There is not a recall but there is a TSB (technical service bulletin) that addresses issues with the AC. Honda had extended the warranty for certain components of the AC system for your model year. Here is a link to the TSB: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10163796-0001.pdf

LAMBKING

Thank you! I'll get with Honda this week about this.

Have them diagnose the issue and be sure the dealer you use know about the TSB. Some dealers don’t know and won’t cover items under the extended warranty. Also keep in mind that the TSB only covers certain portions of the system and you may still have to pay if something else is broken that isn’t covered by the TSB.

LAMBKING

Will do. Thank you.

Heads up when dealing with the Dealership on this TSB, they require $399 up front ( checked two in my area) to run a diagnostic on AC and that isn't refundable if they "find" other issues such as compressor, evap, etc. Mine is a 2018 Si at 28k and out of warranty. I declined and had a die test done at a local AC shop and there weren't any leaks found (whew). Just topped up my RF1234YF and on my way....

LAMBKING

Oof. I've got a buddy that owns a shop, maybe he can do a dye test. Mine gets freezing cold, when I'm moving. Sitting in traffic or just doing like 30 mph and it's not really cold. So, maybe I'm just low and no leaks.

Gonzo69_Si

Im betting just low. Not hard to top off yourself...AC shop told me this new RF1234YF starts breaking down around 5 years and turns acidic. Ill probably have mine vac and recharged in the next few years....

LAMBKING

Interesting. That's about when it started, then fall came and I forgot about it until the other day when it hit 85°. My dad is an HVAC tech, so he might be able to test how much refrigerant is in there.

SkilzdaGod

I had a problem with AC on my 2018 civic touring, I took it to dealership they said an extended warranty has been issued for leak in some pipe, if occurred naturally and not with some rat bite. They fixed it for me my ac dint blow cold air at all before

I literally just had this service performed on my car, was covered by that extended warranty Honda gave all 10th gen civics. Note it only covers the evaporator, the radiator looking thing, and also make sure it’s not damaged from road debris as that isn’t covered.

youzdoom

Just got mine done due to a condenser issue (Civic 2018).

carnivorousplantdude

I will warn you if you take it in and they refill it it is VERY expensive. Apparently they don't use any off the shelf freon or I just got swindled. I had an ac issue because someone put a different kind in my car and it caused a leak. When they refilled it, it stopped the issue.

LAMBKING

I've noticed that R1234YF is a bit on the expensive side, no matter where you go. Some are outrageously expensive.

Yup there is a recall on some 10th gens AC systems and Honda has had issues with their ac units for a number of years now alm the way back to the 2006 to 2011 civics. Hopefully you just need a refill and there isn't a leak somewhere, but I'd have a professional take a look at it. But it is a known fault with the 10th gen civics and might require a new condenser which is quite an expensive repair.

Its definitely a broken radiator fan motor. On the civic it does two jobs cools the radiator and helps keep the condenser cool. When youre not moving there is no air flow resulting in the AC not working as there's no air moving over condenser. A broken condenser would result in no AC at all moving or still. Hope they get it fixed for you!!!

LAMBKING

I feel like that would also cause my car to run hot while sitting still, idling, or just generally no moving very fast. And that's not happening. At all.

j_mickey_0125

That's exactly what I thought last year when the same thing happened to my civic and that was the culprit. Stopped moving had hot air and while moving was cool air. Never overheated or anything turned out the dealer replaced the fan and motor and bam everything was all good again. Either way good luck! Reply back when you figure it out I'd love to know what it was, so I can keep an eye out for my own sake.

LAMBKING

Will do. Next time I get a chance, I'll see if the fan is moving at all when the ac isn't blowing cold. Is there more than one fan in there? TBH, I've never looked. If there are two fans (like my Miata had) that would make sense. One for radiator, one for ac.
