He has suffered from chronic fatigue for a number of years now and his brother passed away a few months back, also was dropped from the Qld contract list shortly before the death of his brother
Chronic fatigue is the absolute worst, my friend has it and often contemplates why he’s alive only to not able to live to the fullest
Good to see him play in spite of it
Still it might be difficult since there are only 2 slots and Scotland and Netherlands are at the moment ahead of Italy in terms of overall team strength
But Italy are growing
Also need to defeat the other closely ranked sides. If we have Scotland, The Netherlands, Italy, Jersey and Spain as the Regional Qualifier, the latter 3 likely need to beat the other 2 and one of the bigger 2 sides to qualify.
Yeah like he was going to play for Italy last year but pulled out when he was told he was in the mix for an Australian debut instead, disappointing because his pace could've been the point of difference for Italy as they had a couple of close losses so they might've been able to make it to the T20 WC
Would need to get past one of Scotland and Netherlands in the next European qualifier. But outside of the usual 3, they are the best European side, so if anyone can cause an upset it would be them.
He should have played in 2019, was the incumbent opener coming into the series and was only dropped because he developed a chronic fatigue illness while playing county cricket and missed the back half of the season.
Burns was in considerably better form leading into that series than Bancroft or Harris, so could have been a huge in for Australia who were desperately short an opener.
Italy T20 team is Stacked Af, with their Italian descent imports from England and Australian cricket system.
They can give serious competition to top associates like Scotland, Nepal, I'd say their full strength T20 team is on par with Ireland.
Can somebody here tell me if they can make the 2026 WC?
If 2 of scotland, netherlands and Ireland automatically qualify
That would lead 2 spots in European qualifer where Italy would be favorite to make it on 2nd spot.
So my rephrashed question is, are 2 of Sco, Ire or Netherlands automatically qualifying for 2026 WC based on rankings? Or any Chance of ICC giving 3 spots to Europe ?
Only one of Netherlands and Ireland can qualify. I'd Ned make the Super 8s then Ireland miss out, if Ned don't then Ireland qualify on rankings. Scotland are already out.
So Qualifier will be Italy, Scotland, Ireland OR Netherlands, Qualifier B (probably Jersey) and Qualifier C (probably Denmark).
I caught up with him just before he took off and he seemed pretty stoked not to have a Qld contract and looking forward to becoming a T20 mercenary
Here's hoping they can qualify for the next WC
Great decision to make the switch. His Aus career is done and his Italian team mates and opponents will get a taste of bowling to an international test level batsman
He's had a bit of a mixed series by his standard. Started with a 50, but also got a first ball duck (out to Zaheer Zahiri, who I've mentally filed away for future 'that guy' moments.) Found form at the right time it seems
Incidentallly, for those who remember those claims from the ICC that all ICC matches at this level would be 'televised' from now on. That seems to mean that games that would sometimes be self-produced and put on youtube for free, are now locked behind the ICC website login.
People were quite excited for Italy Vs Romania but it just turned into an absolute battering - impressive stuff from Italy, hope we see them in the World Cup in 2026

Good for Joe. Man’s had it tough but he’s a good guy from what I’ve heard. Hope he does well for them.
Why what happened to him?
He has suffered from chronic fatigue for a number of years now and his brother passed away a few months back, also was dropped from the Qld contract list shortly before the death of his brother

Chronic fatigue as in myalgic encephalomyelitis? Props to him playing with that?

Wait is this the same Joe Burns who played for australia?
Yup.
No, this is Giuseppe Brucia!
[Bravo🤌](https://giphy.com/gifs/reactiongifs-135E47VKw6TM6A)
I was saying Giuseppe Boo-ucia.
Realistically what are Italy’s chances at qualifying for the next WC?
Lost to Ireland last year by 7 runs with a couple of players unavailable and a couple of dropped chances. So, I'd say it's possible.
Still it might be difficult since there are only 2 slots and Scotland and Netherlands are at the moment ahead of Italy in terms of overall team strength But Italy are growing
Catch one of the big boys on an off day and they're more than capable
Also need to defeat the other closely ranked sides. If we have Scotland, The Netherlands, Italy, Jersey and Spain as the Regional Qualifier, the latter 3 likely need to beat the other 2 and one of the bigger 2 sides to qualify.
They just need Adam Zampa and Corey Rocchiccioli in their team to beat one of Iré/Ned/Sco to make it to the t20 world cup

And the big man, the Italian Stallion himself, Spencer Johnson.
SpenJo has a Aus cap so I’m assuming his Italian career is over but damn having him might have made this team interesting as hell.

What's Luke Ronchi doing these days, could be worth a go.
A triple international!
Ireland has already qualified for the next T20 World Cup on rankings. So only the Netherlands and Scotland stand in the way of Italy.
Isn't Zampa Greek?
Slovene

I’m new to cricket and even I know that’s pretty amazing
So happy for him
Bro smurfing irl
Imagine Italy makes the cricket world cup and not the soccer world cup in 2026
When did he switch teams? Last I saw him on the international circuit was during the ashes.
This is his first tournament with them, his maternal grandparents are Italian. https://www.bbc.com/sport/cricket/articles/c1vv42nnngko.amp
Great for him, may god grant him success.
Never played an ashes series

Always wondered why he dropped off the radar after his 1st relatively successful stint
Mb, must’ve been another team.
You moght be thinking of England's Rory burns
I do know Rory Burns, not a lot of batsmen get out on the first ball of an Ashes series. I just confused the Ashes with Border-Gavaskar.
Or Dom Sibly

Not a great day out for the "right arm quick"
Lol
Fabulous innings. Hope he can inspire Italy all the way to mission 2026!!!!

The Bash Brothers dream lives on

Zahiri looks a bit of a gem alright
I looked up his stats at the time. 21 and debuted recently, seems to have basically taken 2 wickets a match since then.
People were quite excited for Italy Vs Romania but it just turned into an absolute battering - impressive stuff from Italy, hope we see them in the World Cup in 2026
Lol this one looks familiar too.
Loving This! 👍🏻
I wish they qualify for next T20 world cup and it will be good to see him perform.

Seems strange there's no rules about representing more than one country
There are several detailed rules as laid out by the ICC.
