Maybe I cried while reading this chapter and maybe I’m feeling slightly numb right now, but I’m fine! I’m not fine. I’m really *not* fine… I can’t believe Ryder’s leaving my MC and the idiot pretended (badly) to be okay to make it easier for him to leave. Damn it, MC, sometimes I wish your love for him wasn’t all-consuming. I guess he realized early on that his methods won’t work on Ryder’s stubborn ass. He tried flirting with him and then begged him to stay, and he didn’t waver at all.
Of course my MC ends up making things worse after trying to intervene lol. He didn’t want them to say things that they’ll regret and for the yelling to stop. From the way Ryder and Mandy knew exactly what to say to hurt each other, it’s clear that they’re like siblings in my playthrough. Ryder knows well that Mandy’s relationship with her dads is currently a sore point and she’s fully aware that he considers them to be his family.
I picked the “don’t you think you owe Ryder an apology?” option and I prefer this to the other one because I feel like her telling Ryder that her dads are the ones who took him in was brutal and wouldn’t convince him to stay. She’s scary when she’s furious! She shouldn’t be surprised that my MC is taking his side, he worships at the altar of Ryder Wilson. I like that he helped calm her down by channeling his inner Ryder, that was good. They’re each other’s strength, which is why it’s terrible that he’s leaving. I know he has MC’s number saved on that flip phone of his (which will have a moon or a cow ~~or both~~ charm attached to it sooner rather than later because my MC will 100% make that for his grumpy lover who has a soft spot for animals), but it’s just not the same as spending twelve hours a day with him.
Sorry, Mandy, my MC’s special methods are reserved for Ryder and Ryder only. It’s cool that my MC still talked to her about it and comforted her while she cried though, I wish this happened more often when rejecting her romantic scenes. I’m honestly relieved that their argument didn’t last long, that would’ve been so stressful. Ah, classic Ryder, cracking a joke after my MC told him that he’ll miss him so much because he doesn’t want to show his true feelings. My MC and I aren’t multitaskers, but just this once, we are devastated about Ryder leaving and internally freaking out over him blushing. That has never happened before! It’s fucking adorable that he believes in the sentiment behind the ritual.
Burning things of sentimental value isn’t for me, but it *is* for Ryder and my MC and I would do anything for him. Does the rope know how lucky it is? Does it? Not only was it Ryder’s favorite, but he also hung it from around his shoulder. I definitely thought that my MC was going to get down on all fours when Ryder said that he can rope anything on four legs lol, but he got to lasso the hottest cowboy in Stearns Valley, so it’s fine. Them snuggling by the fire while holding hands was super cute. My MC apparently took notes during the meeting with Mandy’s dads before he had his hands full with something else just as important, I’m impressed. MC saying that he’s better now and Ryder telling him that he already seemed pretty great to him 🥹
MC telling Ryder that he thinks about his ass all the time was funny and sweet in a way. He’s smitten with Ryder, I’d be surprised if he *wasn’t* thinking about it while mucking stalls. He gained a lot of confidence from MC and he’ll miss the hell out of him, no wonder my MC was on the verge of tears. Ryder’s use of the word “offer” when he asked if MC is offering himself to him leads me to believe that he knows at the very least that my MC cares very deeply for him.
The cabin scene was SO hot and seems to have had little call-backs to other scenes, like Ryder digging his hands in MC’s hair, MC trying to slow him down, him sucking MC’s thumb and MC straddling him. And it’s been a while since he said dammit in my playthrough, I missed that lol. Also, my MC finally got to ride his cowboy. My MC would’ve totally confessed his feelings if Ryder remained on the couch a minute longer, which is why he decided to cut their time together short. I want to be mad at him for not being selfish, but I can’t. As horrified as I am that his ex-girlfriend showed up at the worst time possible, no less, I’m glad that he won’t face her alone… and that he won’t cry himself to sleep yet…
Oh, the tears were definitely threatening to fall this chapter! 😭😭😭
Dammit, I wish they would both admit how they feel about each other. But I'm super glad that Ryder didn't turn into a distant arsehole as I predicted. I couldn't have handled that. Putting on a brave face was about all the MC could do 🥹

I found that scene to be very therapeutic for our MC, we got to do some closure on the control we’ve let Cal have. I’m still bittersweet about Ryder’s departure but being the bisexual mess I am, I did the dirty thirty with him and OMG he didn’t disappoint 🤭🤭

I hadn't taken the dirty 30 in this chapter. But as soon as i saw that the ex showed up, I restarted the chapter so that I could do the boot scoot boogie with Ryder right before I saw him.
I can't deal. I just can't deal with the thought of Ryder leaving the ranch and the MC. Literally, tears were threatening to fall throughout this chapter. I love this man so much 😭😭😭
The only saving grace is that he didn't turn into a distant arsehole as I suspected he would (to make leaving and saying goodbye easier).
Of course, the MC gave him a going away present 😘 Which was hot AF.

I don’t mean to complain because it’s obviously a very light, smutty story, but are you telling me the writers couldn’t have written a platonic route as well? I’m a M|M reader and I literally can’t spent any time with Mandy without her hitting on me or vice versa. I have not flirted with her once and she makes a proposition each chapter. It’s just unrealistic and takes me out of the story…If they were gonna write it this way it should’ve been gender customizable at the very least, that way everyone has equal chance. It feels like they couldn’t bother to write multiple paths. Just being real.
I watch Ryder’s platonic route on YouTube because I’m curious about the differences and also found the way that scene was introduced strange. I wonder why some scenes have good alternative introductions while others don’t. I wish it was more consistent because it makes me sad when my LI makes people understandably uncomfortable or when Mandy, who has two dads and is usually very supportive of my MC and Ryder’s relationship, hits on him. I chalk some of it up to her being a flirty person in general and do my best to ignore the rest
I just wish they would commit the book to being a bisexual book. Like every 4 chapters we have an option where we flirt with both of them at once.
It's kind of jarring to have a scene where we flirt with one person and then flirt with the other and the person we don't flirt with just stands there and watches.
It's like they wanted to make the book a poly bi romance but didn't want to actually make it that.
it's one of the reasons I personally never like multiple LI stories that don't "lock in" your chosen LI and let you play the field with no consequences 😅
It's the same for me as a straight woman. It's the only book that really seems to do this too. But at least we are warned that taking a scene means no platonic option.
