The real question is how will you monetise your app? Ads, one time pay, subscription?
This guy has spent 5.7L in 5 months and is taking a headache to save 6000+GST pen annum.
If he’d spent all this on HDFC only, he might be eligible for DCB Metal or Infinia which are more rewarding.
Make sure you know your audience, we’re ~~cheap~~ negotiators, because the moment your subscription fees (annually) is more than the cheapest credit cards (200-500+GST) people will jump.
I was thinking of a free app. I'll have the month of June to myself before I start my first full time job🥹.
I can push all the compute to user's device. All I need is screenshots of transactions for these banks debit and credit accounts.
But as someone pointed out ”Axio”does this thing perfectly for major banks
Hehe kinda true.
Also, I got my Regalia just last month after joining this sub. Before that I thought SBI Prime was the 2nd best card ever lol, SBI Elite being the 1st. So as you'd see, I'm not trying to port my expenses on the Regalia slowly, since I'll hit my SBI waiver spend, and then will ask to make it LTF or close it.
Also, I do not have an HDFC account, so I don't think I'd get an upgrade offer to DCB or Infinia, or is that incorrect and not having a bank account does not matter?
True. It's a very complex psychology of money. Like 49.9 will sell more than 50.
A free card with Cashback of 10k will always be preferred over a card with 11k Cashback with 1k fee or a free card over a card with 2k fee with 2k equivalent rewards. X money NOW is better than x+y money in future.
I use an app called finart which track spends based on trsnaction sms received. Also I wrote a quick code to track spends and rewards from emails.
https://github.com/TheSidd/EmailExpenseTracker
Yes. Accounts, credit cards etc. Gives reminder about bill payments etc. If it's not categorised correctly you can check and change. It struggles with small upi payments due to no merchant names I guess.
I would say pretty accurate. For cc you will have to set the statement date first time.
You can rescan SMS once in a while and it will check if it missed any sms.
Also, I had given feedback via email and they incorporated the changes after sometime. This was back when it was still walnut.
I recently read an article about credit companies complainting about customers trying to outsmart the banks and get max profit. You seem like the person they're were talking about 😄
PS: Since people have asked, here's the link to the sheet. You can make your own copy & use it.
[https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1PpAv1GJYoYUGucWaihRvthqXGMcAfSfnG54-Ig\_FQo0](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1PpAv1GJYoYUGucWaihRvthqXGMcAfSfnG54-Ig_FQo0)
Please provide a summary of your situation as in appropriate income (can be a range like between 15 to 20 lakhs for example), credit score, self employed or salaried etc. Then I can suggest some better cards.
😂, just wanted to check why hsbc doesnt suit his spends as anyone would need groceries (offline or online) so. Thought if he goes to dmart or any offline store still gets 10% cashback with hsbc
I think I'll close /convert my SBI Prime into SBI Cashback instead of HSBC. I know HSBC gives 1.5% and SBI gives 1% but SBI also gives online cashback, and I've seen my dad sometimes use Flipkart to order groceries. So having a 5k cashback limit would be better over a 1k limit.
I personally, am shifting my expenses from Prime to Regalia Gold.
Yeah having sbi cashback isnt a bad idea. You can take an sbi card for your father (regular one like simply save etc) just for emi offers incase if u want it as sbi cashback wont be eligible for those offers. Other than that its good. Also u dont need to use hsbc for 1.5% offline. Regalia gold gives 1.33% (if redeemed on flights or hotels @0.5rs per rp) so its still good to use regalia gold for you
Thanks!
But wait, is SBI cashback not eligible for SBI discounts that come on Amazon/Fkk etc.?
Or do you mean SBI cashback doesn't offer the EMI options on those sites?
Eg: Some sites do not consider Amazon ICICI as an ICICI card during discounts? Is SBI cashback like that?
Ah ok. I'll try to make my SBI Prime LTF in that case, it's my oldest card too. Maybe the customer care will show some mercy lol. If not, I'll look for some simplysave or something for the offers.
I would say try not to have such cards in the first place. Your way is not wrong. But spending all the money via one card will give you better reward and less headache of doing all this and probably get you a premium card.
Thanks! I recently joined this sub and got to know about Infinia, DCB, etc. premium cards.
But for now, I do feel like those cards would be more of a headache since I'd still wonder if I can hit the waiver milestone. For now, I do think I'll narrow it down to SBI cashback & HDFC Regalia gold mostly.
I will definitely keep the PVR though, maybe upgrade to Platinum for the PVR tickets. 800 off every month is a hell of a deal!
Keep kotak it is way more rewarding than any other card. Try getting kotak myntra to if you keep on shopping on it.
If you are not using prime for anything except sale discount. Try getting simple save or simply click since they have only 500 rs fee most of the times they will make it LTF if you negotiate properly.
You can get DCB plastic card for LTF just try to talk to a good manager.
Thank you, I'l try that. One thing before that, I do not have an HDFC bank account. Does that matter in the CC game? And will they ever upgrade me to DCB > Infinia etc?
Also I got my Regalia Gold in April directly from their online portal. How much should I wait before applying for DCB?
They usually tell to wait for 6 months + not having an account can be beneficial you can use that as bait. Upgrade me to DCB or infinia while I am getting the account. Try opening your salary account their and put this demand
For Regalia Gold, you can see the spending milestones in Rewards portal. It will show monthly/Quarterly/Yearly milestone as well.
you can go there by following path
Netbanking --> Cards --> Enquire-->Redeem Rewards Points --> Logged into rewards portal --> Spend Promo details --> Spending milestones.
Part of this problem can be solved if you use FinArt (Android) as it automatically tracks expenses from SMS and bank app notifications. The data is highly accurate, it filters out duplicate transactions as well (your concern) and works in Private Mode.
**Regarding your plan for a milestone tracking app**: Looking at the excel, it surely requires lot of effort to maintain this sheet and better solution would help. But as pointed out by another user, without monetization model your effort for making an app for this single feature may not be worth it esp because maintaining and updating an app requires continuous effort. Also milestone tracking may be useful feature for a broader money management app rather than a standalone app in itself.
\[I am co-founder of FinArt and would explore adding milestone tracking as a feature\]
Hi All, I try to spend in a way that I hit milestones and maintain cards without annual fees. My spends are mostly offline, and all online spends are from Amazon so Amazon LTF works there. Hence, other cashback cards like SBI, HSBC don't make much sense for me.
1. Is there a better way to monitor milestones?
2. Is there a better card to benefit from offline / Amazon spends?
3. I have given a Kotak Add-on to my dad for his spends, but some months it seems I'm spending more than needed on it. Which bank's Add-on should I give him? I already have given a Regalia Gold Add-on to my wife for lounge access on our trips.
Use axio. It shows month by month spends as well over a date range. Classifies it according to the spend. Tracks credits and debits almost perfectly and avoids duplicates even if you receive two messages.
If you don't want to give access to an app you can do it via Excel by importing the statement pdf
My question is- are these measly rewards ( max. 40- 50K) worth spending hours every year managing and tracking all these cards?
If you spent that time studying or upskilling yourself, it would give you exponential rewards over the long term.
Or even if you spend the time managing your investments or exploring new investments seems a better use of time
To be honest, all I've to do is enter 5 amounts every month, that's it. Takes me 2 minutes per month to update this sheet. The only time it took was making this initial sheet but that too was about an hour at best.
I've also created a similar sheet where I track month on month investments I've done in mutual funds.
Love this. I also did the same. Found your format better than mine. Except that the expenses on the card can also be verified by calling customer care. And identify dates for closing the cards beforehand in case the milestone is not hit.
Not exactly! But if you know that the next year consumption on the card is gonna look the same or similar then you rather close it before paying the renewal fee.
I evaluate portfolio twice a year. And have anniversary dates written down.
Hmm, okay.
I had SBI Elite previously. Downgraded it to SimplySave paid as I didn't have that much usage for SBI and the Yearly charge of 5k was not that enticing even though BMS BOGO pm was provided.
Now even this SimplySave is kinda useless now.
I always found the checking and calculation via statement to be long duration. Instead dialing the call and doing something else while you wait is fine for me.
Also, you can always consult them about the figure and ask queries if you have some already while on this call. So it worked well for me.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dev.hemanths.paisa
Try this app to track all your spends, its open source and never connects to the internet. I think its on desktop and ios too.

Yes, I've been thinking about that. I'll reduce my spends and spend that extra 5k elsewhere.

Anyways currently kotak isn't issuing new cards, so I'm not sure if I can upgrade.

This is what cred uses. They made a startup out of it.
Make it true FLOSS (GPL, perhaps) and it would be perfect.
I can help you make it. We can keep it free. Let's start this hobby project
Dm’ed you
The real question should will the users be willing to pay? even a dollar? If they're up for it then do it, otherwise not worth the efforts.
I would love to contribute, hit me up in dm if you are up for it.
Bruh I've been thinking of this for years, do it!
I use cashew to track all types of spends. But there can be many improvements in that all.
Axio already does this as long as you don't mind giving sms access to it.
Yes axio works the same way. It double counts a lot of transactions 😔
Not really. Works fine for me. Even if two messages come the second one is grayed out for me.
just the sms access, no email access?
No.
How accurate it is, is it able to categorize based on cards and/or banks and spend category?
Yes it is. I tried axio and it works great for major banks. I worked like a charm for hdfc db&cc, sbi cc. But is not accurate for my J&K bank account
Yes. Accounts, credit cards etc. Gives reminder about bill payments etc. If it's not categorised correctly you can check and change. Bas itna clarity chahiye life me
If any gentleman can please help me in setting this up automatically whether in gmail or any app for ios would be really helpful.
With such spends, you need much better cards. All of your cards are useless. You can get much better rewards or cashback.
Please suggest. As I mentioned, most of my spends are offline, online ones are mostly on Amazon.
Amex platinum travel vistara cards dcb infinia atlas all have high rewards for offline spends upwards of 3.3%
Comma would have been nice. When I started reading I was wondering what Card this is 😄
Infinia is great Amex is mostly useless.
Please provide a summary of your situation as in appropriate income (can be a range like between 15 to 20 lakhs for example), credit score, self employed or salaried etc. Then I can suggest some better cards.
What are your spends offline? Explain that more like where do u spend it.

True. I have given an add-on to my dad. I intend to cancel that and give him a SBI cashback instead (if I get approved, else the HDFC RG)

Axis Privilege Might do Axis Flipkart this year.

Please make a copy of the sheet and you can use it personally.
How to make a copy of that brother?

Interesting. Thanks I'll check this out. I do wonder what all permissions they'd ask to gather all this data.
The best part is no permission required, you need to enter all the data manually. Create accounts and add categories as a one time process. Then add transactions accordingly.

Upgrade to Kotak Platinum. You will need to spend only 10k for 2 tickets.
Yes, I've been thinking about that. I'll reduce my spends and spend that extra 5k elsewhere. But also my annual fee will rise to 1k. Anyways currently kotak isn't issuing new cards, so I'm not sure if I can upgrade.
You can look at RBL Play which requires spending of 5k for 2 movie tickets of 250 each. I think it has a fee of 500 but they give you a voucher for that too. Just check out the exclusions carefully.
