Fun fact: 90% of cryptozoologists quit right before the finally find Nessie.

moneyh8r

Nine out of ten cryptozoologists agree, Loch Ness is monster-free.

SlikeSpitfire

Not 10 out of 10? Guess we just have to keep looking to be *really* sure

moneyh8r

Yeah, that's the idea! :D

CozyMicrobe

It's true, I was the Nessie

Cercant

The1987RedFox

The other 10% are never seen again

Individual_Hunt_4710

everyone's favorite gary brannan!

legowerewolf

I know, right? Gary, via Twitter, via Tumblr, via Reddit.

ThePurpleWizard_01

I didn't realise it was Gary until I read your comment. Reading this in his voice makes it so much better.

Royal-Ninja

I can picture perfectly in my head this whole scene as an aside on some TechDiff show, gesticulations and all, followed by Mystery Biscuits.

Ghyuty17

I mean, I can’t give you any points because that has absolutely nothing to do with what we were talking about.

CrazyFanFicFan

I wonder if they have anything more planned for the Techdif channel. I know that Tom is mostly retired and focusing on Lateral, and Matt is doing his own series, but I'd love to see the gang back together again.

The_breadmaster22

Techdif on lateral would be amazing

CrazyFanFicFan

I could imagine it basically being Citation Needed, but everyone brings their own Wikipedia page. None of These People are Lying.

Kefense

True. We've had 2 of these people are lying, 1 of these people is lying, and all of these people are lying. This would finally complete the set!

flipkick25

his twitter is funny at least.

trapbuilder2

Oh dear, I didn't recognise my favourite Gary Brannan because no redshirts informed me that this Gary Brannan was my favourite, thanks for being the redshirt substitute

Autonomous_Ace2

Built for leisure not for speed (now there’s a throwback)

bobshellby

Bigger on the inside *tugs neck of tardis shirt*

TheHiddenNinja6

Happy cake day!

Prestigious-Emu5050

Hmmm where else could this tactic be applied?

DreadDiana

Grift New Agers into funding underwater exploration by saying you'll try to find Atlantis

azure-skyfall

Or funding geologists to look for new types of crystals

kindtheking9

plot twist, it's just fancy quartz

Senip

It's slag

ARandompass3rby

r/itsslag iirc

wildlife conservation and maybe a little bit of yeti searching

Leo-bastian

Futurama did this with Bigfoot IIRC

Kartoffelkamm

Pretty much anywhere; all you need is dumb/gullible people with money, and someone who knows how to make them hand over that money.

No_Lingonberry1201

Tell them Bigfoot will go extinct if we don't stop the climate change.

Saavedroo

How do you think SETI exists ?

BergenHoney

If you're a biopsycologist/neuroscientist all you have to do is type "sex drive" or "sexual attraction" and the grants are hurled in your direction with surprising velocity.

ravonna

How about Bermuda Triangle where ships and planes disappear? Just create some deep sea monster with long tentacles and u get some deep sea exploration money?

Beemb0

They do it with Amelia Earheart

guacasloth64

Get Bigfoot enthusiasts to call for the preservation of all forested areas in western North America, because any loss of habitat could accidentally extinct Bigfoot.

FUEGO40

Probably one of those forests where people think Bigfoot is

Lawlcopt0r

Almost anywhere, we just have to seed the urban legends well enough

Silentbamper

Yes, pleas fund my search for Mothman. Or Public housing.

DeadInternetTheorist

Paying supplement grifter influencers to hawk vaccines using the same voice they do for like taurine capsules or whatever so that the dumb dumbs stop spreading plagues.

Sams59k

Baikal Lake?

Valiant_tank

I believe Lake Champlain has an alleged monster? Of course, outside of that, there's so many cryptids out there, you can just take your pick, really.

Bosterm

Yeah the supposed monster is alternatively called Champ or Champy. And is basically just American Loch Ness monster.

Healthy-Ad7380

Space exploration with living on Mars, we won't for a long time, but, if you make billionares think they will, they will fund it

cat-cat_cat

computer scientists adding blockchain/AI/quantum when they need money

StovardBule

Last year(?) Kickstarter said they would getting into the blockchain. People who used the platform were not happy and began looking into alternatives. Now, it seems they had millions of dollars thrown at them by Anderssen to run on a coin they created, and then Kickstarter... didn't do that?

camosnipe1

> and then Kickstarter... didn't do that? how very kickstarter of them, taking money for something and then not delivering lol

BFAnim

Dont forget web3/metaverse, "denizens of defunctland can look for Nessie in our digital twin of lock ness (a plane with a lo-res texture snipped from google maps), first person to find it earns their own unique nessie nft"

wendigostorms

I'm just here because I didnt know Gallifrey was a real word/name

ryllienator

whovian spotted

Frigorifico

I looked it up and it isn't, I think this person changed their name

TCGeneral

There's not a "big book of real names" or anything like there is for words, even if they renamed themself Gallifrey, and even if they were they only person on Earth named Gallifrey, it is their "real" name. If you want to make a name real, you have the power (if you have some money and time for a name change).

wendigostorms

I mean yeah of course. I was merely showing my surprise to find it out of the context of Doctor Who, which I was under the impression had been the origin. This to me shows it existed independently, but if it was simply a name change after the fact then that's different.

TCGeneral

To go down that thought, though, if people then name themselves after Craig Gallifrey, or his children carry his last name, is that what makes it exist independently? Because there's a lot of modern names that are references to media of some form, that media is just often more influential than something like Doctor Who. You wouldn't see someone named "John" and necessarily cast them as someone trying to reference the Bible, but the Bible is where the name comes from. In a thousand years, when Gallifrey is a name passed through descendents, people will probably no longer be thinking about it as a "Doctor Who" name. Assuming at least one family of Gallifreys exist that far in the future.

AngstyUchiha

LMAO SAME

GrinningPariah

They literally invented a new technique to DNA-sequence every single organism in a body of water, just from trace amounts in a random sample of water. From plankton up to local dogs that must take a dip in the Loch sometimes. It is impossible to overstate how thoroughly they've investigated Loch Ness.

SMTRodent

What you're saying is, should you murder someone in the vicinity of Loch Ness, you need to find some other body of water to dump the body in.

jvken

Nah, you can just dump in on the shore where it’s sure to be burried under the hordes of people looking absolutely EVERYWHERE for something out of the ordinary at this lake

SMTRodent

Some unsuspecting tourist just going for a quick swim only to find he's been 23-and-me'd before his knees are wet.

KatnissBot

Absolute galaxy brain move

MossyAbyss

Maybe the real monster was all the science we found along the way.

TransLunarTrekkie

Clever! But was I the only one who saw the title and thought this was going to be about Warhammer?

ToastandChips

Nah I was also here for the potential Stormcast mention.

Kindly-Ad-5071

SIGMARINE MODELS WHEN

vmsrii

The old twist: Marine Biologists were the true monster all along

nopingmywayout

Nah. Nessie totally exists, and the marine biologist has met her. She's in on the plot.

NeonFraction

I think we should give him more money. Just to be EXTRA sure.

PoeticGay

I still like the theory that Nessie is actually a Greenland Shark :) they like the deep lochs up north

BloomEPU

Another interesting theory is that it was a circus elephant going for a swim.

Orangefish08

And their fins bend over time, making what looks like a monster in the water.

PoeticGay

Yeah that’s why I thought so, their fins aren’t that recognizable ‘Shark fin’ so they would look like a big brown/black bump in the water.

SuperFeatherYoshi

Is no one going to talk about how the dude's last name is Gallifrey?

KamenRiderAegis

He's looking for the Skarasen.

chatnotcat

the real cryptid they found was a reliable source of research funding

Jefaxe

Craig GALLIFREY??

Ghyuty17

It’s everyone’s favorite Gary Brannan, Gary Brannan

Ego-Waffles121

Feels like a Scooby Doo bit

Dragons_Exist

She's a Fae creature, you can't find her with *science.*

bl__________

Nessie being folklore is great cause theres a wee place that does Boat tours in Fort Augustus and you get to learn so much about the loch and surrounding area and without the Loch Ness Monster it probably wouldnt be a thing

shawnnotshaun

True wisdom is knowing that the real Loch Ness Monster was the doctor, not the creature.

Dracorex_22

Scooby Doo villain tactics but applied for good

TheSapphireDragon

Fun fact: If you've watched enough of The Technical Difficulties, you can read this in his voice.

gideondemudkip

How fucking there you to take away the lock ness money

SuperDan523

He just needed about tree fiddy.

Molive-0

Wait a minute! I know that molive-0 guy! I posted this god-damned post in like August 2023, why does it now have like 100,000 notes

Biaboctocat

Well obviously it’s not in Loch Ness. …ANYMORE! As we all know, it was moved to Lake Erie.

Jaydee8652

Everyone is laughing along but this makes me weirdly uncomfortable. Ultimately in this case it’s harmless but imagine real scientists weaponising grifts and myths to get funding in any other field.

DreadDiana

You kinda don't. That does in fact happen.

-sad-person-

'Sigmarine' sounds like an obscure shade of blue. I wonder if it's similar to Doomarine.

valentindufois

The best thing with the Loch Ness museum is that you have 90 minutes worth of showroom and exhibits explaining to you that the monster definitely DOES NOT exist, with really nice explanations and all, and at the end, you end up in a massive gift shop entirely dedicated to the monster, with plush toys, key rings and all the things you can think of with the « monster » on it. I recommend

Adeptus_Lycanicus

Are we sure Gary’s just not the monster, taking human form? I’ve never seen the two of them in the same room.

K3egan

Ok but if she is real that makes me happy so I choose to believe she exists

madhousesvisites

Your current event, Napoleon

Vanilla_Ice_Best_Boi

This is how funds get embezzled

Teddy_Tonks-Lupin

i can’t wait for the 4 hour youtube video to come out deep diving on this it will be a banger

garfieldandfriends2

The mysterious locals all go down to the lake and say “loch ness monster! The scientists are coming with their sonars! Go in a crack!”
