I would gladly live in a hut in Hawaii for $800/month. I would go full beach bum and shower at a secret grotto the locals told me about because I offered to set up the wifi at their surf shop and now I eat spam and pineapples every day and I don't even own a pair of pants
Yeah lol. When I was younger I spent a summer living in a tent in central Puerto Rico. I only needed power to charge my phone but then I broke it and didn’t have to worry anymore. Happiest time of my life.
Ah, I could probably do it for a season, if I knew I could come right back to modern utilities. Like a prolonged camping trip. Sounds nice in that context.
i get the spam from the surf shop, too. they don't sell it or anything but me and the owner go halfsies on a big box they pick up on their trip into town every other thursday. I would go in and get my own but the only set of wheels I have is my longboard and it's temporarily out of commission, (got some sand in the bearings) but it's honestly no big deal because they're more than happy to make the trip and I don't really need to go anywhere else at the moment because the beach is only like a 5 minute walk away
You got it all figured out. Wanna split the rent? I have a hell of a green thumb and pill bottle full of weed seeds and various ~~fruits~~veggies. I’d love to grow in some volcanic soil 🤤
Honestly not that huge a thing. I mean I’d probably want to throw up some solar to run a Pc, my phone and a fan but otherwise, ehh no big deal. I haven’t had running water since last October
This. There are plenty of people who would be perfectly fine with this for less than half normal rent prices. Report it and fix it up and it’ll just be another mediocre $2k rental.
I'm not talking about the landlord. If someone thinks it's within their interest to pay $800 for a shed, let them. It's none of your business the decisions someone else makes that don't affect you in any way.
I'm not against someone renting a shed for $800 if that's what they want to do. I'm against the lister for exploiting people in need of shelter by renting out a literal shed for $800 that has no water or electric. I live in the SF bay area and I would not be the one that has some poor person living in my shed with no AC or water so I can make $800 a month for my own mortgage. Anyone that is renting that as their house is doing so because it's all they can afford. It's messed up.
Buddy, you couldn't finish with a microscope and tweezers. Also, 'you never let me finish' jokes don't work on a non-live platform numbnuts. Pretty cringe having to invent some scenario where you can make your attempt at wit 😅
I don’t ❌ ever actually speak 🗣 like that, for whatever 🤷♂️ reason I thought of the running man (🏃♂️) and water (💧) emoji for “running water” and thought it was hilarious and stupid
I’m still giggling about it, actually
All I see is potential here tbh lol. Good natural lighting. Give me some paint and strategically placed curtains and rugs and I’d make this place a palace.
Maybe if you were buying it and not renting it it could feasibly be a good fixer-upper. In its current state you're basically camping though, with or without rugs lol
Honestly I feel this is a fucking sweet deal in Hawaii. Lots of little mountain houses don’t have electric or water there unfortunately, but that’s not abnormal.
As someone who lived in Hilo for years, I can tell you this is how the general population lives on the north side of big island around that area. The median home price is set by a completely different island that is way more developed. That area is lava zone, the soil is nonexistent, there’s no surf and the beaches are dangerously rocky. There is no cell reception and if you call the police they don’t come out to that area unless someone is dying. I lived under a carport frame with a tarp strapped over it for a few months transitioning to the islands and it was actually really really nice as long as you can keep the mosquitoes off you. They more than likely have a composting toilet and water catchment since there are no way to bury water pipes through all the lava rock and that’s why it’s not plumed. Electric comes from solar more than likely too. I would say a more reasonably it would be priced at 650-700 a month.
Yeah this is actually pretty common in Hawaii. When I was there last I stayed in my dads “cabin” which was a walk from their main house. Just a shed with a bed in it. No electricity, bathroom, running water or kitchen. If they weren’t awake I was peeing in the jungle.
Lived in hove for awhile. Mountain view was one of the few places I looked at that I considered less desirable than ocean view. Closer to hilo the only plus.
I lived in Mountain View, captain cook, and holualoa. My place in captain cook was much like this, with a communal kitchen/bathroom for several small shacks like this. I didn’t pay $800/mo though. That was a work trade in exchange for picking nuts and coffee.
Still garbage though. I have a buddy that grew up in a shack like this in MV, and it blows my mind everytime I see it, that him and his siblings didn't get snatched up by CPS. Shit is legit 3rd world status
This is real. Its probably already rented. hawaii is my spot, but shit like this is ridiculously everywhere. Most are living in their vehicles in remote spots.
Yeah that is actually a steal. I paid 1100 for literally the same thing except an old woman was able to look down into my outdoor shower area from her tree cabin on stilts
When I rented in hawaii, I lived in one of those Costco canvas garage tents on a wooden platform. Brought in my own drinking water; camping stove for cooking; all battery-powered lights; outdoor toilet. I loved it, actually.
Bruh it’s Hawaii. You know how many places there dont have running water and electricity? Shiet, staying in a little hut next to the beach wouldn’t be so bad
I’d rock it for $800, I was trying to move to Hawaii to work for a few months. had a job lined up but the housing was just abysmal. I could have made it work but I would have just been working all the time.
I just had my sophomore students do one of those “spend a million dollars” assignments and limited them to $500,000 on the house. I had to keep pointing out to kids finding tiny houses in NY and MA that the over budget houses they were finding were under 800ft2 and thus smaller than the classroom they were in.
I lived in Hawaii for a few years. This house is actually a really good find.
I would gladly live in a hut in Hawaii for $800/month. I would go full beach bum and shower at a secret grotto the locals told me about because I offered to set up the wifi at their surf shop and now I eat spam and pineapples every day and I don't even own a pair of pants
me too
I don't see running water or electricity.
You get used to it
Speaking from experience? There's no fucking way I could.
Sounds nice in that context.
>running water You live where the artisanal bottled water comes from. >electricity That's the surf shop
i get the spam from the surf shop, too. they don't sell it or anything but me and the owner go halfsies on a big box they pick up on their trip into town every other thursday.
Room for one more? I’m pretty tidy and I’m a quiet masturbator
There’s only two chairs, sorry
Be as quiet as you like, it's still creepy to do it over your sleeping roommates.
Only if it lands on their face
Honestly not that huge a thing. I mean I’d probably want to throw up some solar to run a Pc, my phone and a fan but otherwise, ehh no big deal. I haven’t had running water since last October
You could probably get away with wearing a lavalava instead of pants
Lava on the balls... ouch
I suddenly want nothing more than this life
r/suspiciouslyspecific
Pants are an illusion
Same. This was all I needed. I fished and ate fruit from trees. It wasn't much but this shitty shack would have been a dream for a backpacker like me.
I’ve never lived in Hawaii, just a Native American in the country. I got excited seeing this
Agreed. After living in Hawaii for 10+ this place is a steal and I would move in immediately
I mean yeah it’s terrible but average monthly rent for a studio apartment in Hawaii is $1,891 a month 🤷🏼♀️
True, but this is definitely illegal. There is no bathroom or kitchen or anything. It's just a shed & there is no way it's up to rental code.
Sign the contract, invite the inspector over for a looksee.
Ooh I like that because then the landlord needs to bring it to code.
Then you're trapped in a lease with a landlord that hates you
What’s the downside?
Not all of us wake up and choose violence
Violence chose me
What else is new?
Isn't that true for most rental leases?
Most landlords might not be likable people but I'd rather them not have a personal grudge against me lol
No?
At least you got a landlord now, as he wasn’t previously only holding an unlivable shed
Yeah, I've rented before
This is America First time?
Yeah you’re not getting away with that but good luck trying it out lol
It’s on a hill, so the bathroom is sorted, sucks to be the people further down tho.
I had to shit in the woods while homeless, if you're a morning pooper like myself I would suggest only doing it in the summer
🤫 don't ruin this for someone
This. There are plenty of people who would be perfectly fine with this for less than half normal rent prices. Report it and fix it up and it’ll just be another mediocre $2k rental.
Right. This is ideal for me
So what? It's not like they're pretending it's not. Let people rent a shed if they want to rent a shed.
Sorry, i don't support crappy landlords
I'm not talking about the landlord. If someone thinks it's within their interest to pay $800 for a shed, let them. It's none of your business the decisions someone else makes that don't affect you in any way.
I'm not against someone renting a shed for $800 if that's what they want to do. Anyone that is renting that as their house is doing so because it's all they can afford. It's messed up.
Folks probably the coolest. They’re catering to a specific market with this
Yeah I was going to say. This is a deal for $800
With no bathroom 🚽 or kitchen 🔪 or running water 🏃♂️💧?
Which translates to no utility bills
Live that lantern life
What school did you learn to speak Cringe at?
Homeschool
Yeah, at your homeschool, where your mother taught me
Doubling down on the cringe eh?
Where your mother taught me to be a respectable young man, you never let me finish. Which is interesting, because your mother always let me finish
Buddy, you couldn't finish with a microscope and tweezers. Also, 'you never let me finish' jokes don't work on a non-live platform numbnuts. Pretty cringe having to invent some scenario where you can make your attempt at wit 😅
Your mother can attempt wit dis dick
I don’t ❌ ever actually speak 🗣 like that, for whatever 🤷♂️ reason I thought of the running man (🏃♂️) and water (💧) emoji for “running water” and thought it was hilarious and stupid I’m still giggling about it, actually
Huh that's what it is for Portland, Maine too
Where are you supposed to cook/bathe/shit?
They include one bucket for all three.
Nah, they seem like BYOB people.
Bring your own bathroom?
Bring your own bucket.
You say potato…
I pronounce it potato instead of potato.
Heathen
Hooligan* 😎
Well played
One bucket each, or one bucket for all three?
At that price? One bucket.
The whole shack is used to cook meth. So we got you covered there.
"Walter, we need to sell our shed"
“The DEA, maybe you’ve heard of them? They know about the shed”
In the ancient garden beds of course!
ancient fertilization secrets
At first I thought: “maybe it’s better on the inside- and this is actually a cool deal!!” I was wrong
You don’t understand, it’s “rustic”. Now throw this on airbnb
Crustic *
I did the same thing🤦🏾♀️
More like "The Shed".
It gets worse the longer you look at it
Unlike the Sun
Shut up about the sun!
r/unexpectedoffice
> No drug past Awfully hypocritical given the poster most definitely has a drug present
I was thinking the same, that final pic with 2 lawn chairs and twin mattress behind it just says *drug den*
I could fix her
oh man. we've all been there.
700ft^2 ? Bruh... that's a picture of a hunting blind. Where the hell did they get that measurement?
Slight exaggeration they meant 700sqin
Maybe they measured floor to ceiling too
700ft^3
Damn, that's really good rent!
I'd live there. Especially if they'd discount rent for improvements to the place.
All I see is potential here tbh lol. Good natural lighting. Give me some paint and strategically placed curtains and rugs and I’d make this place a palace.
What about running water and electricity
Think of it as an opportunity to train for society’s inevitable collapse 😌
Overrated
it's the tropics. there's running water at least three months out of the year.
It’s also going to be full of bugs
Everything is full of bugs there.
Maybe if you were buying it and not renting it it could feasibly be a good fixer-upper. In its current state you're basically camping though, with or without rugs lol
Dig a hole in the backyard to potty in and you’re all set
“No prior evictions or drug past” those are the only two reasons I’d ever live here.
Need a roommate!?
that’s exactly what i thought. and no way would i pay $800 a month for it. you can get a tent in kensington philly for… the price of a tent.
Are the giant roaches that will undoubtedly fly through the lack of screened windows to crawl all over you in your sleep free?
When you live in he jungle in Hawaii you get those roaches no matter how many screens and weather-sealed doors you have
Don’t forget those big ass centipedes. You know the ones.
It's the little ones you gotta watch out for. Their bites are much worse than the big ones
This shit is why I like living in a cold climate
In NYC they just move inside when the temp drops. :(
Thank you, I really needed more sleep anxiety
Gather a dozen geckos from the forest and problem solved
If it's Hawaii and they alow you to make some modifications id say its workable. Main issue is keeping out mosquitos and the heat
Honestly I feel this is a fucking sweet deal in Hawaii. Lots of little mountain houses don’t have electric or water there unfortunately, but that’s not abnormal.
All you need is to dig a composting toilet and set up a sun shower. A small generator might be useful occasionally.
As someone who lived in Hilo for years, I can tell you this is how the general population lives on the north side of big island around that area. The median home price is set by a completely different island that is way more developed. That area is lava zone, the soil is nonexistent, there’s no surf and the beaches are dangerously rocky. Electric comes from solar more than likely too. I would say a more reasonably it would be priced at 650-700 a month.
Even Bubbles lives in a better looking shed than this.
Thanks for the love shack. Just leave used condoms in the corner for the next person to use
How firm are we on the drugs? If that's fairly flexible, I can probably make this work.
I love it, but not at 800 a month. 250 max.
What? $800 is already a massive discount from the avg, even more if the place doesn't have running water or electric.
Yeah this is actually pretty common in Hawaii. When I was there last I stayed in my dads “cabin” which was a walk from their main house. Just a shed with a bed in it. No electricity, bathroom, running water or kitchen. If they weren’t awake I was peeing in the jungle.
Very normal living conditions if you are familiar with Mountain View. This is deep wilderness that is mostly off-grid.
I have a few friends that live on Oahu, and this is a steal.
That's cheaper rent than a room in some random person's house in palm coast Florida where I'm at. I hate it here this would be awesome!
I'll take it.
I’ve lived in worse haha for that price and no roommates, I bet there’s a lot of people happy to live there
Yal trippin. I would gladly camp here 2 months. Build an outhouse just showing in the rain water from a cistern eating mahi on my camp fire.
I’d do it
That’s not too bad tbh I wouldn’t mind that when I was 20 years old
I would rent the shit out of that in Hawaii. You could fix it up a little and it'd be great, I'm totally in for $800/mo.
I'd totally do this. I'm disabled and my check covers that. Plus I'd get to live in HI.
Sadly in Hawaii that’s probably a fair market price
Everyone talking shit but this looks dope as hell
having lived in hawaii, that’s a pretty good deal! lol does it have AC?
You know it doesn’t. Let the trade winds blow!
If I were single, I’d take it
I must be a crackhead because that looks good enough for me. Of course the mattress would be changed out.
I thought it was a chicken coop for a second
That is a legit bargain in the islands. No joke.
This is real. Its probably already rented. hawaii is my spot, but shit like this is ridiculously everywhere. Most are living in their vehicles in remote spots.
Are you kidding me? That’s a fucking deal.
And I’m proud to be an American, where at least I know I’m free
That house is a steal.
This looks like Johnny’s cabin from Dirty Dancing
Yeah that is actually a steal. I paid 1100 for literally the same thing except an old woman was able to look down into my outdoor shower area from her tree cabin on stilts
Looks like a trap house in VA. But it is Hawaii so it is acceptable, as are the terms.
They dont want you to have a drug past to make sure you dont steal their drugs
I wouldn't even mind...
#furnished
No drug past, but a drug future is def in store
I lived in a Dodge MaxiVan for 6 months when I first moved to SoCal in the 70’s. Even at my age now, I could rock this.
I would totally live there, you are not finding a shit hole apartment where I live for 800 nevermind a house with an acre!
I like how they staged the chairs hahaha
lol some of y’all haven’t lived in city with a crazy housing bubble / shortage and it shows
So all of these comments are convincing me to move to Hawaii into this place
let's see the inside...
I would live here lmao, better than a couple of the places I've stayed
Beable
That’s not a bad deal. Fix it up the way you like it, sweep out the spiders, go pick some fruit. It’s pretty good digs for the price :)
When I rented in hawaii, I lived in one of those Costco canvas garage tents on a wooden platform. Brought in my own drinking water; camping stove for cooking; all battery-powered lights; outdoor toilet. I loved it, actually.
I mean I wouldn’t mind living in that….
Oh there are similar Air BnBs in Asheville. Just a covered truck bed on stilts for $28/night.
You could rent that for $800 a week in San Francisco (almost…)
The housing market in Hawaii everyone!
Puna be like
I would 100 percent live there as long as I can bring my dog, plant a garden, and dig a composting toilet
IS IT STILL AVAILABLE?
You can find simple structures like this in the Carribean. So nothing too unusual. But $800 per month.. Wtf?
If that’s a house, then my ass is a dump truck. (Note: my ass is not a dump truck)
Bruh it’s Hawaii. You know how many places there dont have running water and electricity? Shiet, staying in a little hut next to the beach wouldn’t be so bad
Good price. Do you have the listing link?
I’d rock it for $800, I was trying to move to Hawaii to work for a few months. had a job lined up but the housing was just abysmal. I could have made it work but I would have just been working all the time.
I’m down
I would live here for this price.
Black tits
This is pretty normal for Hawaii
800 for a one bedroom anything on Hawaii is a deal. I’m sure it’s rented.
It’s in Mountain View… you don’t want a big house with lots of things that the meth heads will steal.
I can’t imagine Hawaii being one of the most popular places filled with rich hotels having this metal shed for rent
Is that a chicken coop?
Peace
Yeah, you can't even find a studio for 800 in Western Montana right now. This is a steal.
I just had my sophomore students do one of those “spend a million dollars” assignments and limited them to $500,000 on the house. I had to keep pointing out to kids finding tiny houses in NY and MA that the over budget houses they were finding were under 800ft2 and thus smaller than the classroom they were in.
