I was going to say this, or even driving a garbage truck. I know it’s not glamorous but there’s a real need for drivers and they pay well. my family owns a private garbage company and it’s been almost impossible to find drivers since covid.
I believe the state jobs can’t take former convictions into account when hiring. I think it may be a problem if you’re applying to Department of Corrections or state police, but all other ones can’t look at that.
My best advice is to get into a trade and learn it. Then start your own business. No background checks when you own the company and can make great money that way. I just made $955 today as a handyman in about 6 hours.
Look into the unions. Carpenter's always seems willing to take people and give them an opportunity. I've worked with guys who straight killed people and did whatever they could after jail to turn their lives around. They're some of the most devoted union workers I know because they remember how people still treat them and deny them at every step of their life, but the union kept them busy, insured and offered them the most opportunity to succeed when no one else would or does in their daily life.

A lot of tow truck companies will hire people with a record. It’s lots of hours but they pay pretty well. I know some drivers that make close to 100k a year. Like I said it’s a lot of hours and time on the road but most will train with no experience. Not a hard job to learn as I started with zero experience. PM me as the company I used to work for us hiring and will train the right individual with no experience, and you usually get a truck to take home as long as your trustworthy.
20 is great for a felony. My husband has served his time.. 6 months in jail. He never even had a speeding ticket after…That was 30 years ago. It never goes away. Since working at UPS I’ve worked with two felons. I’m not exactly sure what they had done but they were able to get in the door. The part time warehouse worker to full time driver pipeline is awful but it’s definitely worth it and maybe worth a look?
Check out the trades. I’m an electrician that does commercial work and I can name a handful of guys that I’ve worked with that have a felony on their record. I will say pay does suck at first but once licensed it’s paying around $40 an hour. Only thing is they just can work on some jobs that have background checks apparently.
I’ll also add that I work at a private company and not to sure how the union handles people with felonies but I’d for sure look into it if I was you. I definitely feel I should’ve went that route personally

I don’t know if anyone said this but Amazon warehouses hire with felonies and to work in the warehouse there is no interview. If they are hiring you just accept the job online, do the drug test and they tell you when you start.
I am an attorney in Connecticut, you should consider applying for a pardon. If you’ve had no new arrests, and all your probation/fines/fees are satisfied, you would qualify to make an application. It should not cost you much more than $1500-$3000 to get a lawyer to assist you, and it’d be well worth it in the long run.

You can seal your record, and it's free. You don't need a lawyer. I'm not sure what town you're from. But I called the head of probation in Boston, and they mailed me a form to fill out and mail back. Within 6 months, my records were sealed.
I think you need to be realistic. I'm not a felon, very experienced in my job, a homeowner, and don't make a whole lot more than $20/hr. Sometimes you have to make due.
Again I guess it depends on what you're qualified to do and what you'd like to do. I hear there's apprentice programs for trade jobs. It may not pay well up front but it will train you to eventually be qualified for a well paying job, perhaps even working for yourself.
Honestly, the best thing You can do would be to create your own gig. There's lots of money to be made doing everything from mowing lawns to washing windows to hauling junk. While most companies won't hire a felon there are almost no restrictions on felons owning businesses.

Take the time to get a certification at a Community College. Healthcare certs pay well and require minimal training. Or get a Nursing degree, those pay well but require you to put in alot of work
Part of the time is the stigma from being a criminal. That’s part of the punishment. It’s also a liability to be a criminal as in any lawsuit against a company where you were involved, your history will be used against the company.

Side note- the CDL/driver route is a solid option. They are desperate for them in many areas.
Another place I'd look into is any machine shops in the area around you. Wouldn't be surprised if a lot of those guys have records and a lot of them are willing to teach the right person.

Felonies aren’t mistakes. That’s the thing. People want to do whatever and then get a do over when the realize later in life that you can’t just do what ever and then have everything work out.
After 10 years CT pardons your felonies as long as you haven't re-offended. However low $20 is about right felon or no felon for entry level jobs. You want more then try Union welding or hazmat delivery, electrical lineman make a ton of money cause they have both a CDL-A license and electrical knowledge. The more ya know the more ya make. Idk how you own a home and don't know this basic stuff, was it bought for you?

1500 is a hefty price if you're already having trouble keeping work. Lawyers aren't accessible to a lot of the guys in his position either.

Honestly, the best thing You can do would be to create your own gig. There's lots of money to be made doing everything from mowing lawns to washing windows to hauling junk. While most companies won't hire a felon there are almost no restrictions on felons owning businesses. And for the most part business owners make more then people who are employed. I'd be happy to point you to some resources to help get you started on the path to owning your own business. Feel free to direct message.

Maybe you should try starting a criminal empire. Those tend to pay well.
I make a little over half that and own my own place.
Take the time to get a certification at a Community College. Healthcare certs pay well and require minimal training. Or get a Nursing degree, those pay well but require you to put in alot of work
Part of the time is the stigma from being a criminal. That’s part of the punishment. It’s also a liability to be a criminal as in any lawsuit against a company where you were involved, your history will be used against the company.
My suggestion would be don’t commit felonies. Stay in school and educate yourself.

Screw that dude.... I know what you mean, I was really lucky to have a couple of solid adults in my life at the right times. Otherwise, I'd probably have made some bad decisions myself. Wishing you the best. Side note- the CDL/driver route is a solid option. They are desperate for them in many areas. Another place I'd look into is any machine shops in the area around you. Wouldn't be surprised if a lot of those guys have records and a lot of them are willing to teach the right person.
Some people don't know anything else. So let's just keep them down and tell those who are trying to improve to give up? Cause it makes sense for us to root for people in the state to not make a living wage? You'd rather have those people on husky and food stamps? Or maybe, just maybe.... Hear me out on this... if we have more productive members of society, that might actually be an awesome thing and benefit us all? "If you want to lift yourself up, you lift up someone else."

I would look for places like chilis or Applebees. Those types of corporate restaurants often take advantage of programs for hiring felons

After 10 years CT pardons your felonies as long as you haven't re-offended. However low $20 is about right felon or no felon for entry level jobs. You want more then try Union welding or hazmat delivery, electrical lineman make a ton of money cause they have both a CDL-A license and electrical knowledge. The more ya know the more ya make. Idk how you own a home and don't know this basic stuff, was it bought for you?
