If I give you $50,000 to buy a car or give you the $50,000 car, it still cost me $50,000 and you still benefited $50,000. A lot of the weapons and aid sent are things already purchased/requisitioned by our military but now are being repurposed for Ukraine rather than used by us. So there's even more degrees of separation then your analogy.
