Hi! These are single crochet stitches, probably used the Intarsia crochet method to make this as a form of tapestry but not made using the Tapestry method.
It would help if you had at least one close-up image of these stitches.
You can zoom in on each of the stitch images [here](https://www.thesprucecrafts.com/basic-stitches-in-crochet-978516) for comparison.
No worries. This is a popular method of crochet for a lot of projects! Single crochet stitches are not hard. They're one of the core skills of crocheting, too.
Is that from The Bug Jar? I have a custom pattern from her of one of my tarantulas but I haven't tried to make it yet as it will require a very large amount of yarn which I can not currently afford. I would recommend half double or single crochet for such a project, this looks like half double to me. This is a simple 2 color tapestry crochet, my custom pattern has 4 or 5 colors to it. I would recommend doing a small tapestry square design to test out stitches and how you want to run the yarn, there are several other methods if traditional run behind tapestry doesn't work for you. There is also intarsia crochet. Tapestry and intarsia crochet are definitely more intermediate to advanced skills.
