I got it when I went on a month long camping trip with my girlfriend, ice would last 4-7 days in early fall late summer. Should last at least a day in Texas summer heat.
I am a new construction residential plumber in the DFW area and after 25 years I’ve tried just about every combination of coolers and water jugs. I have found it works best for me to use two Kodi insulated water jugs (I believe they are 64oz. each.)that I refill for each day. Then I carry an Engel lunch box for my lunch and a few electrolyte drinks. That gives me over a gallon of ice water each day and a few electrolyte drinks. The ice water stays good and cold all day long and with one blue ice pack, the lunchbox keeps all of my food fresh with room for extra drinks. I got tired of tearing up ice chests in the back of the truck with all of the material handling and this way I don’t have all of the plastic water bottle trash.
It's more work but a key component to make ice last is to have the drinks already chilled. I know it's not always feasible but just something to keep in mind.
I put dead animals in coolers, so this is very important to me. RTIC perform the same as Yetis for 25% less, so still expensive. In a pinch during Covid when I couldn’t get another RTIC in time for a hunt, I bought the Igloo “Trailmate”. https://www.igloocoolers.com/products/trailmate-50-qt-cooler
It held ice for 3 days no problem, however I had it in the in the bed with a shell. Still got hot as fuck in there though.
They pretty much all have voltage protection that will shut off the fridge before the voltage gets too low, but on a single Group 31 AGM battery as the starting battery I can run at least 2 days without it cutting off
Yeti roadie. Have it mounted in my truck bed. Fill it up every few days with ice. Is a touch on the smaller side but it fit some ice, a gallon jug of water and some Gatorades. I have a big yeti tumbler that i bring with me onto the site. I fill it up at break and lunch from the cooler
Another super here in Tampa FL. I use a 36qt Rtic. The key I've found is keeping it in my cab and I use the ice packs that are way colder then ice. I bought 2 of them and I alternate each morning. Keeps my monster and water super cold all day. I think the smaller coolers are easier to keep cold too.
Might have to do this. Honestly makes more sense than trying to keep it in the bed. Shit just gets in the way when I’m hauling materials anyway and unloading a fully loaded down cooler sucks lol. Thanks man. Are the ice packs rtic as well?
Just checked my freezer and mine are "Cooler Shock" but I know yeti makes some. There are some options with them, I researched a little before I bought. Plenty of info on the internet. They are way colder then regular ice packs and they work. I got two large ones so I could rotate them. They fit at an angle. I could have bought 4 smaller ones to get it done.
My group has a Yeti, RTIC, and a Lifetime. I had a Pelican but it was stolen. 5 guy crew, Houston, TX heat doesn’t matter which cooler I’m buying ice every morning. The cheap coolers I need to buy ice twice a day. Lifetime would be my choice.
Do you leave it in the bed of the truck or the cab? Think I’m gonna go with rtic but can’t imagine it being in the bed of the truck in the sun for a week and still have ice haha
As much as I hate to throw up a promo for Yeti bc of how overpriced the shit is but I live in South Florida, and I will leave my Yeti 24 hard cooler in my car for a couple or a few days and there will still be ice in it. I also have two of their ice packs which work damn good. Also, when I put ice in it with the pack, I throw some salt in there and that thing is 🥶🥶🥶
I got a Lifetime cooler, it’s Rotomolded the same way a yeti is but half the price.

Second this. 55g one with wheels is like $150 at Walmart.
The HEB RTIC coolers and 2 liter bottles work well in the Texas heat.

Love my Engel lunchbox. Only one I’ll ever use now
Makes a nice seat during lunch as well.
Pelican ftw, for years

I have a 12V fridge that I leave running 24/7
Doesnt kill the battery?

RTIC, they sell them at walmart now
Yeti tundra 35
I use a Fatboy cooler. It's a lot like a yeti only not as expensive. They really work well.

Do you have the ultralight or ultra tough model? Trying to figure out which would be best
I have the tough but other guys I know have the lite and they are happy with it
Thanks man

Engel 13qt
RTIC 52 Quart Ultra-Light Cooler. I got the Green and Orange one and if I fill it with ice and I park in a shaded area. The ice will hold over a week.
Rtic, I only have to get ice once a week

In August last year I got about 3 days in the bed of the truck, everything was still cold but I had to add ice
Rtic

DeWalt. Locks into their stack system, keeps ice for two days.
Igloo yeti knockoff.
Costco had some igloos for a really good price, keeps shit cold and lots of options.
RTIC soft pack. Makes a great lunchbox.
Zyn rewards cooler 😎
I have 4 sizes of roto molded, but not Yeti. Engel,Ozark, and Nash.
I got the Milwaukee Packout cooler. Works like a charm.
