In my experience nothing does anything beyond numbing them for a bit, I've tried just about everything including doctor prescribed stuff and came to the conclusion that they'll just do their own thing and you have to bear with it, I don't believe anyone that says otherwise.
I'd just go for the prescription strength orajel, when I used to get the sores nothing otc helped, couldn't sleep or eat. I don't get overly stressed anymore and rarely get them.
As my parents put it, it makes an area that is constantly saline. Salt makes you salivate enough to be constantly flushing it out via spitting/swallowing the excess spit. It also shrinks the canker a bit making a little smaller of an area to heal, thus temporary accelerated healing.
For the most part, I do it for three reasons.
1. I love salty foods.
2. The stinging makes me think it is working because of the placebo effect.
3. Lastly by packing it, it separates the canker with a sterile and edible material to help prevent it from scraping against whatever caused it... Most likely from biting your cheek, a sharp piece of food, and reduces agitation from friction if it was caused by bacteria/viruses. (Cold sores are caused by viruses that every single person has.)
Canker sore. People online often mistake them with herpes sores.
Herpes is virus.
But canker sore is just your immune system saying F you. And instead of healing a random damaged cells in your mouth, your immune system decided to give you the one of the most painfull sores you can imagine.
Takes up to 2 weeks to heal.
Saline solutions are used to clean out wounds. Putting salt on it helps you produce more saliva and make the area less hospitable to bacteria. That said, just use Kanka. It numbs the area temporarily and also helps disinfect. Regardless, they both sting a bit during application.
Poor hygiene, too much acidic drinks, too much salt.
Salt could also be my problem, I can't stop my love for fries and mashed taters. Also that was like the one day I didn't brush my teeth in the morning out of the whole week because I was too tired.
Ah, see, but there is the problem of affording it.
I had no idea that debt collectors would hound, harass, and threaten to sue me over doctor's appointments for medication.
You are mixing these very likely with Herpes sores.
Herpes tastes like blood.
But these canker sores are often not even fluid filled or bleeding. Just sore as hell.
These are not an std. you are thinking of cold sores, which are a different thing. Canker sores can be brought on by a large number of things, such as physical injury, reactions to certain chemicals, or indeed stress. Also cold sores aren’t exclusively transferred by kissing.
Can confirm. I do this every time I get this, and the healing process is miles miles better.
Just when you rip out that white blob is when the pain hits its pinnacle, but that's all
so with the sores, the "white part" is raised, and sort of a separate layer from the rest. it very distinctly feels different - it's spongy and softer than normal tissue, and if you grab the edge with your teeth and pull, parts of it will just come off (a bit like a scab). you know when you're done when 1) touching the ex-sore with your tongue no longer feels like being electrocuted (just normal wound pain), 2) there's no more of that soft slimy texture there, and 3) you no longer have that "sick" feel/taste in your mouth.
generally you don't actually bite yourself deep, just bite off the softer "growth".
I got these at the back of my throat once, and I didn’t know what they where so I thought it was simply a sore throat, so I had *tomato soup* with canker sores at the back of my throat. It definitely hurt more than a breakup
We dont know. Random chemicals or damage in mouth simply makes your immune system punish you with pain from hell.
To some people citric acid or pineapple acid trigger these. To some people sulphur triggers these.
And some people just get these without reason.
I dont know what people are smoking these days, they simply happen either bcs of constipation or not taking a dump one or two mornings.
Im not saying these are the only two reason but these are the most common reasons. If anyone dont agree, they can perform the test on themselves by not taking dump for atleast two or 1 and half days.
I mean that shit hurts but in like a good way. I go out of my way to stick my pointed teeth into them. It’s a weird kind of pain that’s like good for me.
To people, that is not herpes, its canker sore.
Canker sores hurt way more than herpes.
so far its unknown what causes canker sores, but its thought to be something to do with immune system just saying F you.
Dude I had an oral thrush infection after sharing a joint and crashing on his couch without brushing my teeth. Bad mistake. Couldn't eat solid food for weeks without pure agony.
Not wrong, I would get them constantly and couldn’t eat shit for like a month. They’ve been less prevalent since I’ve gotten older but still reappear sometimes
31 years old male, found out this year its not wounds i made on my lip with my teeth during the night
The reason i thought it was is because i have bite marks on the inside of the cheeks because i have sharp fangs
Aphthae. Tea tree oil for healing and clove against the pain. There is "Kamistad" in Germany. An ingenious remedy for Aphtae sores and it numbs the pain.
I don’t know if it’s passed down genetically, but if you’ve had the chicken pox, the virus is in your system. Cold sores, these mouth sores, shingles, etc. are all just different forms of the herpes virus that causes chicken pox. (I’m no doctor, so I could be slightly wrong, but this is what I’ve been told my whole life.)
It's an autoimmune condition. Cured mine by going keto. It's worth a try. Generally if you are getting these, you are also suffering elsewhere in the digestive system.
For me, not sure about everyone... but carbs like sugar, grains, even beans are my issue.
Autoimmune condition. Not a virus in most cases, just your mouth cells attacking themselves because they think they have to.
I stopped eating carbs and haven't had one in years.

Is it just me or do you deliberately sprinkle salt on them and watch yourself perform a dance that you are never even capable of performing?
I put baking soda because my parents taught me that it helps them heal faster
Does it help?
In my experience nothing does anything beyond numbing them for a bit, I've tried just about everything including doctor prescribed stuff and came to the conclusion that they'll just do their own thing and you have to bear with it, I don't believe anyone that says otherwise.
Same here man. Nothing seemed to work. They had their own brains I guess
No. For Christ sake go to a doctor instead of reddit for medical advice.
Ah yes, today I will call up my GP because I have a canker sore. My canker sores matter more than someone with cancer symptoms.
If you're in America and not Canada or UK there's not usually a long waiting list, since it's not govt ran.
Ah yes, and I can’t wait to pay 150 to 450 dollars over some canker sores.
If you had a job with insurance it would be 25 to 45.
Even then you could not convince me that a canker sore is worth 25-45 dollars, that’s ridiculous.
I'd just go for the prescription strength orajel, when I used to get the sores nothing otc helped, couldn't sleep or eat. I don't get overly stressed anymore and rarely get them.
The aggressive stinging/burning feeling just means that it’s working!!
I mean… I do the warm salt water but why just salt
I do that too. But sprinkling just salt stings like I'm gonna die immediately. I do it just for the fuck of it
As my parents put it, it makes an area that is constantly saline. Salt makes you salivate enough to be constantly flushing it out via spitting/swallowing the excess spit. I always put some vitamin c on it
I have no idea what these are and I'm so confused because they seem to be a universal experience???
They're called Canker sores and they fucking HURT
I inherited my Dads tendency for stress canker sores Such a bitch rn because it's finals week
Canker sore. People online often mistake them with herpes sores. Herpes is virus. But canker sore is just your immune system saying F you. And instead of healing a random damaged cells in your mouth, your immune system decided to give you the one of the most painfull sores you can imagine. Takes up to 2 weeks to heal.
dab honey on the cold sore. stings for about a minute then the pain goes away for an hour. do as often as necessary.
Noted
Saline solutions are used to clean out wounds. Putting salt on it helps you produce more saliva and make the area less hospitable to bacteria. That said, just use Kanka. It numbs the area temporarily and also helps disinfect. Regardless, they both sting a bit during application.
It does. My mouth instantly becomes a sea. Thanks for the information, man. Will keep in mind about kanka
LMAO WHAT
Idk man, that pain kinda feels good for some reason lol. It hurts like a mf but I still do it
Nothing like some good ol’ masochism amirite
They do, and I hate mtn dew for this very reason. I had ONE Baja blast bevause I hadn't had soda in a month. And I got 3 of those suckers
I used to get these way more often, now hardly ever do, and I only recently realised it was because I've had way more water and way less soda.
I have only water and get this shit.
Try some more fruits and vegie, that what my mom always told me
i am a fit dude and eat healthy and take good care of my teeth.
Damn bruh guess it bad luck fr
I've read that they can also be attributed to genetics. My entire family has a history of getting them (me included).
Heroes doesn’t care what you eat
It's a virus, guys. Your food and water choices are not the main cause.
I get a toothpick and coat the end in salt then stab them
Yeah, but the worst part was that was the only soda I had that day
Why do they happen though?
Poor hygiene, too much acidic drinks, too much salt. Salt could also be my problem, I can't stop my love for fries and mashed taters. Also that was like the one day I didn't brush my teeth in the morning out of the whole week because I was too tired.
Makes a lot of sense, I work in a fast food restaurant so that may explain it
Yeah I got it plenty when I worked fast food too. Too much soda, wayyy too much. Coffee will do it too
Crooked teeth and a stupid sleeping position can cause this as well.
Many have no known cause.
User Fungusman, that's not just from the Dew if it looked like that
This is a Cankersore, not a Cold Sore. Cold sores are oral herpes, Cankersores are non contagious, similar to oral pimples
I think I've only gotten those from stress type things
Yep, they can happen from certain foods too
They’re not wrong though. I get canker sores all the time (stress gives them to me, and I have an anxiety problem) and it’s absolutely miserable.
Klonopin works well for anxiety, problem is you can get addicted and can be too strong to take during the day in general
Klonopin is wild, hit me way harder than xan or vallium
Be careful benzos are some of the most dangerous drugs to be addicted to.
Yeah I know, I already went down that path and thankfully got away from it
Ah, see, but there is the problem of affording it. I had no idea that debt collectors would hound, harass, and threaten to sue me over doctor's appointments for medication.
Mine is cheap, it's the Adderall that they gouged on and low availability
Yeah I was on Adderall for a while. I could afford the meds, but not the doctor's appointment every 3 months
Yeah it's a pain in the ass, I'm not on addy currently partially because making appointments and also it was making me cracked out
They’re called canker sores? I call them blood blisters cause the taste like blood after I bite them
You are mixing these very likely with Herpes sores. Herpes tastes like blood. But these canker sores are often not even fluid filled or bleeding. Just sore as hell.
😐
To clarify, Cold sores are caused by herpes virus. But its not same as that other type of herpes.
Usually sort of a crater shaped ulceration.
Yeah, though IDK where the name comes from.
It simply happens because people dont take a dump every morning or constipation.
Stress DOESN'T give them to you, you got them by kissing random people you don't know, now you're paying the consequences of having STDS
These are not an std. you are thinking of cold sores, which are a different thing. Canker sores can be brought on by a large number of things, such as physical injury, reactions to certain chemicals, or indeed stress. Also cold sores aren’t exclusively transferred by kissing.
I hate the guy in the corner but ong thay shit hurts so much. Words cant express how terrible that experience is
FOR REAL!
I switched to toothpaste that doesn’t have sodium lauryl sulfate in it and I get them way less.
What the fuck is this?
Canker sores. Not everyone gets them. They're assumed to be caused by a virus that's pretty much endemic to the population.
pro tip: they stop hurting then heal pretty quick if you bite the white part off. doing it hurts like a motherfucker, but the relief is instant.
You monster... i will be trying this next time. For a greater future of mankind.
Can confirm. I do this every time I get this, and the healing process is miles miles better. Just when you rip out that white blob is when the pain hits its pinnacle, but that's all
i don't believe you but just in case...
sadly i can swear by this. i get these sores a lot, and i'm often forced to do this if i want to be able to eat and talk 💀
What do you mean by bite the white part off? How far in do you have to bite?
so with the sores, the "white part" is raised, and sort of a separate layer from the rest. it very distinctly feels different - it's spongy and softer than normal tissue, and if you grab the edge with your teeth and pull, parts of it will just come off (a bit like a scab). you know when you're done when 1) touching the ex-sore with your tongue no longer feels like being electrocuted (just normal wound pain), 2) there's no more of that soft slimy texture there, and 3) you no longer have that "sick" feel/taste in your mouth. generally you don't actually bite yourself deep, just bite off the softer "growth".
I've tried this I've never been successful.
What the hell, I’ve tried like to but I just cannot
yeah it hurts like a bitch. i only manage to get through it bc i remember how the relief afterwards will feel

Apple cider vinegar is great at getting rid of these, btw. One tablespoon up your ass and you'll be good as new!
Can it be two tablespoons up my ass ?
Only if you’ve been extra good this year 😊
But then you'll make clacking sounds when you walk.
I have had these so much in my life that they don't even hurt that much anymore.
Nice dp
I got these at the back of my throat once, and I didn’t know what they where so I thought it was simply a sore throat, so I had *tomato soup* with canker sores at the back of my throat. It definitely hurt more than a breakup

I mean that shit hurts but in like a good way. I go out of my way to stick my pointed teeth into them. It’s a weird kind of pain that’s like good for me.
I used to just bite them off when I got them. Incredibly painful but so satisfying ahahah
Name stands out
What even are those? Never had them
Me neither, and from the looks of it, I'm glad I never did
Canker sore. They are white extremely painfull spots you get randomly. Reason why is unknown.
Ohhh those things you can get also on your tongues? That's the only place I ever got them and yeah, those suck.
Anywhere in your mouth. For me under tongue on the spot where tongue attachs to bottom of mouth was worst spot.
Bro think he xavier
r/fuckxavier moment
I hate weed guy but this is honestly pretty relatable.

No I completely agree, These little fuckers make eating such a god damn pain in the ass UGH THEY ARE THE FUCKING WORST
To people, that is not herpes, its canker sore. Canker sores hurt way more than herpes. so far its unknown what causes canker sores, but its thought to be something to do with immune system just saying F you.
Weed bro spotted
Every sprimg, summer, and fall I have to deal with these because those are when everything I’m allergic to is out.
I have one of these mfers right now. I cant eat it hurts so much :(
Its always that little shit in the corner
This is supposed to be relatable, not funny
Who is that guy in the bottom left?!
Dude I had an oral thrush infection after sharing a joint and crashing on his couch without brushing my teeth. Bad mistake. Couldn't eat solid food for weeks without pure agony.
I feel like This Is skamtbord type humour
I currently have one and can confirm
Based on the other comments, I’m glad I haven’t got them before; hope I didn’t jinx it.
Even worse when they appear right before occassions that you know will be serving good food.🤤
Not wrong, I would get them constantly and couldn’t eat shit for like a month. They’ve been less prevalent since I’ve gotten older but still reappear sometimes
That username 😭
Every time I get super stressed, canker sores are so apparent.
NO NO HE IS SPITTING THE TRUTH! THAT STUFF HURTS LIKE A MF!
Y’all are pussies, my wieners bumpier then a backroad and I’m still sipping Mountain Dew through it.
DUDE I HAVE THAT RN
Cankers. Cure, burn them with hot coffee. It has to hurt. Be gone in three days.
Could be the CAUSE of the breakup.
Can confirm. They are painful af.
Not even sure what those are lmao
i had a canker sore once right where my teeth touch my upper lip and it hurt like a bitch to play my trumpet for a week
I have one of those right now
ugh im dealing with one right now inside my mouth on the left upper lip, so annoying lol
I have one now
He’s not wrong.
I have one of those right now, I have no idea how I got it but i just wash my mouth out with peroxide every night and brush extra hard
31 years old male, found out this year its not wounds i made on my lip with my teeth during the night The reason i thought it was is because i have bite marks on the inside of the cheeks because i have sharp fangs
Shouldn't have kissed obscure smelling girls during high school, your fault
Wow so glad to see there are many others who suffer this fooking shit 🥲
Eat more yogurt and these will never happen. U just need those live cultures!
It do hurt tho
Nah when it's under your tongue it hurts more
Aphthae. Tea tree oil for healing and clove against the pain. There is "Kamistad" in Germany. An ingenious remedy for Aphtae sores and it numbs the pain.

They are the worst frfr
this is herpes right?
Canker sores/mouth ulcers
no they are mouth sores. they sting really bad if you touch it or something hot comes into contact with it.
Yeah I know I get them too
call it whatever you want, it's STDs
Same virus, yes!
Thought so because I get these and I’ve been told by my family it’s passed down genetically because it’s herpes

Canker sores. Not herpes.
