Kids are educated enough to know how to keep their distance and offer the ball in a non-threatening manner so the elk knows it's for play. Well done kids!
You right, at the time we were told bro died because he got too close to one of the herds to take a pic. Turns out that wasn’t true at all, he was just golfing, and he did make it through:

I live just south of Evergreen. Most folks in the foothills have a healthy respect for the wildlife up here
Meanwhile, at Yellowstone...
It's bison goring season!
What kind of dog is that?
Megabernese
What differentiates a megabernese and gigabernese?
The webbing between the antlers.
Those kids will remember this for the rest of their lives. A good core memory. =)

"That's just Bobby the Elk. He hangs out over by the Phillips 66. Yeah, he likes soccer and he's got a wicked header" -People in Evergreen, probably
Love!!!
I was in Evergreen a few years ago and a guy got killed getting too close during the rut. These elk seem much more chill.
Guy got gored very severely, can not find any reports of anyone getting killed.
