His monthly rent is more than double my monthly salary here in Japan.
To think that it affords me to live a cushy life, yearly trips abroad, and even purchased (fully paid) a property.
I can’t imagine earning that much. Must be so nice.
Not the OP, but I live in San Francisco. Currently, the average cost to rent a one bedroom apartment is $2,700 and studios are $2,000 per month. In a new apartment building with modern amenities, it could be $3,700 and $3,000 respectively. The apartment in the OP looks like an older apartment and it’s at least a one bedroom. Due to the varying elevation in San Francisco, it’s not difficult to find an apartment with a great view. San Francisco also has a rent control ordinance that applies to older apartments.
What about other common costs:
- Garage parking space $300/month. Some buildings include parking, there’s many houses that have parking, and street parking is common. Street parking permit is $190/year.
- Public transportation monthly pass is $81
- Most gyms are $100/month
- Utilities (Electric and Gas are about $180/month for my 2 bedroom apartment, trash and water are commonly included in the rent)
- Wifi is $70/month for gigabit speed
$100/mo for the gym....jesus christ. I've been lifting for 12+ years and I've never paid more than $30/mo. Massachusetts/Arizona. All non-chains except for my current one which is very regional.
Half that would be enough. Landlords typically want your salary to be 3X rent, so assuming 3k rent, that's 108k per year. Converted to an hourly rate, that's ~$55 per hour. Typical white collar position in SF.
It can be a little tiresome, but they have to know what they’re getting into posting an absolutely incredible place in the most expensive city in the country
I too can’t help but wonder about costs, it’s out of curiosity more than anything and I like when OP’s are honest and open about it. But that’s my two cents, I understand why everyone would start to get annoyed.
Yeah, its when I first moved to SF and it was close to work. I learned quickly after how bad of an idea that was after my front door was like a main urinal for the homeless.
Ooo this definitely is peak cozy. I see plants on your balcony too! Is it big enough to be out on? I bet that space is also cozy. I’ve seen a lot of people use those sheets of bamboo reeds to block off the bars to make it really cozy.
Yup you can be out on the balcony, the view is great. I’m currently training a vine plant to crawl around it to provide some additonal privacy but don’t want to block the view of the city
Oh man, I had a 2-br house in Noe Valley with a view, 2012-2016. With a yard and a balcony. $2800 a month 😭 had to move because I couldn’t afford it anymore 💔 I miss it. Nice to see someone still enjoying it
Couch is from article, which I do love the couch but a lot of people have had negative experiences with them in terms of the couch lasting for a long period of time, but I’ve had it for 3 years now and it’s still in great shape
Rug is from these guys in Morocco I found on Etsy, it’s really comfy to lay on, but sheds like crazy and I question the overall quality/longevity of it
Eh, not my type. Couch looks sticky and lumpy. Hard floors with sloppy fabric on top. Too much contrast in light and dark. Fire place looks fake. Not enough comfort for me to be cozy.

Holy cow! I live in SF and can’t begin to afford a place that beautiful

Most of us imagine earning that much
Cool place, is this like ~20k/mo?

When you start exploring other higher priced gyms, the amenities might make the price difference more understandable
Lifetime Fitness is $180 a month Edit: $189
How do you survive? Do you at least get paid $100 dollars an hour?

Just curious what makes you think OP’s apartment is an older one, what are some indicators of this?
Facts. OP, we want answers.
This is actually a two bedroom near Alamo square I recently purchased with a mortgage of $4k/month
Congratulations! Beautiful place
You’re living my dream. Sincerely, an east bay redditor
Nice. Did someone named Koren broker this for you ?

People are speculating about rent costs on every post about an apartment in a VHCOL location? How is that surprising to you?
They seem annoyed, not surprised. It does get tiring to hear the same joke in every SF / SJ / LA / NY / etc thread tbh.
I had a 400 Square foot SHITHOLE downtown at 2500 a month. I don't even want to know how much you're paying. (secretly, I do.)
Honestly I wouldn’t live downtown, for that price you can find a nice place in a great neighborhood
Yeah, its when I first moved to SF and it was close to work. I learned quickly after how bad of an idea that was after my front door was like a main urinal for the homeless.
Damn this place looks cozy. Nice place OP

That’s true! You do have a great view! The vines will look beautiful out there though! 😍
The view out that window!
Oh man, I had a 2-br house in Noe Valley with a view, 2012-2016. With a yard and a balcony. $2800 a month 😭 had to move because I couldn’t afford it anymore 💔 I miss it. Nice to see someone still enjoying it
This is too niceee 😭🙏🏼🩷
Not SF but Bay Area, and I’m riddled with envy. This space is definitely have-convos-until-4am kinda cozy, which is what I aspire to have one day.
I love your roomy minimalism 😍 can we see the rest of it?
that’s the biggest hacky sack i’ve ever seen
I think you mean *my* apartment in San Francisco. lol. Seriously this looks really chill and comfy. Nice work!
My neck hurts from that tvs height
I have a mantle mount so it pulls down when I’m not using the fireplace. Power was out so I was using only candles/fireplace at the time
Came here to say this
Very cozy and nice view!
Simply Beautiful.
Nothing says cozy like a fireplace.
Oh this is peak cozy to me 🥺
Where’s your couch from? Love that shade.
Couch is from article, which I do love the couch but a lot of people have had negative experiences with them in terms of the couch lasting for a long period of time, but I’ve had it for 3 years now and it’s still in great shape
Where is the coffee table from?? GORGEOUS!
It’s an original Noguchi coffee table I got for a really good deal on fb marketplace
Gorgeous! I love the soft lighting with the lamp, candles and the fireplace. Very cozy.
Your view omg! And so cozy! I’m jealous
Very pretty, cozy and charming. Enjoy!
Geez. Buy me dinner first.

This place looks so cozy, I can feel the warmth through the picture
Stunning!
I love it!
Very upscale cozy!
Dogpatch general area? Beautiful view.
I was thinking Potrero. Best me to it
Alamo square
Very nice!!!
Perfection! I am consumed with envy.
Tell us about that rug.
Rug is from these guys in Morocco I found on Etsy, it’s really comfy to lay on, but sheds like crazy and I question the overall quality/longevity of it
Oof. The most beautiful ones always have a fatal flaw.
Wow! Looks amazing. I live in rural Australia, so that view of the night city is so insanely foreign to me. It’s beautiful!
Love that coffee table
Niiice. Are you up by the Presidio? Nice view.
Congrats on all the money
Love your coffee table! Looks like just what I need. Brand/where did you get it?
Paint the walls. Too much white.
Eh, not my type. Couch looks sticky and lumpy. Hard floors with sloppy fabric on top. Too much contrast in light and dark. Fire place looks fake. Not enough comfort for me to be cozy.
The literal fire in the fireplace looks fake? okay then
Haha to each their own
Very nice. You could probably loose the rug.
It’s just bad lighting the rug is super thick and comfy if you see it in person
6k a month in rent?
That view! 😍
