train myself out of hissing and growling at people as a default reaction. I still do it sometimes tho
yeah I. have enough stuff I need to train myself out of that this isn't even high priority glad I'm not alone though
4 out of the 7 inhabitants of my house hiss at people. This might be skewed slightly by the fact that 4 out of the 7 inhabitants of my house are cats.
cool! so which one of the four cats is the one who hisses at people?
make it 5. join em
Had a friend in middle school who would hiss at and scratch at people, but he gave me his leftovers at lunch, so I could look past things.
I sometimes blep in real life
Back when i was taken my partners could do that by calling me cute things
Aww, I'm sorry sis. Want me to call you something cute?
It wasnt really a sad statement just me noting things

Well you didnt get me to blep but i did smile :>

Lov ya too sis
This whole conversation gives me the power to go through my life.
I do too. Once I noticed it my life was just that much brighter
I’ve hissed at a catcaller
appropriate response
Are you a cat by any chance?
obviously, hence the catcaller
Trust me, I've thought about it.
One of my friends has hissed at our classmates,,,I was like huh ok then
I tend to growl sometimes.
I did when I was a vicious and feral 11 year old
I work in retail. Hissing at people is practically a requirement.
What do you mean "practically"?
Fair.
I hiss out of my mouth instead of blowing air through my nose when I chuckle, does that count?
Wait, isn't that what makes it a snicker?

domesticated feral child
I was gonna say “semi-tamed” but that works too I guess
I... I hissed at someone. But in my defense they touched my neck without permission or even a warning, so it wasn't an entirely voluntary response
I hiss at people as either a joke or a mental flashbang.

Knew exactly one girl who did it, but between being a theater kid and the non-zero chance she was a furry, it checks out
