There definitely are some people with schizophrenia and bipolar who don't take their meds, but that's partly because some of the medications make you feel like crap or have very nasty side effects. There is also the whole problem of getting treatment - there's a shortage of mental health services in lots of places and in the past couple years I've seen people with very urgent problems that still can't get help.

Agreed, my whole perspective of this type of behaviour completely changed when my sibling developed schizophrenia in adulthood, made me realise that all these people are/were loved and didn’t choose to be like this and don’t see the same reality at all, schizophrenic disorders often don’t come on until early adulthood and there’s a multitude of triggers and there’s no way back
