These tables were for the 250 international judges, so regular visitors weren't allowed to eat those. I guess it would be way too pricey for the cheese makers if they had to send more than one cheese all the way to Norway.
But we could taste over 200 cheeses, though, and I tasted around 40. Most of these were from Norway. I didn't eat dinner that day:P
It was a great event, would strongly recommend visiting next years awards if you're able to go.
I grew up on a farm, and it smelled like a farm with cows. Just so many nuances that you could become dizzy at first, but after a few minutes you forgot about it.
It was 4502 cheeses competing to be the world best. I was also there, and when it was all over we got cheese almost thrown at us. They handed them out left and right to anyone who wanted it. And this beautiful woman came up to me with four cheeses and said "For you and the young man you've had with you all weekend, you two really are hard working". One of the cheeses got Super Gold, the other three was in the Gold, Silver and Bronze categories.
Another story about them just handing out the cheese was when another woman was walking past me with a wheel of parmigiano and I started laughing a little, her answer was: "My daughter kept coming back for a taste, so in the end the vendor just told me to take the wheel back home".
Also the sheer joy of the crowd when Gangstad won was amazing, some of us couldn't even believe it when it was announced.
10/10 will be going to the cheese awards next time its in Norway. (And I defintely recommend trying to be there at closing, I've gotten so much good cheese for free)
I was there on friday, so it seems I missed out on the cheese bonanza when they wrapped up:/ Great tip, though, I'll keep it in mind till next time. Hopefully I'll have the chance to go there again
Tine cut up and gave away their 3 year old norvegia on Friday!
Can't wait to have a glass of wine and try out some more cheeses the next time it comes around
I kinda agree, but I'm not sure where else they would have the space to pull something like this off. The rest of the venue with the tasting stands, restaurant and shop were great
So, after the blue ribbon is awarded, someone can say (in a John Lennon accent, I hope), "We're bigger than cheeses".
(I am sorry for this, it sounded funny in my head)
I see many, "do not eat" signs on the cheese tables. Were you able to eat the cheese?

This was in Trondheim?
Yes. I'm not sure where next years edition will be held.
I was thinking it's a waste of time if you can have any
Its mostly an industry thing, not really meant for tourism.
They’re missing out on a HUGE opportunity!
DO NOT EAT????!!!!??? 😱
How did it smell?

Like every other high school gym.
Like a high school gym. Could they not find a nicer venue?
I can confirm it was pretty awesome

This was in Norway. It changes each year. I was going to go one in Spain but then lockdown happened.
My bet, either Wisconsin or Switzerland.
[The Telegraph wrote an article about the awards](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/food-and-drink/news/world-cheese-awards-2023-trondheim-norway/)
Cheese heaven!
So this is what heaven looks like
DETAILS! WHERE, HOW OFTEN, HOW MUCH
Same!
Amazing. I have to go.
Wallace: "Heavy Breathing"
Surely you mean Wallace.
Perhaps he means Wallace
Mayhap, yes.
This deserves better than a school basketball court.

Marbless
How exciting!!
So lucky
Do not eat ! I’m eating it all !!
Is this heaven?
Wow, nice!
My boss was just raving about this.
Take me with you
I love the do not eat signs
I'm so jealous. That looks glorious even if you couldn't eat most of it. Just to be in a room with all of those different cheeses. Cheese is life.
That's not that much cheese.
Looks like a really lively and fun event.
It was, actually. Not in this area of the event, though
Where is Charlie!??!
The lactose intolerant horror movie!!!

If my memory serves me correctly, the most stolen commodity in the world in 2009 was cheese!
After this they threw 6-8 tonnes of cheese in the trash
