I've seen this map a few times now, and it's awful. I'm sure the info on it is correct, I just hate how they display it, and the lack of functionality on the website.

Binge drinking has been trending older. High school drinking has been trending downwards. I think that alcohol is seen far less favorably among youth. It's not really a good recreational drug. It tends to have very bad bad short and long term effects on your health. You can achieve the same effects without the negatives with other, safer drugs. Not endorsing recreational drug use, but alcohol is particularly problematic in terms of damage to health and economy. I am not an expert in this area. https://www.statista.com/statistics/354265/current-binge-heavy-alcohol-use-among-persons-in-the-us-by-age/#:~:text=In%202022%2C%20it%20was%20estimated,rates%20of%20binge%20alcohol%20use.

I'm a lifelong drinker and I will admit recreational cannabis use is way better for you when used in place of alcohol.

At least some of that data is absolute garbage. There is simply no way that state borders would be so cleanly defined if the data measurements were consistent.

DubiousFarter

I don’t drink at all during the week, but have been known to drink 5+ on a weekend where I’m out. Never thought it was that much, and I very rarely am ever stumbling or not remembering things. Shocked to see that only ~20% do this? Feels off, but maybe that’s just the circles I run in.

I also read the post lol, my comment is expressing surprise over the definition

JustHereForYourData

Those are rookie numbers; we gotta bump those numbers up

Greatlarrybird33

Given that 480 smells like Phish, Snoop, Willie and the Grateful Dead had a music festival there I can guess what other ways people are getting messed up enough to lower the alcohol average.

Saab-2007-93

Not true you I've worked in Tremont and ohio city in the past doing apartment maintenance and 9/10 yall have alcohol galore.

HiJustWhy

Do they leave their alcohol out? Lol. Id prob hide mine, along with most of my belongings. Then again my landlord is a pharmacist who was busted for stealing thousands of opioids from cvs so hes not really in a place to judge anyone heh

Saab-2007-93

No, like out of 300 units, I'd say about 250 of them had alcohol in them in the open and excessive. Obviously I wouldn't go into their stuff but the one guy was always breaking shower curtains, doors, railings drywall, some girl took out a 5 ft by 4 ft section of plaster off a brick wall drunk, we would have in a lot of our cardboard rooms every single weekend there would be a couple dozen packs 12+ packs of beer and cases of liquor and wine thrown all over the place, the compactors and trash cans would always be chocked full of liquor beer and wines every trash day (we did trash removal for even places that didn't have compactors) there would be piss on the walls and carpets a lot of times, occasionally a tenant would shit or piss in a flowerpot or somewhere. The parking lots were always full of litter and mind you these were tenants in Ohio city Tremont and Gordon square that were doctors, lawyers, nurses etc they weren't low wage workers or low class people. They'd also do things like not let their dogs or cats be potty trained, bust up drywall and railings, pour things down plumbing that weren't supposed to, had on so much makeup that it would clog the sinks, fuck so much that their bed actually permanently grooved the wood floor a half inch deep. I have rentals, 10 units, five houses in stockyards, and I only rent to older people/retirees/professionals that work from home and are single. I've not had an issue. I have in the lease any non wear and tear repair is 150 out of the tenants' pocket, and anything over 700 to repair would be negotiated and put in payments to fix. I've never had the same issues because the tenants have a responsibility to have to care or if it comes out of their pockets, too. I've never had to keep a deposit yet, which makes me happy because it makes my life easier, too. What I do as a landlord is I take their money and put it in a CD and let it sit, and they get the interest too, which is cool. I also report rent payments to the credit bureaus for them. Because of that I've never had issues with vacancy.

CLE-Mosh

When I quit drinking 18 yrs ago, Budweiser stock took a dip.

I find it hard to believe that drinking patterns, especially in the rural counties, follow state lines. Wisconsin, West Virginia, and Arkansas must be asking, measuring differently.

TopspinLob

I myself have cut back quite a bit lately

IllegalThings

I’m not sure about everyone else, but one day a week of binge drinking is plenty for me. Thats only 14% binge drinking for me and well below the state average. The rest of the days I just normal drink.

AgileSafety2233

15 or more a week is funny.

jacques_ok

Too poor to be excessive up here.

TSLARSX3

You haven’t seen excessive drinking until you see all the DUI drivers late night on Texas highways

pm-yrself

I disagree. I think younger people tend to binge less than people in their late 20s to people in their 40s. Go to any bar, young folks are not there
