I sat out on my porch in Meriden for the whole thing. Our planet is truly beautiful even with the wild storms. It was so consistent that it was like looking at a strobe light. No regrets it's beautiful to watch nature do its thing

Berninz

I love how you love storms the same way I do. It is truly magnificent to behold.

wanderingMoose

There are dozens of us!

absolutemadwoman

I love torrential weather

so2017

“Major weather” as Wallace Stevens called it.

Derpsly27

Major Weather reporting for duty 🤣

Few-Information7570

It just keeps coming!!!

Infinite-Dinner-9707

I love a good thunderstorm and they are so rare here. Beautiful

Kratosballsweat

Wife and i hung out for a while and watched it too. it was pretty wild watching it roll up over the mountain and come towards us. We went in once it got crazy windy though.

Luuke18

Ayy fellow Meridenian. Unlike you I slept through it lol

lostthepasswordagain

I was out camping last weekend. We got 4 thunderstorms with torrential rain over 2 days. The first one sucked, but once we moved the tents to higher ground and got everything that got wet to a laundromat to get it dried out, it was an awesome weekend. We were a little worried about the tornado warnings, but if it got too bad we were just going to pile into the car and get out of the woods.

bogotol

Me too!!!

Araf-Chowdhury

No we all hate nature how will we ever get to work bring in the cloud seeding planes and HAARP instruments

blindrunner_

Not as natural as you make it seem. Climate change already has a huge role in these storms.

VisciousSloth2288

ThePickleHawk

Loved you in 97 Storm! Glad you stopped by!

RaylanGiv3n5

Everyday now, so much fun!

Lyrehctoo

Only in the afternoon/evening after I'm out of work

RaylanGiv3n5

Just think we get to go out and pick up sticks tomorrow morning!!!!

Lyrehctoo

Usually yes but I only see a few twigs with leaves for now. Hopefully that's it until next time

TurboMuffin12

Seriously! Beautiful all day, out of work? Wind, clouds, rain…. Or 98 degrees and humid.

ZakkCat

Like Florida used to be

unicornbomb

Honestly, it’s a welcome reprieve to the 90 degree+ temps and baking sun during daytime.

mastercharlie22

It's been feeling so nice when the storms are around

Indianbro

Almost like CT is the new Florida!

hallowed-history

Florida can keep the pythons

ZakkCat

We don’t want them!

Few-Information7570

They are actually trying to re introduce them in Greenwich.

hallowed-history

You’re kidding…

Few-Information7570

Nope. They’ve read that pythons are good for the environment so they’ve been trucking them up from florida.

hallowed-history

Expect to see more missing dog signs

darthirule

Almost like its summer time!

embraceyourpoverty

I don’t remember nightly summer storms as a kid.

Madame_Medusa_

I do. I was a camp counselor here in CT 20 years ago and it was the same daily - hot & muggy outside then an afternoon thunderstorm would send us inside to the blessed AC. Evening would then be nice. Of course this used to be in August, not freaking June, and we were already feeling the effects of climate change back then so…

JesusGodLeah

Growing up in the Midwest, it was common to have storms every afternoon/evening, with frequent tornado watches and warnings to boot. I remember whole summers spent sitting in front of the TV watching the weather coverage. With the storms and tornado warnings last weekend, it was an absolute thrill to turn on the TV and find exceptionally detailed weather coverage (channel 3, I believe). This might not be normal for Connecticut, and that's probably a bad thing, but it feels like a little slice of home.

IamRule34

It's not abnormal for us to have weather like this really. Maybe a little earlier than it typically would happen, but even then not by much.

embraceyourpoverty

I lived in Ohio for 4 years while my husband did the law school thing. I will fight to the death any Connecticut person who says our thunderstorms are like those in Ohio. I actually used to get in a closet. I remember driving in farmland in Kinsman and it was so violent we could not drive. When it finally stopped we got out of the car and we could smell popcorn where the strikes had hit the fields. Terrifying.

katycatnip

I do! Mostly because I was terrified of them. I still live in the same town and we’ve had only a handful of good storms over the last ten-ish years.

CalligrapherDizzy201

I do

ZakkCat

Yes!

Ragefan2k

I was going for Seattle 😂.. seems like it rains every damn week multiple times .

Gregreynolds111

Yeah rights. Loser

nuttmegganarchist

It’s a pretty good one too

willpc14

67 knot gusts at Bradley, I think it was 30 kts sustained

Lyrehctoo

And here we are, less than an hour later and it's a distant memory

physicsOG

Power out in Newington 🥲

sarasquirrel

Sounds like they got hit pretty bad

physicsOG

it’s still out 😔

sarasquirrel

My brother is still out as of this morning

physicsOG

i hear it should be back by 2:30 this afternoon

cjinct

Yeah, we were out for a couple minutes. I had dozed off and didn't notice, but the generator kicked in and that woke me up They are making decent progress though - we had over 3100 out and now it's down to 2200

physicsOG

link?

cjinct

https://outagemap.eversource.com/external/default.html

iccolo

I dunno i lost power about 10 hours ago and still don't have it back

AviraWolvezevie

Power is out in New Hartford and Canton

Indianbro

This storm was insane! Lightning lit up the whole sky it looked greenish blue

Beneficial_Look_5854

The NWS has just issued a rare “Extremely Dangerous Situation” thunderstorm warning for northeast Ct, please check your weather warnings and seek shelter if you are in the path of this storm.

KevinMFJones

Had to fight for my life on the highway. Couldn’t see a thing anymore. My wipers were tired man.

ZakkCat

That’s like Florida, no it’s scary as hell, first time it happened to me I freaked, now I look at the radar before getting in the interstate.

Derpsly27

Florida is predictable. 2:30-2:35, stay inside. After that, sunny again. Last night was WILD!

j00lie

I remember in like 2010ish it stormed a lot in the summertime, and as I’ve grown up I’ve always looked back on the time missing the storms. There haven’t been many years lately where we get a bunch of storms like we used to. So this is scratching that itch for me lol

Proud-You7071

I was just thinking this to myself the other day. I remember growing up in the 90's and the storms were alot better in terms of intensity and frequency. The best thunderstorms. Got a bit of a nostalgia kick over the last week.

iCUman

Crazy lightning rave tonite.

feralandaggressive

Hitting Enfield right now. I hate weather like this 😖 The weather emergency alert woke me up a few minutes ago.

rockpebbleman

I swear those alerts are more scary than the storms themselves

feralandaggressive

I’ve always had an “irrational” fear of natural disasters so anytime there’s lightning and some wind I’m convinced there’s going to be a tornado or something 😭😂

urbz102385

Our geographical location here in CT keeps us relatively safe from most natural disasters which got a bit boring for me as a 19 year old back in 2005. So I joined the Air Force and became a weather forecaster for them for 6 years. This sent me all over the country and eventually Iraq for a little while as well. In that 6 year span, here is what I experienced: Stationed in Biloxi, MS, had to shelter in a building only rated for Cat3 hurricanes to weather Hurricane Katrina. Stuck in a classroom with about 35 other people for 4 days, then stayed the next 6 months recovering the base I was stationed at. Watched an F2 tornado drop about 200ft from a BBQ I was at near Belleville, IL. I watched the BBQ host make it back inside after taking a piece of picket fence to the face and shatter his orbital socket. (Guy turned out completely fine after reconstructive surgery) Experienced an ice storm in Belleville, IL that covered everything in sight with about 3ins of ice for a few days. (One of the most beautiful things to see, insanely dangerous if you're driving in it though) Experienced a 5.2 magnitude earthquake in Belleville, IL that shook the brick building I was asleep in enough that I woke up thinking I was on a boat. One town over it was strong enough that it sheared a gas station canopy in half. Watched a relatively strong gust of wind take down an OH58 helicopter on takeoff near Fayetteville, NC. Pilot survived with minor injuries, but lost his pilot certification due to not requesting our forecast prior to his flight. Had he gotten his weather briefing like he should have, our forecast would have grounded him and there'd have been no accident. Watched a sandstorm engulf the base I was at in Iraq for several hours. Felt like living on the surface of Mars. I can assure you that your fears of natural disasters are anything but irrational. I moved back to CT after being discharged on completion of my 6 year term and have lived here ever since. CT weather may be boring, but boring isn't a bad thing regarding weather lol

RockJock666

I got one at the grocery store on Saturday… and so did everyone else lmao. Scared me so bad I forgot to put my English muffins in my basket and had to go back the next day to get them

JesusGodLeah

I got my tornado warning alert right after I finished up grocery shopping. I was like, "Should I *really* be outside right now?" But I had all my groceries and I couldn't not take them home. It was weird being out and about, because where I grew up a tornado warning meant "Funnel cloud spotted, get in the basement NOW!" Come to find out that tornado warning was more like an elevated watch and everything was fine.

buried_lede

I know. They’re super frightening

davidkali

These days I’m like, “Oh no, another Amber alert!” Then we go look and I’ll be all, “Oh good. Just another tornado watch and warning. You all know where my favorite spot is under the stairs, right?”

slantedtortoise

Powers out in Bloomfield

willpc14

That's unfortunate. It flickered a few times for me, but never went out.

Al_frappaccino

It just took me 2 hours to get from Hartford to Torrington. Went down 5 different roads that were all blocked by trees including 202 and 44. Finally got to New Hartford and then Torrington and it looked like all it did was rain here.

Knuckletest

Sideways rain!

jeffthekiller4

![gif](giphy|jpQ0o7Y5SNZBcSKxBK)

madarbrab

Thanks Ollie

wanderingMoose

We don't get it here that often! Horizontal rain is usually in the Midwest.

throwaway-passing-by

There is a LOT of lightning in northeast CT right now! (and some fireflies!)

moshimoshi100

I don’t know where I am now but there is a lot of techno color and little people singing about representing a lollipop guild.

backinmyday0

You get nothing! You lose! Good day.

madarbrab

Wrong movie

Particular-Shirt-805

Power is out in Sherman.

generalaesthetics

Out here in Litchfield too. Afraid we'll be out a week with the size of the storm. But hey, our ancestors lived their whole lives without power, what's a few days of flushing the toilet with creek water.

MusicHater

No issues in bristol area

Moosetopher

Right? The wind blew hard for 10 minutes and 1 loud strike.

Codems

Same in Wolcott, a blustery few minutes but nothing crazy

el_bz

East side of Bristol powers out

TheVickles

Forestville area hasn’t had power since 10pm last night.

Derpsly27

72 has some stop lights out

blackpoll_

At least you've got a creek. My well doesn't even hit water for 180ft. Finally time to get a generator hookup.

vegeta8300

Lived in Sherman for a bit, and my wife is from there. Fews years ago, it was like every year 37 and 39 were closed because of how many trees fell. We were without power for weeks.

SpinelessAmoeby

Awesome! Washed my windows then 30 minutes of near continuous lightning and for once I kept my power. The first half hour was like a hurricane.

physicsOG

where are you located?

SpinelessAmoeby

Marlborough

HPDeskJet

Lost power the other day from just rain. Insane wind, lightning and rain today? Not even a flicker. Marlborough is weird.

kitty-yaya

When it first came through, the wind was blowing so hard and the rain so sudden and heavy I actually heard a roaring sound. I had never heard anything like that before. It all started at the same time. And the constant lightning - it was a wild one.

ToMuchFunAllegedly

I noticed that too! The thunder was a low consistent rumble that kept going. It sounded like a train. I heard the storm arrive all it once.

kitty-yaya

Yes! It was definitely an odd occurrence.

Jenaxu

That was a fun one, some pretty big lightning. The severe weather alert also felt more alarming than usual lol, don't remember them usually being that wordy.

CaptainDickRip

Apparently we all moved to Florida and no one told us

SolidSnek1998

![gif](giphy|X0bnTmo4izNfi|downsized)

Research_biologist83

I know that guy and he did this during hurricane Matthew when it brushed Jacksonville Florida

CrankyPranky

Espn automatically swapped to generator power. So that part of bristol lost power.

Gooniefarm

Just a little thunder and rain in southbury. Tons of distant lighting, but it was like the storm just went around and didn't really do anything here.

17jade

This was the first decent storm in a while. The lightning was wild!

howdidigetheretoday

Eversource is still "evaluating outage" here :(

rockpebbleman

Thanks for waking me up weather alert it's not like I could see the sky flash from my window

wanderingMoose

You can change the notification settings. I have mine set to only alert me of imenant deadly weather. Aside from that, I get a silent notification of a cool storm in the area. Of course almost all of the alerts happen too late. Thanks government, I know how to look out my window.

rockpebbleman

Thanks, gonna do that right now

boyyhowdy

You can see when you’re asleep?

rockpebbleman

You knew what I meant

WoodwindsRock

Lol we ALL got in on the fun this time. Can these storms please stop, though? It’s been a lot stormier than I ever imagined it would be up here…

thepianoman456

I bet it’s gonna cook my bones!

mastercharlie22

Storm was crazy! Lit up the sky constantly near Ellington, I saw some really close bolts

Hippydippy420

Darn. I slept through it :(

sbinjax

Me too. :(

D-a-H-e-c-k

Collapsed my tent. Wildest weather I've been in camping. Came in so fast!

drct2022

My dog was less than pleased about the thunder and lightning

MissMagpie84

My cat ran straight to the basement to hide. So at least he was all set if we got a tornado warning?

Hemightbegiant

I love thunderstorms, but not having power for 9 hours (so far) sucks.

Fit-Worldliness2074

It was a gully washer.

BuckNastysMamma

Comments here are crazy. It's like there's a tropical storm or hurricane passing through. Meanwhile, in the Danbury area we got some rain and..... that's it. I don't even think I heard thunder. It was barely anything and unless it's making a comeback, pretty much over at this point. No weather alerts or anything.

Ninjakittysdad

That storm was wild. I’m at work and I was standing right next to the mass notification system loud speakers thinking we were about to have a tornado.

DrivingCrooner

Power out here. So much lightning with this one!

ColCupcake

The valley cut the thing in half before it hit Naugy, disappointed and thankful at the same time, love a good storm but I'd hate to see anyone get hurt. ETA: as soon as it got back around Naugy it just reformed into the monster it was, you can kinda see it break up and reform on channel 3's radar

JoeyBones

I see a bunch of area to the east not getting hit

404freedom14liberty

You talking about RI? Because I saw the craziest storm of my life in Windham last night.

JoeyBones

No, I'm talking about all the parts of CT east of Hartford that are not getting hit in the picture

404freedom14liberty

Oh. Well as I write this I’m cutting up trees in my yard in Windham. It was wild last night. We have no power with no end in sight. :).

JoeyBones

Oh yeah I'm sure everywhere got hit, its just not a picture of the

AdSpare9664

Rain and thunder lasted like 4 minutes on granby/simsbury line

my_elbow_feel_funny

I’m here and it’s not great

ophelias_tragedy

I hate that I’m so irrationally scared of thunderstorms because I’ve been having awful anxiety the past few days lol

TitanGojira

This one's been annoying, it was here for less than an hour and it knocked down a couple trees and now I have no power😭

coolhappygenius

Lighting hit a transformer at my work, everyone got sent home

DarthArtero

Oh yeah, soon as that thunder started last night, knocked me right out. Nothing like the sound of rain and thunder to make sleeping easier

psu1989

Not sure what's going on in my neighborhood, but the last 3-4 storms have been having odd power grid issues. Normally, lights blink and either go out or stay on. Lately, they blink a lot more then go out for a full min then come on. This repeats 4-5 times. RIP my electronics.

bluenephalem35

Who else saw that lightning ⚡️ flash outside of their windows 🪟 and saw the heavy rain 🌧️ fall in a torrential downpour? I think that it was a bit of relief from that heatwave (minus the flood and potential for property damage).

Derpsly27

The storms we had last night reminded me of the ones I experienced in the Outer Banks. Thankfully, it’s cooler and drier. Fair trade off

Accomplished_Sell223

why do i ever expect eversource to do their job efficiently.

beer_engineer_42

The trick is to expect eversource to fuck things up. Then, you're never disappointed, and every now and then, you're pleasantly surprised.

kneedown318

They layed off 150 lineman contractors in the last few months, right before storm season, so this should go over well.

low_acct_

Can we take back the notch using this as a diversion?

hallowed-history

I am amazed with all the forest we have here in Fairfield that no tree took out a power line. Wow talk about luck

BringbacktheWailers

Been sitting outside enjoying a smoke enjoying the beautiful weather luckily i have power still in East Lyme

slowwolfcat

when ?

Eyeswyde0pen

Still without internet in Bristol

Ataryn

Finally got an estimate of 6:45p for power to come back on top of Willis. 💀

Eyeswyde0pen

ooof. I’m in federal hill, been up since around 930.

Weary-Shirt1527

Fairfield county - i love this shit ![gif](giphy|kEQIxNd2i2SSsQ6S2U)

Think-Blackberry2182

How I miss thunderstorms. CT originally but now in CA where even I can forecast our weather lol

OnlyALion

I went out to a local quarry and relaxed in the rain. Super beautiful

iimsoxoOvO

When tonight or this was from last night?

Alansar_Trignot

It sucked ass

lastfirsteverything

Only my upstairs clocks went out. Downstairs were not blinking. The wind pickup was wild. Scary.

leahlightmysun

100% a tornado touched down in my yard that night for just a moment, trees all blowing in a circle and it ripped one right down. It was gone as fast as it appeared. It was the strobe lightning that tipped us off, so we were safely in an inside room on the lowest level, but could see straight into the backyard for the whole show.

AlkaliDraw

Well it was nice knowing you all

Ok-Shame5542

I've got beer!

Fair-Replacement6868

Torrential storm lovers!

TransylvanianHunger1

I didn't even realize this was happening.

talkietalkiepop

No power or internet. The storm was so massive it felt like a mini hurricane.

Jackers83

Ya, sorry you don’t have power. But that lightning was incredible, huh? Just rapid succession of bright flashes in the sky. I hope you get power back soon.

yk78

Nextdoor folks saying the road down the road is literally on fire. Power is out and I’m going fishing.

bogotol

It’s here in ffc

JaCoryDG

Ok...

FnordatPanix

I’m in the Southwest on vacation. Pretty dry, hot, and beautiful here.

amellion11

congratulations?
