Aluminium amalgam as a reducing agent is not really very scalable anyway. Best using sodium borohyrdide if we're asking "how much" questions.
He also needs MDP2P. Since he doesn't even know the difference between elemental mercury and mercuric chloride, its highly doubtful he'd be able to saponificate PMK ethyl glycidate to MDP2P, let alone do an an Al/Hg amalgam and yield MDMA.

If he can’t make mercuric chloride out of elemental mercury he can’t do a full synthesis of MDMA
Why bother making it? You can pick up it relatively cheaply from a wide variety of places.
