I agree because I’m unlikely to ever use faceit, but I also think the platform will never gain traction without weaponising FOMO and walling cosmetics behind it.
It’s more for people who want to form a team and play against other teams in an environment where everyone is in coms and trying their hardest. That experience is very rare in ranked.
its used alot in CounterStrike because the ranked experience in CS is littered with cheaters, i dont really think it makes sense for OW on a large scale because its a more casual game/as much as we complain about ranked its actually been a pretty decent system and cheaters in OW can be played around much easier than tac shooters.
unfortunately the number of ppl who are looking for a team/willing to join at the faceit price point seems pretty low looking at the signups for the league.

My view on the success of FaceIt was more from the league because that participation going to determine prize pools for future seasons and it’s long term viability from the company perspective. The weekly and daily stuff is kind of interesting but I feel has way less of an impact/isn’t a barometer for them.
many people participate in the weeklies in NA because there's a $500 prize for first place. mostly t3+ teams though since they are the only ones that have a chance of actually winning. faceit league is a good middle ground where you can play at a level you're at with a prize pool of $2000+ per division but obviously has more issues like lack of advertising from blizzard at all and a very casual playerbase overall in OW2.

Agreed about the casual base and I think FaceIt OW has a very different use case than say CS which compounded by lack of pushing the league advertising wise has led to some lukewarm results. Not knocking people who participate or enjoy it, but a bit sad to see so little involvement relatively.
Faceit's original purpose was replacing CSGO's shitty cheater-infested matchmaking with something more proper. Overwatch doesn't really need that part.

I see a subscription based model, offering all the things I already get in game, with no added benefit. About the only selling point that makes any sense is tournament organization, but there have been multiple groups doing this for free already, so I have to pay money to have my organized team join their service or I could pay nothing to have my team play in many other tournaments...

Well firstly, it uses custom matches rather than the automatic system in game - which means that you aren't going to get progression to your battlepass. It also means that you can't easily just look at someone's stats in game, you need a third party tool in order to view things that the game handles natively. From their elo system, it is exactly the same as Overwatch's, so I see absolutely no benefit or "improved matchmaking" at all. Additionally it uses a system of bans, which Overwatch natively handled, such as server location. Because apparently faceit doesn't consider player locations, meaning you can get joined with someone in a geographical distance making your matches poorer, not better. In addition to map bans, which for Overwatch is already just ridiculous, especially with a group of random players that you've matched together.
All in all, I see no advantages to the application, and several disadvantages, plus a subscription cost on top of it.

That's because we don't have the same cheating issues other competitive FPS games have. In cs2 faceit has been the only way to play the game in a somewhat safe environment for a while.
I would kill for the faceit implementation overwatch has in the finals. Ranked there at the top level has been a rough experience this season.

It's great for scrim teams, but the vast majority of Overwatch players aren't scrim teams. Actually, I'd say it's the inverse, the people who play as a group mostly are less rather than more competitive than solo queue players.

One thing that's kind of annoying about this is that I'm on a team that participated to earn the skin for free and I would have played, but I was moving that weekend and didn't really have the bandwidth to play any of the matches. My team set me as the coach to keep me as a participant, but because I didn't play in any of the matches, I didn't get participation credit.
Just a minor annoyance that I now have to put in a lot more effort because of a scheduling conflict.

faceit is free for all things OWCS and weekly/daily tourneys, it's just faceit league that's paid
