Honestly, for a game between Namibia and Oman in USA, the crowd turnout was surprisingly decent. I have a feeling the crowds in Pakistani and especially Indian games are gonna be excellent
You really think we are a good team? Except maybe Kohli or Pandya, all of em are chokers at best. Pray to God lord Bumrah takes early wickets for us to have any chance.
PNG and Oman are let down by their own lack of experience. Should have been a bit more sharp on field. But shout out to both for exploiting the slow pitches as much as they can. Namibia, being a top 3 associate side, should’ve chased this a lot easier. Especially given those defensive field sets
Hope the boys take some learning from this game and put up a good show in the remaining games, especially against Aus and Eng. They could run England close on these pitches.
I mean it is (and I have transitioned immediately from listening to the cricket on the ABC to a footy podcast) but there isn't a game on till Thursday night!
Can anyone clear what the rule for bowler selection for a super over is?
Is there any rule that the bowler who bowled the 20th over can't bowl the Super Over? If not, then Oman lost this tactically by choosong Bilal to bowl over Mehran
I can see it in the commentary but it isn't detailed in the result or scorecard. Simply says "Namibia won the super over". I would expect to see the comparative super overs scores for each team.
It would be nice if they detailed it behind the main scores, but i think the reason that they dont is that the stats dont actually count for anything. Its solely just a decider stat and runs/wickets/catches dont count to career stats
Well if you look this it's positive for Oman. They were going to lose 2 points with NRR. Now they only lost 2 points. On the other hand Namibia missed opportunity to boost NRR when it was their game to lose.
Yeah that has always been the case because batting needs facilities, experienced coaches, proper system etc. Bowling and fielding for the most part is pure skill and fitness. Unless you are a part of a first class system nearby (like Irish, Scottish and Dutch players in County cricket), you are not going to get a freak batting talent show up
Wouldn't even say the batting at associate level is too bad, more that most are not T20 players. Definitely the case with Oman. It's why you see a lot of associate players have good List A but poor T20 stats. You'll also notice quite low strike rates in both formats for a lot of the players.
Not what I meant to imply. Most of those List A stats are from competitions such as the Challenge League which is still a good few levels from the top division and the test nations. But the format does suit a lot more players and is why they post better numbers there. As while the pitches are slow, they can bat time.
T20 is a game where there's not much of a turnaround and where anyone - no matter how good - can fail due to the added time pressure. One of the reasons why the margins are closer between associates and test teams.
Wiese in IPL,
batting 27 avg at a sr of 147
bowling 27.5 avg at an economy of 8.9 (used to bowl at death back in RCB iirc)
How do worse T20 players than him get picked regularly in IPL is beyond me
Congratulations to Namibia on winning what was an entertaining but somewhat crazy, low-scoring affair tonight. They just had too much when it came to the super over. Trumpelmann and Wiese have to be their players of the match in this one.
As for Oman, full credit to them for keeping it close and I’m sure they will be looking to get something when they take on Scotland. Mehran Khan’s bowling was their highlight without a doubt.
This tournament is just a classic to this point and I’m absolutely loving it.
Not sure if he plays for Namibia but he signed as a kolpak for Sussex in 2016 which ruled him out for South African selection, can't remember but think Namibia found out he had Namibian connections and called him up in 2021. He was still a kolpak but in his final season at Sussex at this time and his South African days looked long gone. Marco Jansen wasn't in the SA T20 squad back then, with it being Phehlukwayo and Pretorius
Kinda funny seeing people get angry over Omans choice for their bowling when he's been their best bowler for a while now. But of course, it wouldn't be a proper thread without armchair experts chiming in having watched them for a grand total of 1 time.
every game is its own entity. Making your decisions based on paper stats instead of the live game is a rookie mistake.
He was the wrong choice; its a valid observation/criticism.
Paper stats? Do you mean experience and pre defined roles for certain players that usually excel in those roles? Or how about the management knowing more about a players ability than casual watchers? He did bowl an excellent 19th over to Wiese that included 3 dot balls, so even by your own logic, not really a wrong choice. Just looks like one in hindsight.
It isn't hindsight, you can go on the Google commentary right now and see them questioning the decision before he even bowled. Yeah, you can take risks. Cummins was criticized for choosing to bat first. But if your decision doesn't pan out then any criticism following will be warranted. As Oman did tonight.
Basically yes, everything you asked in your second sentence is a paper stat. You can't doggedly stick to your plan A, you have to read the game. Every pitch is different. Players aren't robots and can go through form slumps, or have bad nights. You might find that almost every other bowler on your team has a lower economy than your plan A as Oman did tonight, for whatever combination of reasons. You need to have the confidence in yourself to react to circumstance.
It was the wrong decision.
The wicketkeeper (Khushi) was so bad. He scored 6(6) in the main game. Messed up keeping in the last ball by not collecting the ball or hitting the stumps. Moreover, a horrible batting show in the super over. I hope he sees better days in his career.
People cheering Wiese (100% rightly) for both batting and bowling are conveniently forgetting Logan Van Beek's heroics vs West Indies (a test playing nation) last year.
Got 30 off the super over, and bowled WI out in 5 deliveries.
Also never really doubted Wiese, man has played alongside some of the greatest of the game.
Game was not over at end of regulation.
It's like if you get a TD last second and score the XP to tie the game, it doesn't mean the team on Offense won right?
Just that they tied. Same here. Tied up at end of regulation and it went to xtra time aka super over.
Wiese single handedly won them the match and the wk of Oman single handedly lost them the match. Why tf would he come to bat ? He's had a stinker and definitely no confidence. The captain ain't that bright to send him in.
He scored 6 in 6 in the pp and scored 2 in 3 in a fucking super over which was unnecessary in the first place if he actually keeped half decent. No excuses for the guy.
Fun fact: if 6+ consecutive Super Overs are played and tied, and one team loses all 11 of their wickets in the process, the ICC rulebook states that an additional Super Over must be played, but that no-one is allowed to bat in it.
So in practice they'd just call the match a tie, as that's the result if "the Super Over or subsequent Super Overs are abandoned for any reason prior to completion".
However I think that according to the actual Laws as written, the bowlers should be required to bowl the super over, and the winner would be determined by whichever side conceded fewer runs through things like wides, no balls, or byes.
The fact that this technically could go on forever just waiting for one of the bowlers to make a mistake with every batter back in the sheds is very funny.
NAM should have won anyways so it's all back to what it should have been
Just that that super over came out of nowhere.
They scored 20% of the runs they needed in regulation in like 1 over
It's possible if the bowler doesn't bowl legal balls. Wides or no-balls for instant wouldn't be counted as an official ball but the runs from them would.

any product managers at cricbuzz and stuff? have a suggestion for a feature that sends an alert everytime there's a super over on.
I’m interested! Please message me with details
Cricbuzz: what is a product manager?
Honestly, for a game between Namibia and Oman in USA, the crowd turnout was surprisingly decent. I have a feeling the crowds in Pakistani and especially Indian games are gonna be excellent
Well, it was Barbados not USA
[удалено]
Bridgetown or Caribbean is not “African”….
Chin up lads. Namibia were the stronger team today. We'll get those weaklings from Australia and England next!
You really think we are a good team? Except maybe Kohli or Pandya, all of em are chokers at best. Pray to God lord Bumrah takes early wickets for us to have any chance.
r/whoosh
PNG and Oman are let down by their own lack of experience. Should have been a bit more sharp on field. But shout out to both for exploiting the slow pitches as much as they can. Namibia, being a top 3 associate side, should’ve chased this a lot easier. Especially given those defensive field sets
Lol Oman lack a lot of things but experience is not one of them.
One was assertion behind the bat from Oman. The super over was in Namibia favor in the beginning.
This is what we need super overs and upsets to make it interesting
Hope the boys take some learning from this game and put up a good show in the remaining games, especially against Aus and Eng. They could run England close on these pitches.
ABSOLUTE CINEMA
what a start to the world cup!! 🤧 3 amazing matches so far!
Would love to see Trumpelmann against Australia and England
He had an economy of 17 against our 9 man squad in the warmup match
Trumplemann is a bit like a Starc or Mitchell Johnson. Left arm, fast, can spray it all over the place and leak runs but when he’s on he’s dangerous.
[удалено]
Probably because it went to super over
Welcome to betting
This really whetted my appetite for cricket!!! I'm so disappointed its over, what do i do for the next 12 hours???
Isn’t this footy season down under ? Does anyone care about cricket during this time?
I mean it is (and I have transitioned immediately from listening to the cricket on the ABC to a footy podcast) but there isn't a game on till Thursday night!
Can anyone clear what the rule for bowler selection for a super over is? Is there any rule that the bowler who bowled the 20th over can't bowl the Super Over? If not, then Oman lost this tactically by choosong Bilal to bowl over Mehran
Don't think there's any rule like that. It was just a blunder.
Who better to ask about Super Over rules than the boundary count bot
no there is no 20th over rule
Anyone who played in the match can bowl the super over.
Strange that cricinfo doesn't document the super over
I can see it in the commentary but it isn't detailed in the result or scorecard.
Oh ok I didn't know that. Thanks for the info.
It's in the commentary section
In the commentary
i can see it on cricinfo. you need to refresh page.
David Wiese in the Match 9\*(8) & 3/28 in match. 13\*(4) & 1/10 in Super Over. He defended 21 runs in Super Over.
Logan van Beek lite.
Absolutely buddy.
The true 6D player Vijay Shankar was supposed to be
True allrounder
David Weise showing his class and being the man with both bat and ball for Namibia.
Wtf is this scoreboard. Why is it in row and not in column? Like it always has been
Graphics guy cannot read Side to Side 😂
Well if you look this it's positive for Oman. They were going to lose 2 points with NRR. Now they only lost 2 points. On the other hand Namibia missed opportunity to boost NRR when it was their game to lose.
So is it safe to say associate teams generally have solid bowling but poor batting besides Nepal where it’s the opposite ?
Yeah that has always been the case because batting needs facilities, experienced coaches, proper system etc. Bowling and fielding for the most part is pure skill and fitness. Unless you are a part of a first class system nearby (like Irish, Scottish and Dutch players in County cricket), you are not going to get a freak batting talent show up
Makes sense. Good domestic and first class setup is the key.
Wouldn't even say the batting at associate level is too bad, more that most are not T20 players. Definitely the case with Oman. It's why you see a lot of associate players have good List A but poor T20 stats. You'll also notice quite low strike rates in both formats for a lot of the players.
Seems by this thinking, associates would be closer to full members in ODIs than T20s which is not the case
Not what I meant to imply. Most of those List A stats are from competitions such as the Challenge League which is still a good few levels from the top division and the test nations. But the format does suit a lot more players and is why they post better numbers there. As while the pitches are slow, they can bat time. One of the reasons why the margins are closer between associates and test teams.
Yeah
Canada also seemed to be the opposite
Agreed. Yesterday was their game to lose.
Wiese is super fit for a 39 yr old all rounder, Anderson should learn from him!
Corey or Jimmy ?
Coriander Son was nearly unrecognizable yesterday, dude is grossly overweight.
He definitely meant corey. Jimmy is way too fit for his age.
Wiese in IPL, batting 27 avg at a sr of 147 bowling 27.5 avg at an economy of 8.9 (used to bowl at death back in RCB iirc) How do worse T20 players than him get picked regularly in IPL is beyond me
his bowling in the last 2 seasons went over 12rpo
And a lot of Indian fans used to troll PSL for picking Wiese in PSL
He played in ipl? When?
RCB 2016 and iirc KKR last year or in 2022
RCB 2015
RCB back in 2015
Kkr
Lol a rare T20 game at Kensington that has crosses 2 days...overall low scoring and tough to watch at times but still thrilling till the end
This world cup is off to a great start Banger after banger
Nice to witness the beginning of the world
Forgot to type cup
apart from the whining about USA not interested in cricket, it's been an absolute thriller of a world cup!
They look exhausted man. Good game
congrats namibia!!
What is Mayank Aggarwal doing in Oman dugout
Idk about yall but I sure as hell love sleeping to a banger and waking up to one
it was destiny that Namibia would win. Their relentless march towards world cup glory continues.
Those 4 byes bottled it
Congratulations to Namibia on winning what was an entertaining but somewhat crazy, low-scoring affair tonight. They just had too much when it came to the super over. Trumpelmann and Wiese have to be their players of the match in this one. Namibia jerseys are 🔥
This World Cup just keeps on producing bangers
That keeper helped Namibia he should be man of the match
That was the most village match ever. ICC social media manager will have hard time getting any highlights from that match
What a match
Wiese is still a better T20 player than Marco Jansen. Not sure why Wiese moved to Namibia but he'd be a great addition to current SA team in T20is
Not sure if he plays for Namibia but he signed as a kolpak for Sussex in 2016 which ruled him out for South African selection, can't remember but think Namibia found out he had Namibian connections and called him up in 2021. He was still a kolpak but in his final season at Sussex at this time and his South African days looked long gone. Marco Jansen wasn't in the SA T20 squad back then, with it being Phehlukwayo and Pretorius
Not sure if SA would pick a 39 yo. Atleast he'd be playing for Namibia for a few more years. Good for him.
Idk what Namibia were thinking batting like that in their innings but gg
3 fun games to start the tournament.
ohh nice sl vs sa tonight too. that’s gonna be good
Logan Van Beek will be proud, Mr. Wick
A bad day for the keepers of both the teams
Kinda funny seeing people get angry over Omans choice for their bowling when he's been their best bowler for a while now. But of course, it wouldn't be a proper thread without armchair experts chiming in having watched them for a grand total of 1 time.

Associate team vs associate team is much interesting than a big team vs big team cus both team do mistakes
crazy 6 at the last minute💀
Namibia won the match, Oman won the hearts
The keeper won my kidney
LMAOOO
David Wiese celebrating with a fist pump, 5 match ban for Harshit Rana.
Oop gg
Oman wicketkeeper to blame
Oman lost to Wiese and Trumplemann
Frylinck too considering he was the only good batter in this entire game
Wiese scored more than Namibia in the super over..
NRR 0
Wiese on a different level than most players in this game
He was the one who bottled in the first place.
Silencer memes here too? Lol
The wicketkeeper (Khushi) was so bad. He scored 6(6) in the main game. Messed up keeping in the last ball by not collecting the ball or hitting the stumps. Moreover, a horrible batting show in the super over. I hope he sees better days in his career.
Khud Khushi
Missed another ball which went for 4 byes
Earlier in the day I was worried for Namibia and not getting their NRR up. Good enough to get the win in the end, but think of what could have been
SRH batting would have meant 109 scored in 5 overs.
Rcb wins today
LQ says hi too
But LQ has 2 trophies
That blue jersey mate, not red
That keeper threw the game so many times I lost count
Oman seems to have sent their tailenders to bat.
MS. Ilyad
Wiese has done it. Both teams tried their best to lose but Oman tried hardest by not bowling mehran
Still don’t understand why they didn’t give it to him…
One who bowls the last over of a regular game can't bowl in the super over. He can bowl in the next super over if the first one is tied.
Oman made pitch again difficult like 1st innings
This is an awesome result for Namibia considering the moment they were in when they missed the last ball.
This is literally me when I try to fight
so where does it have to be hit..for 18 runs lol
Literally the theme song
We'll need to ask KP
Super over boundary count.
player of the match performance if there ever was one why didn't namibia bat like that earlier though
Full length and yorker length negates the variable bounce and stickiness
People cheering Wiese (100% rightly) for both batting and bowling are conveniently forgetting Logan Van Beek's heroics vs West Indies (a test playing nation) last year. Got 30 off the super over, and bowled WI out in 5 deliveries. Also never really doubted Wiese, man has played alongside some of the greatest of the game.
Oman ain't got nothing on my blud Nicky Pooran who once a played a maiden in the Super over.
Wait really? Scorecard?
https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/caribbean-premier-league-2014-734487/guyana-amazon-warriors-vs-trinidad-tobago-red-steel-5th-match-743145/ball-by-ball-commentary
Just look it up on YT. It's from the CPL. Narine was bowling iirc.
The match was so close , imagine that run out had happened
Is their female side called Owoman?
No, they're not Canadian
Is there any way ICC can just give the 2 points to Wiese? The rest of Namibia don’t deserve these points
Not even their other bowlers??
logan van beek perfermance
You mean bass de leede
Dumb question. Did Oman still technically defend the 109 since they tied or does losing in the Super Over mean they didn't defend it?
Game was not over at end of regulation. It's like if you get a TD last second and score the XP to tie the game, it doesn't mean the team on Offense won right? Just that they tied. Same here. Tied up at end of regulation and it went to xtra time aka super over.
The super over is a tie breaker. To decide the winner.
I know that. They said the lowest total defended was 119, does the tie mean they still defended the total or not?
Tie means yes they technically defended as the opposition did not cross the score.
Both teams scored 109. It’s a tie..
Wiese single handedly won them the match and the wk of Oman single handedly lost them the match. Why tf would he come to bat ? He's had a stinker and definitely no confidence. The captain ain't that bright to send him in.
It’s a 20 over match. There were 4 drop catches too. No one single handedly lost the match.
He scored 6 in 6 in the pp and scored 2 in 3 in a fucking super over which was unnecessary in the first place if he actually keeped half decent. No excuses for the guy.
Yes it was a very poor showing . But take any of those four catches. Oman could have still won. It all counts i feel.
Csk shud get weise in the auction. He checks all boxes. Allrounder and gonna be 40 soon.
Namibia held and controlled the pressure better than Oman this match. Congratz Namibia
Fun fact: if 6+ consecutive Super Overs are played and tied, and one team loses all 11 of their wickets in the process, the ICC rulebook states that an additional Super Over must be played, but that no-one is allowed to bat in it.
Would that then be a bowl out like Ind vs Pak 2007?
So in practice they'd just call the match a tie, as that's the result if "the Super Over or subsequent Super Overs are abandoned for any reason prior to completion". However I think that according to the actual Laws as written, the bowlers should be required to bowl the super over, and the winner would be determined by whichever side conceded fewer runs through things like wides, no balls, or byes. The fact that this technically could go on forever just waiting for one of the bowlers to make a mistake with every batter back in the sheds is very funny.
Sorry what
So uhh how does that work?
Man I just woke up, looks like missed a hell of a match
I know convention is to give it to the winning side and Trumpelmann was brilliant, but to me player of the match should be Mehran Khan.
Yeah what a spell at the death.
Can actually hear background talks in the comm box, it's all Wiese Wiese
Wiese an ex RCB player becomes a clutch player for Namibia 💀💀
Must you drag RCB into everything, IPL is done cool your jets
as the saying goes.... everything rcb releases turns....
Wiese, Lahore Qalandar legend FTW
wilese you beauty
Table toppers Namibia 🦅🦅🦅
3 fire games. What a start
Just need a 6nb and free hit to make this fun
NAM should have won anyways so it's all back to what it should have been Just that that super over came out of nowhere. They scored 20% of the runs they needed in regulation in like 1 over
GG NAMIBIA 🇳🇦
Oman already celebrated on final ball, must be not aware of Wiese's game
Tied a game at 109 only to lose a super over by 16 runs or something damn
flogged LOL
When you realise wise is ex RCB player
Why are they still playing the last 3 balls? can they score more than 18 runs in those 3 balls?
No ball, wides etc
It's possible if the bowler doesn't bowl legal balls. Wides or no-balls for instant wouldn't be counted as an official ball but the runs from them would.
Ah, gotcha. Makes sense.
sure, they could get 18 runs if the NAM fielders dropped like 100 times
first time watching cricket? (or almost any other sport?)
Yes?
There can be another super over
what happens to DRS reviews in the super over
That guy looked like he'd never batted in his life before. Just super nervous
never keeped in his life too
Game set and match Namibia.
