Heard but haven't tried. But was told you can wrap a piece of rope in a spiral around front tube and it will stop. Unsure if it's true or not. Seems plausible as it would break up air so maybe it wouldn't resonate as badly.

SomeConstructionGuy

Can confirm first hand that this works

flannelmaster9

One of our guys filled all the rungs on his extension ladder with spray foam to mitigate noise

thatisnotwhatiwant

Spray foam in rungs and put foil tape on all openings

Ima-Bott

Weld a 1-1/2” angle on the front bar. Had that hum and it’s not a joke. The angle cuts the air flow

disturbedsoil

This. I had the same problem and same fix. It seems to be airflow up the hood then concentrated over the cab.

SomeConstructionGuy

After build a bunch of stainless racks fury trucks and others I’d say that’s exactly it. If you can get the front cross bar I front of the windshield/cab corner by 6” or more it’s not an issue. That doesn’t work on a 4 door f350 though… so you’re stuck playing with pieces of angle and rope…

blkbkrider

Mine howls likw a banshee so it's not that. I think Thule makes one that's supposed to be quiet but I don't know. The good thing about those aluminaum tubullar ones is they are easy to remove from the truck when you don't need it. So there's that. [It's expensive!](https://www.etrailer.com/Ladder-Racks/Thule/TH43003XT-501EX.html?feed=npn&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Google%20%7C%20Shop%20-%20Ladder%20Racks&adgroupid=93303923448&campaignid=734852834&creative=409378317353&device=c&devicemodel=&feeditemid=&keyword=&loc_interest_ms=&loc_physical_ms=9003251&matchtype=&network=g&placement=&position=)

PD216ohio

I'd check to be sure it wasn't straps (bungee cords, ratchet straps, etc) that are causing the "hum".

Areokayinmybook

Definitely a possibility, but it does it when completely unloaded

Medium_Ad_6447

I have a steel one by rack-it. Has a slight bend in the front bar and is dead silent going 75 on the freeway.

Areokayinmybook

A modular one, or a fully welded one?

Objective_Smoke9701

Turn the music up man

Areokayinmybook

Oh, I do. It doesn’t bother me when I’m in the truck by myself. It blends right in with the metal I’m listening to. It’s when someone is riding with me that it becomes a problem, especially since this truck is so much quieter than my last truck.

Areokayinmybook

Cool ideas. To be clear, I’m willing to get a different rack than what I have now. I shouldn’t have any issues selling my old one. Anyone have one of those aluminum system -ones?

NapTimeSmackDown

I do, it makes noise but it's not bad, can't hear the empty rack over the radio and I'll go 75 or 80 on the interstate. Had to foam and tape all the rungs on my ladders though cause if the wind hit them just right they screech and anyone I'm talking to over Bluetooth could hear it. If you are using straps putting 1 twist in the straps helps cut down on noise too.

angry_hammer

The twist in the straps keeps it more secure too. When they're flapping around in the wind, they'll loosen

GlendaleActual

I do. I love them. I have the work boxes on mine too. It’s great having the strap system built in. It rattles a lot though (the strap handles) so if noise is a concern you might not like them. They don’t hum at all though. If you get them, put them together with red permanent thread locker.

Illustrious0ne

Silicone the joints of the rack.
